Unless I've eaten some of LiW's yellow cake. More greenish-blue I'd say... with a healthy radiant glow.

Value at Risk or Video Assisted Referee? I used to know a lot about Value at Risk but now I know more about Video Assisted Referees.
That is the kind of cutting edge analysis I can provide, rICk.

Unmichaesling of my old chum Superfly.
I'm off to see the in-laws tomorrow for a week. You know the drill, black and brown bins out Sunday night please. I'll be back for the following Sunday so can leave the purple bin.
Family plan has always been to retire back in Canada but this is country is so FUBAR and such a f*cking laughing stock, I am seriously considering combining this brief trip with a bit of house hunting.

What's your purple bin used for again, Tino? Is that for rural recyclable stuff? Not for cytotoxic or cytostatic waste surely?
Have a good trip to Canada.
I was thinking of doing a T20 tipping comp but seeing you'll be away for some of it - that gives me a reason for not doing one.

Purple bin is general waste, Pee Jay. Brown for garden waste and black for recycling. Please make a note for future reference. Happy to repay the favour next time you're away. Although I am scared of what I'll find at your place. Either something that can bite and kill me or a bunch of actors dressed as zombies.
I love your tipping competitions, genuinely do. Looking forward to the Ashes version next summer. That should be a bit spicy!

Go for the visit? No, not a chance.
Go for good? Could possibly get a round started by then. Probably wouldn't finish it though.
Still waiting for riCK's Friday quiz. Did he ever specify which Friday?

Galtova and I have entertained a vague plan of moving to the States for some time. Had told her mother we'd do so before jr started school, which was two months ago.
But it turns out that Galtova has never actually had any intention of doing so, which is quite annoying.

Good afternoon gentlemen, what's new?
Or should I just head over to the Golf or Politics thread to find out?
Also, just an advance heads up, mainly for supes, but the missus wants to go to Edinburgh for her Birthday on or around 7th December, just not to breach the rules.
Also as it has been ages since I have been there, what's good to do and eat?

I'm not out much in Edinburgh anymore so probably not as down with the kids as I used to be. Depends on what kind of day/night you want but was recently out with work at a place called Lane 7 in the new St James Quarter. Pub/Bowling Alley/Crazy Golf/Pool place and they do really good (but heart attack inducing burgers). You could easily pass a few hours in there. Might be a few kids in it during the day but it's defnitely more aimed at adults and you can book your own separate lane so you don't have to mingle with other people. Here's a link to their website:
https://lane7.co.uk/edinburgh/
If you're looking at something a bit more upmarket then Mrs Superfly tells me that the Alchemist is really good but then she does like cocktails and poncy bars.
For food, I tend to always recommend Fishers either at The Shore or on Thistle Street. Really good seafood and always decently priced. I slightly prefer the one at the Shore but it's a bit out of the way and it tends to be nicer down at the Shore during the summer. If you are prepared to head down to Leith then can also recommend the Chop House (although following a quick check of their website I can see that they now have two other places at Market Street (right next to Waverley) and in Bruntsfield (near the Meadows)). Quite informal and they are definitely bar type restaurants but the food was really good.
If you're there at the weekend, then avoid the Grassmarket and Rose Street pubs - especially at night. They'll be full of stag and hen parties. Only a few pubs I've been in recently and not sure what is left post-Covid, but I like the Hanging Bat and the Red Squirrel (does good lunch food), both of which are on Lothian Road. Sandy Bells (near George IV bridge) is a proper old pub and the Brass Monkey on Drummond Street is pretty decent and if you time it right, they show films.

Nice one, supes, much appreciated.
If I see anyone that I used to go to Uni with, I will go in the opposite direction just to be sure.
I am just hoping she doesn't want to do the Witchery tour things, from memory they are forced fun cack, thou they may have changed them up.
All well in the world with you?

Excellent review of the Edinburgh pub scene, super. Just had a look at your recommendations. Some mouth-watering food and beverages!
Enjoy your trip, Rick. You can't go wrong with Super's advice.
The Brass Monkey with all the mattresses laid out for film watching... you'd find it hard to leave I'd imagine. Looks amazing.
