The Culture Cup round 6
First topic message reminder :
Happily, the first Spice Girls Single not to go to Number 1 was Stop, it was kept off top spot by Run DMC vs Jason Nevins - It's Like That.
seanmichaels wrote:Rowley wrote:seanmichaels wrote:Rowley wrote:JuliusHMarx wrote:I think I'll upset Jeff now and say that Blackberry Way is a better song than Waterloo Sunset.
Why would the fact you're a moron upset me?
As an aside though another Move song, Flowers in the Rain was the first song ever played on Radio One.
That could and should have been posted on me remarkably unpopular Music anecdotes thread....
Sean, if the thread had been called useless music trivia it almost certainly would have been. I have any number of such facts I could amaze you good people with.
Hit me.

Did Rick tell you he bought a Louis Vetton 'holdall' at the weekend? Great for keeping his things in a safe place apparently.

Impressed by the correct use of '(sic)'. I have, of course, assumed you are referring to the incorrect spelling on the bag itself, and I would have preferred it in italics.

ps mostly directing this at Galted and Rick as whilst they are clearly geeks, they are not miserable old beards like the rest of you.
Don't bother with an app, it's going to be f*****g and p1ss down with rain all day.

The use of big words does not impress me when used solely to impress, if just dropped into conversation casually it is far more impressive. Hence why Tina's soporific had far greater impact than any more recent efforts.

Now, now Julius, there is no need to be truculent about this. I appreciate becoming somewhat bellicose is a consequence of your advancing years but a return to your more mirthful demeanour would be much appreciated.

Agreed. I was worried about the predilection by certain posters to engage in the manifestation of prolix exposition through a buzzword disposition form of communication notwithstanding the availability of more comprehensible, punctiliously applicable, diminutive alternatives.

Wise decision Rick, we discussed music on only the last page, not sure combining both music and culture on this thread can end at all well.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
Agreed Jeff, someone will only manage to start a discussion on a "round 6" and the thread would implode.
Which would be a shame, because i never would have thought that the music cup round 6 (specifically round 6 of course) would be one of the longest running threads around here...

Like Grashoppers Super? Or Jiminy Cricket?
I could probably research a round 6 in boxing, on the boxing board, if I coulld spend more than 5 mins on there without seeing a thread dissipate into a squabble.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
I watched a great documentary last night. Some lab in Brazil is trying to harness the venom from Brazilian wandering spiders (the most venomous spider in the world) to cure erectile dysfunction. Apparently, one of the side effects from a wandering spider bite is a condition called 'priapism' which is when you get a painful erection that won't return to a flaccid state within 4 hours.
Sounds hilarious but not according to the people who suffer from it. It is cripplingly painful apparently.
Anyway, these clever scientists are farming the wandering spiders and studying their venom to see if they can chemically alter it to help erectile dysfunction.
Whilst I was watching it, I instantly thought of somemembers posters on here that have taken the p*ss out of the arthropod world and I wondered if they still would given how these little critters may be able to help.

Don't like spiders especially ones like that. Funnily enough its face looks like a slightly swollen and chafed ball sack.

They are beasts, super. They rear up on their back legs when threatened. Basically giving it the big'un, safe in the knowledge that they are f*cking double hard b*stards.
Make sure you check your banana's next time you go to Tescos.

Worked in Tesco part-time when I was at University. Used to hate when I got made to put the bananas out as had heard stories about people finding things like these spiders in the crates. Never saw any, but found a few giant cockroaches. I wasn't wearing hi-tecs as they're not regulation wear for Tesco employees, but the cockroaches squished soon enough under my 8 hole doc martens.
