First topic message reminder :

such a shame Strootman got injured before the world cup. Think he'd be at the club otherwise. He should have been here last summer along with thiago but we ballsed it up and ended up with fellaini.

It would have been a perfect time for Wenger to walk after that cup final win last year. However, he's still struggling on.

I agree, should of 100% left after FA Cup on a high.

But 3 games in, too early to get on the blokes back.

Palace (H) - Played awful, but got the 3 points.

Everton (A) - Superb point.

Leciester (A) - Very, very lucky to get a point.

Villa looked good. Happy for Lambert, a manager I like.

Saying that, and I like Bruce too, but 3 at the back is not a smart move against a front three of Weimann, Agbonlahor and N'Zogbia. Davies and McShane getting pulled wide against proper speed merchants, and the Villa front men are wonderfully fluid when they're on form.

Lambert's a brilliant manager I don't know how many times I gotta say this. He's getting barely anything in terms of resources at Villa, but is keeping them comfortably mid table

Spurs actually were keeping the ball well. They were just too poor in the final third and so easy to mark.

It might not be the worst thing that Arsenal are struggling while the window is still open. This may provide Wenger the impetus to go out there and really get a striker. Kos was to blame for the LC goal and one can take that with a grain of salt as he did have a concussion and was taken out moments later. A poor performance from Ramsey, as Ramsey goes so do the gunners. Podolski should have been in there as the striker and not Ya ya that is pretty obvious. Cazorla was our best player so I don't know why he was subbed.

To be fair to Arsenal, they tried to get Vela back and he said he didn't want to.

I don't think Spurs were actually that bad.

I think your only saying this because of what he did for Norwich.

Not done alot in the prem to say he is brilliant.
WE're 3rd and its been great, but lets not get carried away.
Will see how we do come may.
Still say there is no way we will go down(although you cant blame people for putting us as one of the hree to go down).

Definatly think Keane has had an early influence.

I would love it if we do well this season, if we do it wont all be down to Lambert.

Well that's one way of paying for this Falcao deal, for once we've seen a weakness in a buyer and got maximum value for a player. I like Welbeck and think his pace is something we're lacking but you can't turn down £16mil for a player who isn't a great finisher.

I think arsenal have had a result tbh. He will go at the same rate as giroud if not better.

Arsenal will not waste him on the wing. He will only play as a striker.

I think Cleverley has just hammered the last nail into his career there and then, happy to see out the final year of his contract for the money, he'll barely play and end up getting paid far less next summer.

Bang on. Literally can't stand that t***! Hope he rots in the reserves, then ends up in lower leagues, where he belongs. Still can't get over how many times he played for our country.

Man u seem to really have dropped the bomb in not getting rid of enough players.

I can also see falcao failing and then they will probably pull welbeck back.

They have to be 100% sure falcao is fully recovered on a one year deal.

Wow, Man U is spending like the dickens. I bet Moyes is wondering why didn't I get a 100 million pounds of spending in the transfer window before I came along? Still United have strengthended immeasurably in terms of talent. I didn't think Welbeck was worth 20 plus million, but for 16 million for a young forward with some potential and some goals in the premier league I think Arsenal did a good bit of business. Still Chelsea and United strengthened a lot more than we did this window.

It is kind of funny that United people just a few weeks ago were arguing with me that United don't make big signings of continental players typically over the years. Well they have made two huge signings in the last month of continental superstars from big clubs. Can't see them not getting back to the CL this year with Rooney, RVP, Mata, Falcao, and Di Maria. Plus the other guys they brought in.

I think there's two factors as to why the big spend from Utd:

1. Necessity, it had to be done after years of neglect on the squad whilst City, Chelsea and yes Arsenal & Liverpool overtook us with purchases. Simply put Fergie's last few years of transfers were more miss than hit.
2. We can. I don't think this is a one-off repair job this summer, the amount of sponsor deals that Woodward has got may be laughed at, but going forward the debt will be gone, the Glazers can dip in and get their pennies but Utd can match and beat Chelsea/City each summer as the FFP won't affect them to the same extent, even with Falcao on uber wages we still have the lowest wage ratio in the league.

I agree with this post, United generate more revenue than anyone else in the premier league so if FFP is enforced they will be able to outmuscle the rich daddy clubs Chelsea and Man City. We have already seen that Man City has not brought in players like they used to in the past and has been the quietest of the big clubs this transfer window. Arsenal also should benefit from FFP because after United on a lesser scale to United we have some of the same advantages of being a big revenue generating club with a large global brand. We can't out spend the mad sheik or Dr. No Abramovich but as a club we can match them in real revenues.

Arsenal have begun to flex their financial muscles in the past couple of years with a couple of statement purchases in Sanchez and Ozil, they know two they can use the FFP to their benefit like Utd but obviously to a lesser extent. Chelsea and City are and will be be doing their damnedest over the coming years to get the business deals in place like Utd to counteract the FFP.

Man u are pressured to get back in the Cl though or there sponsership (its based on hitting CL or it goes down)and lack of CL money plus less merchandise sales and lower league position could take 80m plus of there revenue..

This bold move needs to work.

I am very pleased as a palace fan after the recent nightmares.. We got the LB and CM. Gayle is going to be featuring. Zaha back.. We didn't lose punch ,bolasie ,Jedi, dann or ward. We have a better squad even if we don't have TP.

If we keep having summers like this one we'll be untouchable. Net spend of £3.1m for the summer. £-7.3m without Remy.

Somehow I suspect 50m for David Luiz won't be a yearly thing

Without question CFCNick chelsea had the best window. Remy, Costa, and Fabregas while dumping Mata and Luiz for way more than they are worth shows that Jose understands the transfer market as well as the tactics to be successful. He is a great manager no question.

Mysti, if United fail to make CL again these rich commercial deals as you pointed out will be reduced greatly in value. But I honestly think they will get there once players get used to the new system and the transfers settle in. Could see them finishing as high as second.

Is Wenger shattering the myth that he won't spend?

Yes. But we still have the players that could command large fees when it comes to selling.

Difference being is you sold a defender who cannot perform the most of jobs required (defending) for the World record fee for a defender.

Wenger spends, no denying that, he just buys the wrong type of player. I can't believe the positivity on the Welbeck deal, basically you needed a top prolific striker, Sanchez isn't it, you went into the market again to get one & you signed Welbeck, pure comedy spending £50m & still not having the right striker. Welbeck wasn't good enough for a seventh placed United & he can't hit a barn door, now he's given the job of making the difference for Arsenal to help win a league. Midfield has been ignored defensively, fully expect the same kind of results away for Arsenal. I just look at Arsenal & see clone after clone after clone of pacey wide men like Sanchez, Welbeck, Walcott & Oxlade. Another year of league disappointment.
