Khan v Mayweather - 5th May 2014 - EDIT: THIS FIGHT IS ON
First topic message reminder :
2014-05-03 Floyd Mayweather Jr 45(26)-0-0
MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA 12
WBC welterweight title
bout subject to change & commission approval
I wonder where Boxrec get their info? They do call some fights that don't get made Anyone think this one is a goer.
I have a feeling Khan is next for Money May. I thought the fight might have been in the UK but I don't know what the BBBofC rules are on injecting pain killers. Floyd talking about fighting in the UK may just have been to stir up interest and gauge the reaction.
Anyway, Khan is often suggested as being the man with the foot speed and fast hands to trouble Mayweather. Can Virgil Hunter be the man to finally put together a plan that Khan is able to understand and stick to?
The first few rounds could be interesting.

May I point out that Chris has written a superb article on the ten best heavyweight fights you must see...
With fights that any real Boxing fans should have heard about or be interested in seeing and talking about..........
Perhaps the fact you guys haven't opined on the article would suggest you have ulterior motives for posting on here..
Hope not..........
But this daily squabble is only entertaining you two........and in Azania's case he actually does have something to offer which is more to the pity..

What's going on over there? The legislation going through is almost fascist from what I am reading.
Sounds like they are putting the poor in the olive press again. It will take a decade to undo their damage. By that time they will have made millions.

TRUSS will have his own troubles... With the ridiculous FATCA legislation he'll probably be giving up his US passport, if he hasn't done so already. Lots of 'proud' yanks are doing the same.Strongback wrote:What's going on over there? The legislation going through is almost fascist from what I am reading.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:

Re: Khan v Mayweather - 5th May 2014 - EDIT: THIS FIGHT IS ON
I agree that Khan probably offers the bigger edge in excitement than Garcia. I also agree that he gets destroyed and he doesn't deserve the fight. It's a poor opponent for Mayweather. But, he seems to be running out of challenges these day. Maybe he takes an easy one here and a harder one next (Martinez or Golovkin? - haha no chance).
Ah well at least we''l get to see 4 episodes of all access with floyd throwing his money around.......and then being cliche nice once he dominates the fight. Lets take bets on how many times he says 'the sport of boxing' during the build up.
ps for the record Khan's team are denying that this fight is on - at least thats what i heard:

Re: Khan v Mayweather - 5th May 2014 - EDIT: THIS FIGHT IS ON
It is being reported out of Britain that Floyd Mayweather will be fighting Amir Khan on May 3rd in Las Vegas.
It's looking more and more like the heavy speculation regarding Floyd Mayweather's next opponent has been correct. Ever since Mayweather's decision win over Canelo Alvarez on September 14, fans and media have pondered about who would be "Money's" dance partner this coming May. The top guess has been British junior welterweight contender Amir Khan and all signs are pointing to it becoming a reality.
Khan has seemingly been close to scoring a fight with Mayweather a few times in the past but has always been tripped up just when it appeared he may break through. Knowing that a potential Mayweather fight was out there, Khan took no chances this time and backed out of a proposed bout with Devon Alexander that was to happen in December. Now, according to a report from the Daily Mail by Jeff Powell in Britain, he may have finally played his cards right.
The Daily Mail claims that the official announcement will be made in only a few days with Khan set to take home "no less than $6m and is likely to climb to at least double that from pay-TV sales on both sides of the Atlantic". The article also confirms from "reliable sources in America" that the fight will not be taking place at the Wembley Arena. Like all of Mayweather's recent fights, Las Vegas would be the destination.
This is no surprise, ladies and gentlemen. With all of Top Rank's boxers unable to tango with Golden Boy's, the pool of challengers for the best boxer alive is dwindling. If indeed the Daily Mail's sources are correct and this fight is a reality, this could be the biggest fight of 2014 simply because every one of Mayweather's fights is a huge deal nowadays.
This all being said, it's difficult to gauge exactly how much of this should be taken with a grain of salt. This would be awfully early for an announcement of a fight that will not take place until May. Perhaps the promoters want to get a leg up on the promotion due to this being more of an international fight that most. Or possibly this article is a bit hasty in declaring the fight a done deal.
But, at this stage, it's looking more and more like Floyd Mayweather - Amir Khan will be the first mega event of 2014.

Sky were reporting today that the Khan team have not denied or acknowledged the Mayweather rumours, similarly Golden Boy say they will not comment on speculation. Khan’s people insist the Alexander bout is still on and they are focusing exclusively on that and apparently only the venue is still to be decided.

Yeh, not sure what the bit 'EDIT' is about, SSN news had Khan confirming he's not pulling out of the Devon fight. Let's face it, he needs that fight. Currently he has no WW CV to speak of, a bunch of recent losses on his record and no belt. Beats Alexander and that's all turned on its head - which could mean a much better pay day for him.

Yeah he is a credit to the sport.
Posting pics of his child-hood to z-list models. Yeah real credit. I wonder who he had to sleep with to get this deal through.

Plenty of folk on here don't care for Khan, inevitable Az will love him. Go back x amount of months folk were praising the Klitschko's as nice guys, az claimed they made Don King look like Jesus, and so it goes.
Not sure why anyone still bites to the contrarian wumming. (and before anyone else points it out I do see the irony inherent in this post.)

Jeff Powell is saying it's on. It was widely reported last week the Alexander fight is off no matter whatKhan is saying to the camera. There hasn't been a venue chosen.TopHat24/7 wrote:Yeh, not sure what the bit 'EDIT' is about, SSN news had Khan confirming he's not pulling out of the Devon fight. Let's face it, he needs that fight. Analogous to a footballer kissing their badge. Would tend to agree Scott, too much smoke for there not to be a fire. Only question is if Khan still risks the Alexander fight. From a boosting his credentials and thus PPV perspective it makes sense. Also helps him avoid too much inactivity, however risky fight and a loss should really scupper the Floyd fight so big gamble to take.Scottrf wrote:Analogous to a footballer kissing their badge. If getting dropped by a fat LW in his only WW venture and only edging to a decision plus 2 losses in previous fights isn't enough to scupper a Floyd fight then I doubt losing to Devon will.Rowley wrote:Would tend to agree Scott, too much smoke for there not to be a fire. Khan has done nothing to earn or deserve the PBF fight. But he brings excitement and a half decent following/cash (plus the chance for Floyd to improve his paltry ko rate) - those factors won't change if Devon beats him (which I don't think he will anyway).

I agree it seems to be as good as on.
Another awful piece of matchmaking , 2 wins in the last 4 against lightweights and you automatically get a shot at the premier welterweight fighter. It's a non event for me, Khan has nothing to trouble Floyd and will be car crash tv.
Well cherry picked if true, no doubt after he's cleaned Khans clock we'll have another dozen article proclaiming Floyds the greatest ever.
Cheers Rodders

Re: Khan v Mayweather - 5th May 2014 - EDIT: THIS FIGHT IS ON
I find Khan an arrogant person.......Then again in fairness I've always found Pakistani people to be big headed and fond of telling you about what they possess. I think it's part of their culture they do tend to measure people in terms of their wealth and standing...So it's probably not his fault...We certainly know that everytime he loses it's someone elses...
One of my next door neighbours is from that part of the World and I find his bragging and attitude nauseating......whenever I'm not quick enough to avoid him.......
Certainly the class system is to be deplauded in South Asia..........
I will say though that "I've always found......" is different than saying they are all like that...
Maybe I have just been unlucky in the circles I've moved in.......
I do prefer Froch to Khan.........But not by a great deal and prefer both to David Haye who for me lacks class completely..
Will say though that I treat people as I find them and have no problem with people of any race as long as they are respectful to me as I am to them........Whilst I've always found pakistani people to be braggarts there are worse vices........

Plenty of disclaimers there Truss. I make you right though.
And without a doubt the worst thing about all of this is the amount we're going to have Khan forced upon us and the drivel both he and his 'team' will be spewing our way in the coming months. Massive mismatch and all but pointless with it being at the MGM.

Really......I thought Hatton fought a tough smart fight against Floyd.........Basically spoiled and stopped Mayweather working however illegally at times........
I had it level after six...........Then because it is so hard to spoil for so long (Williams-Toney anybody??) He got tired and Mayweather found space......
Hatton fought the only way he could to win and came up short..........
He left everything in the ring also.........You are being over critical my friend.

The main difference will be that Hatton was fighting to win, and believed he could. Khan is showing up for the cameras and the money, nothing else.

No more than Guerrero. You could just tell, despite the act, that he knew deep down he didn't stand a chance. Khan will need Floyd's hands to give again to avoid being sparked and he knows it.
If, by some incredible amount of delusion, Khan thinks he can win then that'll last all of three minutes come the fight.

For all his faults Khan never stops trying, he's got the heart of a lion.

Lions are cowards. They pick on the vulnerable and run away from hippo's and rhino's.

Whether it's on or off, khan needs a win against Alexander to make this fight a promotional success. He can't sit on his fists until may, with his previous outing being so unimpressive.
It's was too early to say this fight is confirmed, regardless of what the daily mail report.

"That's one reason why gays shouldn't be allowed into the army. Because if we're in battle, is he going to be looking at the enemy, or is he going to be looking at me and going "Ooh. He looks tasty in his uniform". And I'm not homophobic, all right? Come round, look at my CDs. You'll see Queen, George Michael, Pet Shop Boys. They're all bummers."Mind the windows Tino. wrote:Nah, that is when he is talking about gay people.Scottrf wrote:"I'm not racist, look at my CD collection."?

Re: Khan v Mayweather - 5th May 2014 - EDIT: THIS FIGHT IS ON
This is him not trying. This is Khan not building himself back up, not taking the route he should but going straight to the top for an easy pay day. Now, you can say that you can't blame him which is fair enough but realistically this is the easiest route he could have taken. He's cashing his chips.Hammersmith harrier wrote:For all his faults Khan never stops trying, he's got the heart of a lion.
