I can think of least 3 Fred's I would rather have at the Treasury than Kwasimodo.

Flintoff
Sirieix
West (dead or alive version).

I'm sure there are others.

sirfredperry... the poster on here. Pretty sure he'd make a better fist of it too. He knows his tennis so that's a big plus in my book.
That Brazilian footballer "Fred". Might have to fast track his residency application though.

Both good shouts, Pee Jay. And you, rICk.

Durst. He'd bring the party to no 11 for sure. Although he'd probably be alarmed at the volumes of class A's already on offer.

Tino, what are your thoughts on James Cleverly?

I saw him being interviewed just before and I wouldn't trust him with a bar of soap... let alone Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. There's something ominously evil about him I reckon.

That other army bloke who was in the running for PM and got eliminated (or dropped out) early on... was it Wallace?... looks like he would have been better suited for whatever Cleverly's mumbling on about. He's got a more trustworthy face.

Jules, I was surprised you missed my Gaslight pun in relation to the death of Angela Lansbury.

Next time I leave the "ed" off the "gaslighted".
That must have thrown a few people off. Together with the fact that Jeff never actually gaslighted any of us.

Completely ignoring us is a different thing, yes? Anyway, Gaslight was a decent film.

I'm not all over the story as much as I should be, Pee Jay. Apathy has taken hold.

But, I did hear Cleverly on the wireless this morning doing his best to support Kwasimodo and his FUBAR mini-budget so I have automatically labelled him a monumental d*ckhead.

Maybe you mean Tudgenhat rather than Wallace? Wallace looks like a painted hard-boiled egg so I don't think you mean him. Tudgenhat is ex-military as well.

You're probably right. Is Tugendhat from the North? I thought it was Wallace from up there. True, he does look like a painted hard-boiled egg or even a half-boiled potato... but I assumed he was a Man of Steel (underneath the egg/vegetable facade) having spent some time in the army.

I'll take your word on him though. Anyone who bails out when the going get tough is probably only 'desk military' and not made of the right stuff.

I won't have to worry about these increases in energy prices as I'm about to become very rich.  I recently received an email from the son of a deceased African president who has a large sum of money in a Swiss bank account and he needs to use my account to retrieve the money.  I was a bit suspicious when I started reading it but he's from Zambia and not Nigeria so it's not one of those scams.

It all started the other day when Larry chased that fox from the flower garden near No. 10... or No. 11.
From that moment on - Quasimodo's Dream became a nightmare. Cats can sense evil you know... they hate intruders. Just ask Galts.

Sounds like you'll soon be living on Zambezi Street.

I congo there to live, I prefer to stick to my roots.

Going back to your roots would be quite an odyssey.

Not acknowledged. Perhaps I should be looking for a way out.

I didn't understand it.

Me neither. I'm grateful to Tino for speaking out.

Us minorities need to stick together, Galted. We are stronger together.

Fist.

Catching up with the learned comments from you gentlemen and this one caught my eye.

Twenty years or so ago I was at a meeting in which the director of a company with branches across most of England was discussing - as he saw it - the daftness of the then newly introduced minimum wage. As he put it, ''If you're on 10 grand in London, you're on skid row. 10 grand at my office in the North and you can live in a mansion, dine out every night and still have enough change to buy a belt to beat the wife.''

L*l out loud.

I don't know what's more disturbing, the belt bit or that there are mansions in the north. I was earning 10 grand 25 years ago and lived in Neasden, which is worse than skid row so he wasn't far wrong.

In other news I did get the job. Assuming vetting goes OK 4 weeks from now I'll be starting to do my bit to ensure that the UK has a glowing future.

Congratulations LiW.

I presume you won't be handling the enriched uranium personally. That job's probably best delegated to the interns wearing the appropriate PPE.

My particular area of expertise is sometimes called Colours For Directors so basically they'll just be giving me an expensive set of crayons. But you are in the right area.
