I quite like the young bucks at 9.26 followed a couple of groups later at 10.10 by the old farts. Not sure what Woodland and Stadler have done to deserve Sandy Lyle?

Some great groups and a pretty good forecast to look forward to, early rounds at any rate.
No news so far today of any late withdrawals.

I like the threesome of Woods Cabrera and Stenson inasmuch as I don't think either of Woods playing partners will be fazed with all the hoopla surrounding Woods.

I had to laugh at the 5Live trailer for the Open I heard the other day 'Will Tiger march to victory at Hoylake again, or will Justin, Luke or Lee get in his way?' The only way Westwood will be getting in Tiger's way is at the car park exit on Friday afternoon!

BBC reporting that Poulter had a precautionary MRI on a wrist injury incurred at Royal Aberdeen.
So this is a precautionary post. Result on Tuesday apparently.

He was fit enough to play Trump after missing the cut, so doubt it's that serious.

Woods is 25/1 to win it. I don't think he will win it but this might be the first time ever he's looked semi decent value for an each way bet.......

Re: Open Championship Thread: Tee Times
More examples as to why the R&A's qualifying system of adding alternates from the owgr's instead of local qualifying is absurd.
Not sure quite how but Summerhays (earlier reported to have taken the John Deere charter to Manchester), Noh (he said he didn't fancy travelling from Korea just for a Hoylake tee-time - why he didn't declare that earlier just suggests his indifference to the tournament)and Zanotti have all been taken off the list of alternates so next up is Ben Crane who apparently is trying to get to London (should've got a flight to MAN), will arrive tonight and presumably drive to Hoylake.
Calcavecchia withdrew because of a flight problem and couldn't be bothered to find an alternative and is now blaming American Airlines - idiot, it's always someone else, Calc.
Don't think a local qualifier would have had quite such a problem and might actually have made it to The Wirral.

Got to give Ben Crane some credit for busting his @$$ to get to Hoylake.
But since he is a god botherer and (allegedly) slow, I doubt if he is given much credit. Even though he does a have "traditional" name.

Shades of Ricky Barnes being summoned from his Aptos beach and doing so well three years ago at RSG!
Yup, good for Crane, but my point is that it shouldn't come to this. Plus he spends too much time reading his bible and not enough time with the OAG. Should have flown to Chicago for a direct flight instead of wasting time going to NYC.

I got the word from Rob Bolton about the "Steve Stricker" clause of playing 15 events.
Anyone (not just Steve Stricker) is only required to play 12 events if they are age 45 or older, and made 150 cuts on Tour.

Re: Open Championship Thread: Tee Times
An exclusive! Thanks.
Makes perfect sense - imagine we'll see him in Akron, Louisville and Barclays. Then hunting camp.
But he will need some decent results sooner or later as I'd think he'd want to retain his owgr Top 50 status at least until he's 50.

Re: Open Championship Thread: Tee Times
I read a report that the BBC is in threat of losing the Open coverage to Sky.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-2693562/BBC-danger-losing-The-Open-Sky-look-snap-flagship-golf-tournament.html
I don't really understand the logic in this from sports that then moan about the drop in participation of the sport.
If the R&A have any interested in the continuing growth of golf in Britain then the Open on free tv is a must. No doubt the local courses, pitch and putt, putting greens and crazy golf will be busy again this weekend. With an Open on Sky, I am not so sure they would.

Isn't that just the 2006 official film? Not exactly a preview of this year and lazy to say the least!
Sporty, I much prefer the bbc golf coverage to sky's but in a way I hope the bbc do lose it to them. At least if it was on sky they would treat it with some respect and you'd see adverts, preview shows etc in the same way as with the Masters

Not to drag the thread off on a tangent, but sky seem to be attempting a monopoly on all sport. They've even moved in on Gaelic Games in Ireland!!sportform wrote:I read a report that the BBC is in threat of losing the Open coverage to Sky.

Agree with your points sportform, t'would be very disappointing if the BBC lose Open and/or Masters coverage. Compared to sky their coverage is superior- free HD and a fraction of the ads.

Ok fair enough. Even still, a 30 min preview at nearly midnight, is that it?? Wow, they must really cherish having the Open.......

Re: Open Championship Thread: Tee Times
The Beeb have been advertising it for a few weeks, they have not hidden the fact that the Open is being shown. It would be a real shame for Golf if the Open went to Sky, the adverts are bad enough but the complete lack of Golf on free to air TV would be a nail in the coffin of the sport.

At least Sky would give it the coverage it deserved - and if their A team of commentators are a bit annoying, the B team are pretty good. Better than Alliss anyway
