I have Barkley as well. Hoping he doesn't play so that Robbie Brady and his 11 points can come in
Regardless of that, I think 7 points will put me top, so I just have to hope for a 0-0

I don't see why you're so offended Steffan. It is the English Premier League. It should be for English teams. Wales has a league system in which I believe Welsh teams should compete.Steffan wrote:Lumbering Jack says its a disgrace the Welsh clubs are in the league though nevermind the Scottish ones and says all the years of membership dont mean anything and that the FA needs to move on and kick the Welsh clubs outcompelling and rich wrote:think you have mentioned the key there, the welsh clubs have been in the system for all that time. the two glasgow clubs simply want to jump in now to get the cash from the prem. i have no problem with the welsh clubs being in, i mean what really is the difference between chester and wrexham being in the league?Breadvan wrote:Domestic final? That was pretty bad defending for the second.
We are in trouble this season. Should have enough to stay up but bottom 5 wouldn't shock me at all.

I don't understand what's happened though. We haven't strengthened because Ashley is a tight fisted moron but Pardew had us playing some lovely free flowing stuff. Now we can barely string a couple of passes together. Awful.Breadvan wrote:I think times running out for pardew. He's always been a one season wonder at all his clubs. Pathetic tonight. Cabaye`s goal means nothing. Embarrassing defence, we've got the worst two full backs in the EPL. Just woeful. Kinnear is a ****.
Avoid relegation & its a good season as far as I'm concerned. As for Everton, were just making them look class, just like we made City look quality on the first weekend & then they lost to Cardiff.

Pardew should be sacked. Doing a rubbish job, the only way i can see them is slipping down and down. They need a young fresh manager IMO.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Ross Barkley could fill that troublesome third centre midfield spot for our fantastic country, alongside Gerrard and Wilshere, if he can keep this early-season form up. He reminds me of a young Wayne Rooney in some aspects.
As for Everton, if they can keep this up, they may well fancy their chances of a top 4 spot if all around them keep failing. To be honest, as far as the PL goes, I think any of 7 teams can win it right now, and that includes Everton.
And Newcastle? A world way from just a couple of seasons ago when they were so close to a top 4 spot. They remind me of Everton in some ways, during the early Moyes years - a yo yo club. Short-term, Pardew needs to pull something out of the fire otherwise relegation is a very real possibility.

Gerrard said Wilshere will get 100 caps. I think Barkley is going to beat him to that milestone. He has everything you need to be successful at the highest level - a move to Arsenal alongside Wilshere would cement his England place for years to come. Arsenal should go in in January with a £30m offer.

I'm sorry C & R but that's nonsense.
There has never been an instigated effort from the Old Firm end (Celtic anyway) to be squeezed into the Premier League, Celtic have indeed been open to the possibility but never have they tried to make the move, this was born in the boardroom meetings within the Premiership chairman allegedly steered from SKY, all a club like Celtic can do is show appreciation that they've even been considered as an option but at no time have Celtic (or Rangers before their demise) been pushing any such move, they'd never have that kind of influence.
As for Welsh clubs, they're as much apart of the fabric of the league set up as any other 92 League clubs and they're wholly deaerving of their spots

Really like the look of Everton nowadays, I see home games for them as bankers now, well outside of the usual suspects, I expect them to be challenging for top 6th again, once Martinez can fully implement his style I'm sure Evertons football players will get even better

You seem very proud of Wales yet you fail to understand that cardiff and Swansea being in the English league is a good thing for English football and a bad thing for Welsh football. The Welsh league will always be non-existent if it's two biggest teams (in terms of support) are in the english league. The english league is the one who will benefit from all of the fees and sponsorship etc whilst the Welsh league gains nothing.Steffan wrote:Glad someone speaks sense on hereKay Fabe wrote:As for Welsh clubs, they're as much apart of the fabric of the league set up as any other 92 League clubs and they're wholly deaerving of their spots

The SPL right now is a top 10 European league but if you take out the two biggest teams in rangers and celtic the scottish league would be as rubbish as the welsh league.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Horrifying performance last night, embarrassing. The second half comeback meant nothing as far as I'm concerned, Pardew claiming there were 'positives' is just ridiculous. The reason we got back in the game was because of a wonder goal & Everton basically losing their concentration & intensity levels, thinking the job is done. Same thing happened with City against United when they were 4-0 up.
Defensively, we are a joke. Everyone knows our full backs are woeful. If only they spent as much time on the training pitch, as they do on their **** hairdo's, then we might be able to keep some clean sheets. Coloccini's head's gone, wants out & Yanga M'Poopie is just league two standard, he don't know what's hit him. You know you've got problems, when you are having to be rescued out at the back by bringing on Mike Williamson
Terrible night. Hope we never play Monday Night Football again this season on Sky. As for Pardew, don't see the point in sacking him. The squad is just ****, no investment this summer & it's coming back to haunt us.....again. #dejavu

I don't know what's happened, it's not too far from the side that finished top 6 two years ago. I feel genuinely sorry for the Toon Army, this isn't what we like seeing. I remember the glory days of Shearer, Ferdinand, Beardsley, Phillipe Albert, David Ginola, Rob Lee, Faustino, John Beresford...where the hell did the club's pride go?
Won't be long before Mike Ashley starts getting hounded.

The SPL right now is a top 10 European league but if you take out the two biggest teams in rangers and celtic the scottish league would be as rubbish as the welsh league.
Firstly and im not being a smartarse here is there is no SPL anymore, yet if there was Rangers wouldn't be in it anyway after thwy went to the wall last year and reformed in the old 3rd Division so the League as you note doesn't have Rangers in it and wont for another 2 years at the very least.
Secondly, while I have no doubt a Scottish League without both the Old Firm severely hampers sponsorship, TV money and income from visiting fans...however if you look at the Scottish League without the Old Firm you have Hearts who regularly get 15k+ and Aberdeen who average around 12k+ and have already sold out their 20k+ stadium alrwad this year, Hibs hover around the 10/11k mark but as history shows they can get in excess if 14k when the team are playing well
Both Dundee Utd and Dundee are capable of attracting 10k+ to games, you can add 5k on top of that when they play each other, and clubs like Motherwell, Partick Thistle and Kilmarnock (when they're not trying to smoke the chairman out) can all get in excess of 5k to games regularly.
I'm unsure what like Welsh Football is like but im pretty sure clubs in the Welsh Leagues wouldn't boast those sort of figures for games so I think comparing an Old Firm-less Scotland to a Cardiff/Swansea-less Wales is inaccurate.
In terms of size id compare Cardiff and Swansea to Hibs/Hearts/Aberdeen although given they're in a more progressive environment they have with excellent management fulfilled their potential while the environment their Scottish counterparts are in have stiffled them.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Yanga was supposed to be the star defender from Montpellier that won them the French league two years ago. Debuchy, how on earth is he or was he no.1 french international right back. No defensive positional sense, weak, ponderous & lethargic. His heart does not look like it's in it, especially his performance in & around the time when his best friend Cabaye was nearing to leave for Arsenal. Sissoko, blew me away first two games against Chelsea (two goals) & Villa last year. Looked like our version of Yaya Toure.........absolutely nothing since. Gouffran.......the less said the better. Where's Haidara? If this lad can't displace Santon at left back, then he must be another Amalfitano no-show. As for Santon, quite frankly appalling at left full back. He's right-footed & can't defend, yet Pardew still plays him in that position. Puzzling. I actually like Marveaux & tried to give him time & opportunity but he just disappoints me everytime. Anita offers very little, he's okay at passing five yards to the left or to the right but other than that, he's anonymous. Tiote has lost an incredible amount to his game over 18 months. Not the same player at all. We could of sold him for £18m two years ago as the tough tackling enforcer. He's more of the 'gone missing ivorian' nowadays. Cisse, 1 goal since march. Says it all. Coloccini wants to go home.
Not a pretty situation currently

Not sure even John can answer that - lazy coaching? Poor investment? Players not trying hard enough? Fans not vocal enough at games? Injuries? Or all of the above?
If you bought Newcastle tomorrow, you'd have to spend £40m in January on players, but by God, could you have a good side there.
