Re: Open Championship Thread: Tee Times
Googled him when you made your post and couldn't find anything.
Sad day indeed.
I think they're going off two tees so that US TV can show Woods during the broadcast instead of having him play at 2.00 a.m. ET. Typical Dawson.
Marc Warren is showing up more and more often in the top events; played well at Oak Hill in the PGA last year; a former pupil of Torrance I believe. Warren definitely has big game potential - overdue to start realising it.

Re: Open Championship Thread: Tee Times
Certainly any player within 10 shots has a good as chance as anyone. McIlroy always has the spectre of a holocaust round the corner.
Good to see a cosmopolitan leader board for a change.
Torrance was once quoted as saying that Warren didn't have the minerals to be a top pro, too interested in spending his money and having a good time than working to get better.

s_r,
Perhaps Warren's money ran out a couple of years ago - he's been playing well since!
Good to see a bit of life in Scottish Golf.

Trouble with Warren is that he's a bit of a bottler. Blown the Scottish Open when leading twice in the last three years.

Re: Open Championship Thread: Tee Times
Some very funky groupings by pure happenstance for Saturday:
Bradley, Dufmeister, Mickelson
Coetzee, Oosthuizen, Schwartzel
Rose, Howell, Haas
Warren is with Karlsson and Furyk which should be a comfortable crew for him.

I think whoever put out the tee times on the Opengolf website needs to be drug tested

Tiger playing with Mr 55!
And I don't mean the young gun who hasn't won in more than a year!!
PS: Looks like Mr 56 may miss the cut in Boise.

Re: Open Championship Thread: Tee Times
If there were 18 groups I can see the logic in this. But there are 24 groups. So the first three groups on either side are going to get slotted in with the players who are just starting. Unless they are so slow that we get several groups backing up one one hole.

They sure did what they could to give Tiger a late tee time!
Why not just shuffle the field around so Tour darlings get the best weather as well...

They claim it's due to "Thunderstorms forecast".
Even on the East Coast of America it's still 6.01am.
Can't wait to see Ivor Robson running between the 1st and 10th tee's to announce them on in his shrill voice.

Couple of interesting videos on the sponsors side of the Open website. Harrington blindfold . Padraig has a go at chipping onto the green and then a Happy Gilmore shot. Both times blindfold.

Indeed Pedro, it absolutely stinks. That bald nine chinned miserable twit ought to be ought at first light and long gone before the proper players have actually started.

The Nike gear sported by their players this week has been ghastly. Like something out of the 90's.

Rors drive sits down on the first.
He is perfect under these conditions-Players going of in 3's and different tees(1st and 10th~) only plays more in to Rors hands, as everyone will get very similar conditions
Thankfully there is test cricket and the german grand prix going on this weekend.

If Shane had got a more favourable weather draw he could well be wearing the granite gown and limestone bodice of the Open champion tomorrow evening.

Re: Open Championship Thread: Tee Times
I couldn't bear it if Lowry won.
Someone like Dubuisson could come out of nowhere and grab this. At least one player is going to shoot something like a 64/65 and propel themselves into contention.

Is red button coverage working? Can only see the leaderboard as an option and apparently they have nothing for golf! Maybe it's just me

Re: Open Championship Thread: Tee Times
Has there been anything to justify sending them out on both nines?
Can't see it so far - Dawson just trying to make The Open just like any run-of-the-mill PGA Tour event by the looks of it.

Been a while since I've played with BBC TV Mysti so I didn't investigate the leaderboard but back on coverage now so doesn't really matter. Thanks mate

Starting to think Fowler could win this. Apart from looking like an absolute idiot, he can certainly play and he comes across quite well in interviews.

Re: Open Championship Thread: Tee Times
Fowler still hasn't put up his customary "big number", nothing worse than a bogey so far. You know there's a double, or worse, in his bag, just a question of when he'll bring it out.
Come on Rory! Hopefully his birdie will settle him down.

The weather forecast was horrendous so even if it doesn't get thunder storms it seems like tge right decision was made. Fowler has been brilliant in the majors this year.

But: So what if they played in carp and had to finish Round 3 on Sunday? Forecast for tomorrow is fine, 36 holes a doddle.

It's alright mysti, we'll be playing Tour events indoors soon enough, with blowers (not talking about Paris Hilton) to simulate breezy conditions.

Can't believe no one told Alliss that Johnson was putting for a five on the 7th. Both him and McIlroy were in trouble off of the tee. Wasn't he watching this.
