First topic message reminder :

Sunderland are apparently on for will Buckley again this weekend. Another one from Brighton.

Also after Nacer Chadli from spurs and Jonas from Valencia - along with still trying to persuade fabio borini.

We need a striker Crimey, and for the money where paying, there arent many that are better.

If there is no snags, am quite actually looking forawrd to him becoming a Liverpool player.

Agree we need a striker.
Agree £16 million isn't bad, especially in the current market.

Just don't want it to be Balotelli. Think it's just going to end in tears, and it would be a mistake to alienate Sturridge for Balotelli. Think Sturridge is much more likely to be stick around. Also thought it was going to be nice when Suarez left for Liverpool to actually be in the news for only good things but can't see that happening with Balotelli.
Maybe we'll be on tv more this season as the broadcasters hope Mario has a meltdown and we get another £90 million in revenue as a result. They we're all hoping Suarez would go off his nut last season too and were only disappointed it happened during the World Cup. I'm not as despondant as Crimey over this although I'm cynical but I've just texted a mate who said that we got Sturridge and Balotelli for what Utd paid for Fellaini so it could be worse.

Hes a very good striker, you do just wonder if he has the temperament to make it at a big side. Thats both Milan clubs and City that have cut loose now.

marios not worth the trouble, will win you some games but will cost you just as much with his lazy attitude, its all well and good saying its worth the risk at 16 mil but if reports are to believed he'll be on 180k week (said himself he'll be on 90k after tax)

at the minute you have a team who are willing to put the effort in for each other, he will knock that balance out both during games and training

Jordan Rhodes is a good signing for Hull if he can adapt to the Premier League, can see him at least getting the same goals as Shane Long did.

I'd like Rhodes at QPR. Don't think the step up will cause him too much problem he can finish and he puts a shift in. I'd say he was a step up from Long for the same money if they get him.

Balotelli spotted coming up the road to the training ground arriving for his medical. On a space hopper, with an inflatable crocodile under his arm humming Z cars and wearing an Everton shirt.

Probably.

Must admit I'd have loved it if we took a punt at Mario. But realistically, a player of colour with that temper is best served as far away from Spain as possible. Would have only ended in tears (definitely), failure (probably) and an assault charge (possibly). How was his behaviour last season? Don't remember too many negatives, and he's getting married and has a kid now, he'll come around.

Thats if Hull are allowed to sign him.

Dundee Utd are about to report them to Fifa because they've not paid the first installment of the Andrew Robertson fee (£1.3m) which was due last Friday apparently

Mario - there's a reason clubs let him go cheaply. He's not worth the trouble. Suarez was (until it went too far) but Balotelli is more consistently a c0ck and isn't half the player. Don't get it myself.

Rhodes for 12m? Jesus lord. Hull better hope he scores 15-20 goals because his contribution off the ball/holding the ball up is absolutely zilch. As for him making the step up, can he go from finishing one out of 4/5 chances a game to finishing maybe 1/2 chances a game. I don't think he can

Funny in the newspaper gossip column:

Manchester United are trying to keep a straight face as they pretend they would really, really, really, really, really like to sign a midfielder. Xabi Alonso is the latest player to be googled by Ed Woodward.

Why would Liverpool be interested in Balotelli? Double the trouble of Suarez for half the ability and is such a lazy worker. Then again he didn't have the worst goalscoring record at Man City and scored some goals for AC Milan the past season and a half. 30 goals in 52 appearances for them, that is not a bad record at all. He would certainly contribute towards the goals, he just needs managed properly. I'm not saying that Suarez wasn't, but, he consistently kept up his poor reputation, Balotelli cannot do the same. If he is managed properly and can limit his red card count, then he might just be a good player. Overall, if you balance out the risks with the positives of Balotelli's game, I'd make him a fairly good signing for Liverpool. But the risks can't overhaul his goals and ability.

Jordan Rhodes is a clinical striker and has performed well in both the Championship and League One. He has done it for 3/4 seasons now and was the top scorer last season for Blackburn and has always been up there with the goals and always in and around the 20-25 mark. I don't think he would be a bad signing at £12m, maybe a little overpriced (I'd have said £10m max IMO) but if he can deliver a solid 10-15 goals for Hull this season in all competitions (European included if they get there), then I feel it will have been a success. He is a poacher and that is what Hull need up front. Someone that can grab goals in goalscoring positions to consolidate another strong position in the Premier League and maybe making a Cup Final once again this season and hopefully, staying in Europe. But Europe can play a bad affect on teams. A lot of Hull's squad don't have the experience and may struggle should they make the group stages and look at Fulham, from the Europa League final to relegation in 5 years and a big step backwards.

Vargas is a good signing for QPR. Pacey and can score goals, him Remy and Austin could be a very good front 3 for QPR and will cause defences problems.

I'm praying as a utd fan we can somehow sign Di Maria and possibly Khedira but I still think Di Maria will go to PSG and Khedira elsewhere. Would be the perfect fit at Arsenal and exactly the type of player they require.

Might be something in the Cavani to Arsenal, Giroud and cash the other way story.

PSG need to balance the books, Cavani is deadweight with Ibra leading the line, and Giroud would represent another Cabaye style French deal.

Arsenal need to wake up & realise Giroud isn't the answer. If they can do the deal, I'd do it. I don't particularly think Cavani is amazing but he's certainly an upgrade on Giroud.

According to SSNHQ this morning, Rodgers has laid out a code of conduct for Balotelli that he has to sign up to and if he was to then step out of line he could face diciplinary action by the club. £16m for a guy who as talented as Balotelli is good business in todays market.

On talent alone absolutely.

But hes 16m for a reason. Inter, City and Milan have all decided the talent isn't worth the headache. Mourinho didn't exactly give him a ringing endorsement.

I actually don't think hes disruptive in the dressing room, the problems come when hes not the main man and he starts sulking and throwing tantrums. I thought he might've been a better fit at Arsenal where he'd be the de facto #1.

I'm with you Olly. Think he's sporadically brilliant, but not a top level striker. To be fair to Liverpool he's better than Remy, and should do a decent job until the disciplinary issues start to arise.

In other transfer news, Tom Carroll has joined Swansea on a year long loan from Spurs.

He's 24, loads of time to mature and has a good goal scoring record. Not sure what else the lad can do to be classed as a good striker. Yes he comes with baggage but Rodgers has ensured that this code of conduct is in place so he has hopefully taken measures to prevent any issues.

I don't doubt hes got ability, and whilst his record recently has been good, I don't rate Serie A at the moment. He had problems under a real mentor at City, his game wasnt up to much either. However, when good hes very very good.

My main problem is i'm not sure he quite fits the role he'll be given. He isn't better at what Sturridge does than Sturridge, he isn't a "second striker" and his movement isn't electric. His attitude is another added weight, and I just mean on the pitch. Off the pitch stuff is madness, but kind of unimportant. But his attitude to playing can be appalling and Liverpool don't need it.

However, the injection of quality and also a player who thinks himself world class is the benefit to weigh up.

I reckon he'll do well at Anfield for a couple of years before an eventual fallout. He's a player that will want the adulation and that's certainly something Liverpool fans do, he'll be centre stage and can behave as he wants and they'll put him higher on a pedestal.

his scoring record is nearly one in 3 in this league, bumped up a bit better if you include the poor italian league. add to that quite a lot of pens in his record and no assists (only one while at city) is that really that good of a record when playing for the best team in the league?

bit of context for you, giroud has a better scoring record in this country and he just gets slagged off all the time on here

If he's better than Remy, he should be banging 20+ goals in a Liverpool side with that creativity.

Hull or Sunderland would be Welbeck's options, he won't want to leave OT but will, if forced. He can't afford to sit on the bench anymore. I'd expect United will want £12m.

So who would you compare him to in respects of his talents?

I'd take Remy over him tbh

Oh dear......

Think Remy would suit Liverpool much better tbf

I wouldn't have minded Remy, but I'd take Balotelli over him everyday, this is even before the rumours of his 'failed' medical.

Balotelli is fantastic when he's driven and in the mood. The downside is he cares more about making the news and his quirky image.

There's been a lot of talk about Micah Richards going to West Ham. I think Richards will definitely leave City this window. Can only see Reid going to Arsenal if the Manolas deal falls through though.

As an Oldham fan, please let this Richards deal happen! We have 20-25% sell on clause, just a shame they didn't sell him a couple of years ago when he had a bigger value  Sad  £1million would keeps us running for a couple of years though  Very Happy

Sky Sports News: Mario Balotelli was offered to both Arsenal and Chelsea earlier this window. Both declined.

What happened at Milan with Mario? I don't remember reading too many negative stories.
