Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
First topic message reminder :
Basically depth for depth, though I did think we were fine at RB with Richardson, Hardesty and Ogbonnaya but Acho wouldn't have fit the new 3-4 scheme so can't really complain about the deal too much and maybe one of those back ups gets sent off in a trade somewhere during the draft.GSC wrote:Eagles traded Dion Lewis to Cleveland for Emmanuel Acho. Decent backup Lewis, just not as good as Brown.

I have read a few reports suggesting the Eagles are down to four possible 1st round picks - Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher, Geno Smith or Star Lotulelei.GSC wrote:Personally I'd love to bail out to 11 and grab Jarvis Jones

The Browns are being touted as a landing spot for Geno Smith and are also looking at trading Davone Bess from Miami for a mid-round pick.

Latest buzz is Cleveland is looking at jumping up to 3 for a pass rusher. Unlikely, but the buzz a year ago was Cleveland is interested in jumping up to beat Tampa to Richardson.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
Obviously I have no sources or anything but I doubt this is true, where as it made sense last year as the team with the most picks (think it was 13) then to give up some late round choices (4th, 5th 7th from memory) really didn't impact us much, this year we have just 7 picks and no second rounder it would cost us our 3rd and probably another pick just to move up. Sorry but if they make that decision I will be incredibly annoyed, there's a reason we're constantly picking in the top 10 picks and it's not because we're only one pass rusher away from making the Super Bowl. My thoughts would be by mentioning Jordan and Mingo they might be trying to get somebody to trade above them in the hopes of that trade helping an LT slip to 6 boosting the value of our pick and increasing the trade possibilities.GSC wrote:Latest buzz is Cleveland is looking at jumping up to 3 for a pass rusher. Also not sure about them spending a pick on Bess, would seem a waste considering they added Nelson.

Hmmm wonder whether that means they're also looking to trade up from 16 and get some picks back by trading 22? Still think they have to go OL at some point in the first 2 rounds, help their run game out with Jackson gone and give Bradford time in the pocket.Olly wrote:Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter

Boldin is imo because he performs when it matters most, he isn't a top ten receiver in the NFL in any way, but I'd still want him in crunch time over 90% of guys. I just hope he can bring that clutch nature to the 49ers. Agree about Wasington, between him and Johnson for 3rd best ILB in NFL

I agree on Boldin, Pitta, Polamalu but as there are 12 RBs in this top 100 then MJD should be there but then I thought it was a passing league and nobody cared about RBs anymore so maybe their shouldn't be 12 of them in the top 100.GSC wrote:Boldin, Pitta, MJD, Polamalu arent top 100.

Depends what you are looking for I suppose. If you are purely basing your opinion on stats then I'd agree that he isn't top 100. But if you are basing on value to a team and making plays when it matters, he has to be top 100. Ravens wouldn't have won the SB without him coming up at key times and I think stats go out the window when you have a guy like that, So Ravens win SB and he is leader/key piece = top 100 for 2012 season easily to me. But of course it is debatable whether this list is really actually based on only 2012. But if it is Boldin should be a lock

I've watched him play. Please don't bring out the old cliches about how hes a great leader, and clutch, and key moments and all that jazz.
The 2012 postseason is the only time hes looked like vintage Boldin since he arrived in Baltimore. Theres a reason Baltimore were happy to give him away to a SB contender, hes a good WR, and a good person, but he isn't a top 100 player.

I'm under the impression that the 2012 season is the only basis for this list. You just said yourself 'The 2012 postseason is the only time hes looked like vintage Boldin since he arrived in Baltimore'. As far as I'm concerned coming alive in post season, looking like old Boldin and helping your team win a SB is absolutely enough to get you on top 100. Also if you watch him play enough, you'll know that he is one of the best blocking wr's in league and that regardless of stats at times, he was a very important player. I'm not a stats man so maybe I'm of a different opinion but I'd much rather have a guy who came good when it mattered most on biggest stages in top 100 than a receiver on a losing team who piled up stats when it didn't matter. Being clutch and coming up trumps isn't cliche, its the sign that you are a good player. How many guys had great regular seasons only to be invisible when it matters. As for being happy to give him away, may just be me but Ravens lost a lot of guys and the GM in particular said it hurt to lose Boldin. And they lost tons of good players because they were in salary cap hell. Boldin had to go because he wouldn't take pay cut (and rightly so), not because he wasn't wanted.

not really, he basically said he'd retire if Ravens screwed him but he then said he'd only go to a contender as he is getting on a bit and is in win now mode. The 49ers needed help due to injuries and there were no other contenders I can think of that needed help at WR that had plenty of cap space, maybe the Pats but the draft showed they wanted to get younger there. So a 6th was something better than a release

Don't really get why it lasted this long.
Appreciate the sentiment behind trying to trade him, but come on. The only other team that wanted him last year flat out said no. Cut the distraction.
