I see his point too, but Ashley is more inclined to look for resale value. Wijnaldum is a top signing & I wouldn't swap him or what a statement that brings, you could argue Austin & Mitrovic there isn't too much difference, what swayed it was the fact he's five years younger than Austin & £2m cheaper, with a great resale value potential. Evans over Mbemba, yeah, I'd of gone for Evans definitely.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Yhe think Newcastle have made some great signings this year and like John alluded to, mitrovic and wijnaldum have very good re-sale value if they do well. I think Mitrovic is a good signing as not only does he seem to have an eye for goal, but he's also 6"2 so I wouldn't have thought he'd have much trouble adapting to the physical aspect of the league. Although I did read he's a bit of a balotelli type player and quite difficult to manage, often throwing strops etc.

Reports in Spain saying that a number of clubs are interested in Pedro but specifically states United are not willing to pay the €30m buy out for him
United want Ramos to publically state he wants to leave Madrid but the player won't
The Ronaldo rumours have started again, all we need now is to be 'on the verge' of signing gaitan and schneider and we'll have gone full circle
Villa lining up Austin as Bentekes replacement but QPR are hoping to keep hold of him

Few rumour mills. this morning doing the rounds at VP.
Adebayor again, seems likely we will get him, ( rather Austin).
Algeria forward Islam Slimani from Sporting Lisbon.
Jordan Ayew from Lorient.
Ashley Young to return?
Ah, gotta love the transfer window.

Never been a huge fan of the Ayew brothers, Jordan isn't prolific, I'm surprised Villa can't throw another £3m & go at get a proven striker in Austin.

Not a patch on Benteke - I'd be worried as a villa fan, core of the team has been ripped out and replaced poorly.
Will need players like Grealish to step up

Just had a look at his record. Not great.
Lets see who else we sign.
Obviously with Benteke and Delph gone, the squad is weaker.
Don't think our squad is any worse than the 3 teams that came up, and teams around us.
Season not kicked off yet, so to early to be worried.

It's akin to giving Oscar Pistorius a foot massage, what a joke. Even on a pay-to-play deal he's not worth the effort. And CM is the very last position we need signingsFernando wrote:Abou Diaby is having a medical at West Brom

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Sounds like we're waiting on Hernandez, guessing there is no move till Man United feel they have adequate resources in attack (whether that be a new striker or Pedro), Song is injured till November so may be a Jan signing, but that deal is fully agreed in principle, we're gonna bid again for Mirallas and seem confident in signing Cambiasso. Also definite interest in Alen Halilovic, either on loan or with a buy back clause.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
I do fear we might not jump at Mirallas with the probably £10m they'll want, just because hes last year of contract. Would be unwise in my eyes. If we go in with:
Adrian (Randolph)
Jenks (JOB)
Ogbonna (Tomkins)
Reid (Collins)
Cresswell (Hendrie)
Noble (Poyet)
Song (Cambiasso/Halilovic)
Kouyate (Obiang)
Payet (Zarate/Lanzini/Amalfitano)
Mirallas (Valencia)
Sakho (Hernandez/Carroll)
That means we can get rid of Nolan, Maiga (except no one wants him) and Jarvis. We have a few decent youth lads to fill in any gaps, especially Samuelsen, Oxford, Henry and Burke.

I would be genuinely surprised if we concluded those deals mentioned though. 2 at best. I think we'll chase a wide man, central midfielder and a striker definitely. I wouldnt mind someone to compete with Jenks so that we're not stuck with only Joey O'Brien as cover.

Jordan Ayew is a talent, with everything you'd want in a player. Unfortunately, his decision making is urine poor and this makes him pretty poor.

£7m for Brady
Really is amazing how expensive average relegated players have become these days. I mean, even James Chester is now being touted around for £10m

PSG have agreed a €65m(£46.5m) fee with Manchester United for the transfer of Argentine winger Angel Di Maria. United will incur a loss of £13.2m plus whaetver wages they forked out for the Argentine in 2014-15.

Juventus are close to completing a deal for FC Schalke 04 starlet Julian Draxler. Draxler's agent has confirmed the young German has already agreed a 5 year deal, but the two parties are still haggling over a transfer fee.
This is a strange move for an FC Bayern like myself. FC Bayern have a first option on Draxler, and in previous seasons blocked Arsenal from signing Draxler. Now we have ageing wingers and instead of signing Draxler, we end up signing Douglas Costa...Where's the logic?

I highly doubt Bayern had first option on a player they have never owned, would make no sense for Schalke to have such a deal in place especially when he had a very well known release clause.

It's an open secret in Germany that FC Bayern have first pick on the best German players should they ever wish to leave their clubs or their clubs want to cash in on them. It's based on the belief if FC Bayern are strong, Germany will in turn be strong.Hammersmith harrier wrote:I highly doubt Bayern had first option on a player they have never owned, would make no sense for Schalke to have such a deal in place especially when he had a very well known release clause.

What a load of rubbish, they're richer than anyone so wouldn't get outbid on a player but national league would have such an elitist system in place, it's all a load of crap.

Call it whatever you like, that's the rumours. As for being richest, that's correct but that doesn't mean you still get the best players just look at Manchester City...Hammersmith harrier wrote:What a load of rubbish, they're richer than anyone so wouldn't get outbid on a player but national league would have such an elitist system in place, it's all a load of crap.

it's no big miss for united, he used the 'family is unsettled' excuse to cover the fact his actual footballing ability was lacking in this league. he was never a consistant world class performer, he had a great six months for madrid, when defences in a weaker la liga were first having to handle the trio of ronaldo, bale & benzema & it gave the argentinian the platform to shine. PL is a different kettle of fish & he simply couldnt perform to the heightened levels he showed at madrid.
he will now go and play in a shocking league for a team that last year won the quadruple domestically. let me guess, he suddenly will look 'world class' again this season.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Like I've said, and will continue to say Re: Di Maria... It's a real pity. When you look at the EPL assist charts, ADM is third. The next Utd player is 32nd. If Angel had a poor season, logic dictates the entire creative team at UTD should be shot by firing squad? I'm not sure LVG ever really wanted him. Played him out of position, and then didn't give him a chance to get back on the horse when he came back from injury. Seems to have been a signing UTD made to flex their muscles, rather than improve the squad. You won't find me complaining though. RealMa used the money to get Rodriguez.

Looks like West Ham have got Song back on a permanent deal and have bagged Haliovic for less than 5m. Touted as a future Balloon Door winner so that's possibly a steal.

Theres also an opportunity for him to play a similar role to his last year at Madrid, with Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin providing legs and defensive nous in CM and Depay and seemingly Pedro incoming

Halilovic will have a buy-back deal written in so that Barca can hoover him back up again if he gets any good. I think those deals only run two years though. I'd read £4.2m for us and then they can get him back for £6.4m.
Song will be out for a few months but yeah, sounds like hes done.

I do despise these buy back clauses, I don't think they should be allowed personally, they scream of a way around third party ownership and for big teams to effectively loan out a player in the hope he makes it big.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
There isn't an issue, they own the player, have developed that player & therefore have the right to sell that player, under their specific demands. If they include a clause, then it's openly agreed with the buying club, so both sides understand the specifics of the deal & what might occur, if the player is a success. No issue for me

Baggies linked with £5m move for Ciaran Clarke.
While he isnt great, I do like Clarke.
With Vlaar having more than likely played his last game for Villa and Baker linked with Burnley, we cant afford to be short at the back.
Sherwood focusing to much on Benteke's replacement, he seems to be forgetting to strengthen the defence.

My only issue with buy-back clauses is how long they last for. 2 years is probably a bit long considering prices are inflating so much that it's basically the same fee. But that's probably fine really. But if it were 5 years then it's a travesty because you're able to stockpile players and hold individuals and clubs to ransom.

Sergio Romero joins United
Louis van Gaal has addressed the media to discuss his latest acquisition, and the Dutch boss confirmed that Romero has been signed to cover the threat of David De Gea moving to Real Madrid.
Van Gaal explained:
I think that in our circumstances, with the threat that David de Gea is going to Real Madrid, we have to prepare our season and I think Sergio Romero can fulfil that because you have to handle very quickly when it may happen with David de Gea.

Crespo was relegated with Córdoba, another strange Sherwood signing.
Not sure where Romero gets the bad tag, he's not bad, but he's not world class. Still got to the WC final, Copa America final & was brilliant for AZ when he won the Eredivisie.

When he's good he's great, when he's bad he's rubbish. There are plenty of teams with worse keepers, but he's not consistent enough to be starter for a club like United for me.LiamB wrote:Not sure where Romero gets the bad tag, he's not bad, but he's not world class.
