The Culture Cup round 6
First topic message reminder :
I'm not really a London person. Occasionally Putney or Clapham to see mates or Lords for the cricket.
If Georgian food is anything like Estonian fayre I may give it a miss.
Galted wrote:seanmichaels wrote:Galted wrote:Decided to treat myself to a 3-piece variety meal but the Wrap-It-Up is between work & the KFC so you can probably imagine what happened.
Your Hi-Techs started to squeek?
Probably but I was too hungry to notice. Almost broke into a run as I approached the Wrap-It-Up.
Have you ever been to Tamada by the way? Georgian restaurant off Abbey Road. Went there for my birthday and found no reason to complain.

Lonely single chap watches cartoons all evening. Sounds about right.
I bet he is smeared in peanut butter, only wearing a pair of thermal socks and a deerstalker.

Do northerners still eat those sandwich spreads? Can't remember the name but there was beef, chicken and a particularly galling fish one.

I don't Sean, do still have a soft spot for a crisps sandwich though. Not sure that is a northern thing though, think it is just a refusal to grow up thing.

Crisp sarnies are truly awesome. Don't think it is a northern thing though.
Corned beef is my favourite sandwich filler.

I had a tin of Ravioli and a crisp sandwich for my dinner on Monday night. Mrs Superfly was out so I made hay while the sun was shining.

I used to squash up doritos between two slices of bread with tomato pasta sauce and cheddar or mozzarella and put it under the grill. Was a pretty decent after-pub option if the queue in the kebab shob was too long or violent or I'd lost the ability to speak.

The best sandwich I ever had was in Switzerland. It was in a bread like ciabatta (but not), with a cheese, ham, avocado and gherkin filling. Dijon mustard as well. Bloody marvellous.

That would have been nicer if you had substituted the ham for corned beef, removed the cheese and avocado and put it in a bap. Perfect then.

Missus's sister lived and worked in Lausanne so we spent a Christmas/New Year there along with a few shorter trips. Stunningly beautiful place, lovely trains, Freddie Mercury statue...... Couldn't get to grips with the skiing but loved going up the mountains and tucking into the vin chaud.

His recording studios were in Montreaux - not sure whether this was when he became ill. He apparently loved the place and the people loved him. Got a photo with me and the statue but this one will have to do:

And the Itai's. I think it is quite regionalised though in terms of where most French Germans etc live. Went to a German Bier Kellar or something like that. You could (I did) get 2 litre jugs of their (white) lager. Tasted like sheeeet but brilliant for not having to get up and go to the bar every 10 mins.

Not me, seany. Can't remember the name of the guy - he only posted about twice on the old 606 site but those two posts were just about the funniest things I've ever read. Somebody posted links to them on here not that long ago and the one about salt and shake crisps had me laughing at my desk with tears streaming down my face.

No, it was called River Monsters. Never heard of the chap before but his rod snapped mid-battle and he had to land this enormous ray by hand. Lovely stuff.

That's what I meant. Tall 50ish guy with a greying barnet. saw that episode.
After i'd spent time in Aus I became obsessed with Rex Hunt's fishing http://www.rexhunt.com.au/. It used to air between 9-11am on sunday mornings. My ex used to go mental when she came downstairs to find me watching it with a few tinnies on the go. It was all part of recreating the atmosphere but she just didn't understand.

bumped into our 90 year old neighbour who lives alone. she hadn't been well so we invited her for sunday lunch - ended up delivering it to her on a hot plate as she was well wrapped up in front of the tv and settled for day.

Never mind all that cr@p, someone has an uneaten cream egg in their drawer.
No ashamed to admit that, having read that thread, I decided to give it a go and make the Pepperami/Monster Munch sheesh kebab. Very frustrating that the Monster Munch kept breaking as you slid them along the Pepparami but persist and you'll discover a delicious snack awaits...although the looks of confusion/utter disgust from my wife spoiled my enjoyment somewhat. There was a guy on the boxing forum who used to do something extraordinary with a pepperami and monster munch.
