It's a hard call, but I'd prefer City winning the league over Liverpool.
That Aguerro goal was soon forgotten when we romped to the title the next year, always felt like it was coming anyway.

The thing with transfer rumours is that there is an element of truth to almost all of them, any one club will be scouting hundreds of players at any one time, it's just that some scouts are more recognisable than others.

Man City will have a fairly public interest in Luke Shaw just to drive his price up knowing that their rivals Man United want to sign him, it's all a big poker game really.

Robin Van Persie was an ever present last year in the Premier League, he has only played 18 games this year. That has been a big miss for United.Ent wrote:People exaggerate how much rebuilding needs done. Moyes is making it look worse than it is.
On current form only de gea looks like a player worth retaining.
Moyes should be getting more from a side that won the championship last year and pushed Real Madrid very hard in the cl.
There is no way that squad should be finishing 7th.
I also think many of the players in the squad have known they are on the way out of the club and have played like that this year. Ed Woodward shown his incompetence in the transfer window and failed to land any of Moyes' targets other than panic buying Fellani.
I fell United should back Moyes, sack Woodward and bring in a capable CEO like David Gill or David Dein who can actual get transfers done. Fabregas was close as was Baines while Bale and Ronaldo could have been possible. That would have transformed the United team this season.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
I am pretty sure Man United made a genuine bid for Gareth Bale and that is was higher than what Real Madrid paid (possibly £100m). The problem was United/ Ed Woodward don't it far too late in the window. Real and Spurs had already agree the deal. Had United bid for Bale in June/ July they may have had a chance.Olly wrote:Hammersmith harrier wrote:Man City will have a fairly public interest in Luke Shaw just to drive his price up knowing that their rivals Man United want to sign him, it's all a big poker game really.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
The Monday Night Club (or whatever its called) was very interesting on Moyes. Why give a man a six year contract with a remit to rebuild a side long term to sack him after 9-10 months? Why let Gill leave straight away? Also doing a lot to remind people of the fantastic work he did as a coach at Everton - which included making players better and making very good transfers. Suggesting there are players there who have been happy to undermine the manager, as well as players who have underperformed and should be ashamed of the result of their season.
Moyes may have fallen for this long term project being real. Whereas the long term project was based around short term goals.

He is stupid if he thought he had years to get the team challenging for trophies. We've won 5/7 pls including the last one.
Had he come fourth we wouldn't be having this conversation, he only had himself to blame.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
There was a long term goal certainly that Moyes was aiming at but within that there were targets and minimum achievements along the way and it's not being unrealistic that a team that sold none of a title winning side and brought in £60m worth of Premier League players should get at least 4th place.
Yes the players have to be accountable as well for their capitulation at times, would they have played in the manner they have under SAF? I think not for fear of a football boot in the head, and I suspect many of those that put in a half shift will have had their cards marked by the upper brass as ones to be shipped out once the new manager is in.

Yeah, long-term project or not a minimum performance level is still going to be expected. 7th is clearly an awful performance with a team who finished top last season. Even then, I think most United fans would have just about accepted it if there were signs of improvement and/or that there was a structure/plan being implemented.

Not fit.
11 in 18 in PL, 4 in 4 in CL. Hatrick against Olympiakos in second leg after first leg disaster.
Don't buy it, any striker would be peed off with our lack of penetration and creativity.

Evra has started 41 games this season and has been better than he was last year (though still not great), especially considering no one in front of him defends at all. In an interview after christmas he pinned all the blame on the players and said they needed to start winning games.
Moyes described Vidic as the best defender he had ever worked with, only for his contract to not be extended and Moyes to completely change his mind and say we didn't need him next year.
Has played in all the big games.
Our two goal scorers against Bayern.

We were awful in that game, Moyes tactics were terrible and he waited until the game was lost to change anything. Didn't create a chance. 3 days later RVP got his hatrick against Olympiakos, he's been injured since.

There was a point Rodgers wasn't interested in the Liverpool job. There was a point Lambert wasn't interested in the Villa job. Managers come out with one thing and do another all the time
Plus he doesn't actually say he isn't interested. He says something about contracta

Said within an hour of Moyes being sacked, no chance of getting him.
Ah we are a laughing stock, good times.
Last summer the most important in european football ever, we hire an idiot and let all the staff go who made us a success. Well done lads.
