Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
First topic message reminder :
Basically depth for depth, though I did think we were fine at RB with Richardson, Hardesty and Ogbonnaya but Acho wouldn't have fit the new 3-4 scheme so can't really complain about the deal too much and maybe one of those back ups gets sent off in a trade somewhere during the draft.GSC wrote:Eagles traded Dion Lewis to Cleveland for Emmanuel Acho. Decent backup Lewis, just not as good as Brown.

Jets have given the Bucs permission to give Revis a medical. Farewell, my friend. It's been good.

So does that mean the Jets will be looking at Dee Milliner?
Maybe Rex Ryan will trade both 1st round picks and Tebow to the Jaguars and get Geno Smith?

Not point in getting geno for the jets imho, better quarterbacks next year and they'll likely be picking high.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
I doubt the Jets take a QB in the first. Ryans likely to be canned next year, so why force a QB on their new HC.
Milliner could be an option but theyd have to move up from 9.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
The idea that we're drafting under the assumption that Rex only has 1 year left is absurd. Idzik will do what he thinks is bet for the franchise regardless of coach. I also think Rex will still have a job next year but that's for another day.
I'd like to see us get OLB with #9 and trade back #13 to pick up Jonathan Cyprien/DeAndre Hopkins.

The point is, Idzik has a mulligan year, and he knows it. If the team is carp, Rex gets canned and he can pick his own HC. If by some miracle the Jets aren't a dumpster fire, then great.

I don't think Idzik is concerned with the HC to be honest. He's trying to build a deep roster with the best possible players and nothing else matters. Wy would Rex's situation stop him drafting a certain player? It's madness.

I don't think there's any chance of Jets taking Milliner even if he did fall to 9. The Jets were 2nd in pass defense last season without Revis, they still have good corners.

I somewhat agree. We should draft a CB because there is a lot of depth in this class, but we don't need to get one in the first 2 rounds IMO. We have a lot of needs elsewhere. Antonio Cromartie is a Pro Bowler and hopefully someone can come in and compete with Kyle Wilson for CB2.

Trade official: Darrelle Revis passed physical. Bucs send 1st in 2013 and conditional 4th in 2014 that could be 3rd to Jets. More on ESPNews

Darrelle Revis received a 6-yr deal from the Bucs that makes him highest paid DB in NFL history but includes NO guaranteed money. None.
I'm thinking the Bucs might have got a very good deal out of this...

Pressure is on now for the Buccaneers to deliver.
They have picked up Revis, Carl Nicks, Eric Wright, Vincent Jackson and Dashon Goldson in last two off-seasons plus Mark Barron, Doug Martin, Lavonte David is last year's draft.

What a deal. After all the talk of a first, third and fifth they only end up with a first and a fourth next season. Revis is better than anyone we could have taken at 13.

Pedantic, I know, but it's a conditional 4th that could become a 3rd if Revis remains a Buc on the 3rd day of 2014 league year. Virtually guaranteed.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread Part 3
Originally when I read it was a 1st, 2nd and later pick and maybe something next year I laughed, then a 1st and what is very likely a 3rd next year it's a pretty good deal and while the contract is expensive no guaranteed money means obviously if they need to get rid they can with no salary cap impact and they can always threaten to cut him to get him to renegotiate if his play deteriorates at any point.

Remember that Revis was selected at 14th overall, he wasn't even the consensus number 1 cornerback in the draft. You never know who could be found at 13.

Assuming there's a trade down then Cyprien would be my favourite choice, without the trade probably Jordan/Mingo.

#9 - Dion Jordan/Ezekiel Ansah/Jarvis Jones (NOT MINGO).
#13 - Trade down for DeAndre Hopkins/Jonathan Cyprien/Tyler Eifert.
