See, I'd say United are a final ball away from a goal, whereas Liverpool are generally just defending. And if Giggs had been up to his usual standards, United would have had those openings.

Yeah even though Utd have been pants, they've still got into some good areas, just need to improve the final ball as Chris says.
Bar a few free kicks, Liverpool haven't really threatened. Aspas has been non-existant, need get Coutinho down the middle, so wasted out wide

I can't see any utd midfielders capable enough to inspire the team with the exception of giggs, but by his high standerds has been poor and can't see anything but a Liverpool win now by 2 or 3. Liverpool are closing down but utd defense is poor in possession , and y does cleverly want the a foot away from defenders where he can do nothing with it, but when utd running forwards he don't get in the advanced space, massively over rated.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
I think that was a really good half for Liverpool, I think with such an early goal it was inevitable that United would start to control the game to look for the equaliser but I think Liverpool defence has handled everything pretty well, Agger has looked a rock and it's a shame this game wasn't a a week or so earlier because I think Skrtel's performance may have changed Rodgers mind about replacing him.
Ryan Giggs has been the worst player on the pitch for me, really poor, his final ball has been really poor and he hasn't offered anything defensively. Summed it when Coutinho got the better of him so he just hacked him down.
Manchester United will be glad for half time I'd have thought, tempers were flaring and somebody could have easily been sent off. Van Persie showing that he perhaps hasn't matured as much from his early angry days as much as people think, Cleverley was also very stupid, no need to give away that foul to try and get "revenge".
Manchester United need to get the ball out of defence a lot quicker because Aspas, Sturridge, Coutinho and Henderson love chasing down every ball and the best chances have come from pressuring the defence. Manchester United haven't really created much.
Need to keep concentration early on from a Liverpool perspective, can't afford to concede. Ideally would love another goal to make it that bit more comfortable, hoping to see Sterling unleashed today, looked sharp and fast against Notts County.

Aspas has been poor, giving away silly fouls and is not strong enough against the Utd defence. Bring Ibe or Sterling on for him. That can allow Coutinho to go down the middle where he is shines.
This match won't finish with 11 players for each team, someone is gonna get sent off.

I disagree, Liverpool have had more clear-cut chances than Manchester United, United have had more possession but haven't done very much with it, think they've only had 1 or 2 shots, and both have been weak.Olly wrote:Yeah even though Utd have been pants, they've still got into some good areas, just need to improve the final ball as Chris says.

Aspas has been really good I thought, not likely to get much attacking-wise from a game like this but he's closing down really well and putting a lot of pressure on the defence. Would like to see him get more shots on goal, but it's early days and this performance has been promising.
No point putting Coutinho in the crowded central area for me, he's best when he starts wide and cuts in through the centre. I feel when he plays centrally he's crowded out of the game. He's best with space to work in, and I think it works with him coming in off of the left, opens space up for Enrique and pulls people out of position.

RVP was the one that took him down, Giggs actually did a really decent tackle to get the ball but the ref had already blown.Ryan Giggs has been the worst player on the pitch for me, really poor, his final ball has been really poor and he hasn't offered anything defensively. Apart from that though Coutinho has tore Giggs to shreds. Ol Yella needs to go out back I think now.

Truly pains me to see this.. Zaha only wants to play football.. The whole PL system is flawed.. He is without a doubt a potential star and should at the least be starting for a mid level PL team week in week out!Duty281 wrote:Not even on the bench would you believe!Olly wrote:Might be worth chucking Zaha on for Young

I think he was lucky Van Persie had already brought him down in my opinion, I think he wasn't that bothered about the ball, he'd just been made a mug out of and it was a silly, rash tackle. Think he'd have gotten a yellow card had the whistle not already been blown.Hero wrote:RVP was the one that took him down, Giggs actually did a really decent tackle to get the ball but the ref had already blown.Ryan Giggs has been the worst player on the pitch for me, really poor, his final ball has been really poor and he hasn't offered anything defensively. The problem with Giggs is I can only assume he's been selected on the right because he offers more defensively than the likes of Zaha, but he's just not helping out the right back and is stunted United offensively.

So, you kind of agree with the point? United need the final ball.Crimey wrote:I disagree, Liverpool have had more clear-cut chances than Manchester United, United have had more possession but haven't done very much with it, think they've only had 1 or 2 shots, and both have been weak.Olly wrote:Yeah even though Utd have been pants, they've still got into some good areas, just need to improve the final ball as Chris says.

Dont think Liverpool have offered much attacking wise. Id move Coutinho central because United have wobbled there, and if its down to picking them off then its limited chances. You'd want Coutinho in there if you got one pass to kill a move rather than Aspas.

Don't think United will win this. Liverpool (who still haven't conceded this season in the league) are dominating the midfield, and United are being restricted to lone-range efforts.

It could have any of Carrick/Cleverley/Giggs/Young in fairness. A flat midfield four is really looking dated nowadays.

G. Nevile: 'Utd have been too slow in their build up allowing Liverpool to regain their shape'
Well if you play a midfield of a 40 year old, a half crab, a person masquerading as a footballer and Ashley 'I was good for half a season for Villa 5 years ago' Young then that's what happens.

United have been much the better side in this half, but there's absolutely no creativity to forge a clear-cut chance. They're missing Wayne Rooney.
