No difference in the before and after pictures.
Only a mile or so from where I grew up (although that estate was considered to be nicer than the one I grew up in). Has always been bandit country and definitely advisable to check your car is in good working order before attempting to drive through it and if you can, have someone literally ride shotgun.
Captain of my youth football team was from Kirkton - he once got a match abandoned by starting a fight with all four opposition defenders, which he won, but which resulted in all 5 of them being sent off and the other side being unable to continue. This was under 13's.
l*l out loud.
That's why I know you'd smash me in a straightener, Supes. I'm from a rough town in the north, but you're from a rough town in Scotland. No contest. It would be like Ned Stark trying to take down that big ginger wildling from GoT.
(Galted would be the bald bloke from Kings Landing)
I'll add a l*l out loud to the football story. I suspect that Super is really Irish.
The year before I attended high school the head of the Students' Christian Association was involved in a knife fight on the playing field (in his defence, I think he received more than he gaveth). Not long after I'd left the headmaster was done for trying to drown his wife in the bath.

G'day Rick. How's it going?
Just reading Galted's last sentence above.
An "I" after headmaster would make it even more interesting

Still unusual weather for spring and a bit quiet on the wildlife front where I am.
It's different across town at Mum's. There's a wallaby there eating flowers from a neighbour's garden. It ate well over $100 worth in the last few weeks. These are quite posh flowers too from some snobby upmarket nursery. Unfortunately (for the owner) there is no fence. The garden just backs on to the reserve.
Besides that, we're just waiting for 'normal' weather again. It can be a bit depressing but there are signs it could warm up soon so may as well make the most of the mild temperatures.

As much as I love you, Pee Jay, it would be amusing if Australia go out of their own WC in the group stages.

It would be amusing, Tino. Also completely of their own doing. Which is an achievement in itself.
As I say on the cricket thread it would be obscene if they got through on the back of someone else's misfortune. I really hope England do the business tomorrow. They should. Much better having them, India, NZ and SA battling it out for the T20 WC glory in the semis and final.
The only worry I have for you is the next match v India - that is, if all goes to plan v SL. India would be England's biggest hurdle I believe.
Followed by SA... then NZ but I guess anyone would be foolish to write any of them off. This format can produce unexpected surprises, yeah?

Yep, far more chance for 'upset' results in T20. Happens with alarming regularity if you're a 'big' team.
SA look quite impressive, especially the bowling unit. But if de Kock (l*l) and Rossouw don't fire, they could be in trouble. Markram and Stubbs can smack a ball as well. They are always due a choke though so fully expecting that. For a nation of Alpha males, they are very prone to swallowing their own b*llocks.

Yours would have been better with an upper case D, Jules.
I had a bit of a rant on the cricket thread... somehow bringing the Qatar world cup into it. Where are the moral saviours of our times? Like you say on the politics thread - you've lost hope in humanity. I'm also fed up with all the pathetic hypocrisy going around in just about every aspect of our times. I refuse to be treated like an idiot by idiots! Let alone by heartless politicians and half-tattooed sports persons.

They've managed it before, in the '92 world cup. Funny as that was, and this would be, they don't quite match up to England fluffing it in the 2015 RWC and SA becoming the first football world cup hosts not to make it to the second round.

Now that really was funny. Almost as funny as Lancaster taking Burgess off against Wales when he was the actually the best English back on the pitch. His time in Union was a disaster but not in that game.
I did actually go the 2015 final though. Was a belting day out. Loads of Kiwi's doing the Haka all the way down to Twickers. People offering up to £1k for tickets. I got very, very drunk and left a fairly new coat on the train. Happy days.

I didn't mention it on here but about a month ago I had 4 girls from South Sudan stay here for 4 days. A fist for me. OK, they were a bunch of very articulate party girls up from Melbourne (to go clubbing here) but I had a good talk one night to 'the Alpha female'... about the war and floods in S. Sudan. She came over here as a baby so doesn't remember anything but you could tell things were very tough for her family and it was oviously emotional for her to talk about it.
So I got the message quickly. Better not delve into the details. Anyway, we all got on very well. It was absolutely pouring rain when they wanted to head out. I offered one of them my big umbrella... then I also offered to drive them to the club at around 11:30pm. The main girl was very appreciative. It would have taken them over an hour (if lucky) but they were at the nightclub door in 30 minutes by car. She even called me "Dad" along the way. I thought I'd never see the umbrella again (you know how it is in a crowded place dancing the night away) but I think the alpha girl told the other one "don't you dare lose that umbrella!" I was actually amazed she managed to keep it and return home with it the next morning.
Not exactly taking them into my home for the long term but for me it was a good experience nonetheless. I suppose I was lucky I had sensible strangers here for a few days. I did have a dodgy request to do a deal with some Ukrainians but that was through a middle person or some sort of property agent. Airbnb cottoned on (and so did I) and that person's account was banned. I would have no problems helping Ukrainians stay here otherwise.

They were waaaay above me, Tino. The boss girl was stunning. One looked like a young Aretha. Another like one of the Destiny Child group... sultry and sexy... look but don't touch me. The last one was quite large and friendly... the one I lent the umbrella to. Massive norcs. I think she was a bit unsure of herself but I gave her a complimentary reply when she asked me if she looked OK... after about 5 hours prep work.

Aye lad. Not bad't'all.
They also did a bit of cooking and ordered me to have some. It was really tasty. Pasta African style and some exotic vegetables on the side. Quite a culinary novelty for me. Needless to say we gave each other 5 stars and glowing reviews... just after the uranium took effect.

Called it, Pee Jay.
Too funny. They've always got action netball to fall back on.

SA are cricket's equivalent of Eddie the Eagle or Eric the Eel. Provide a bit of comic relief before the serious competitors decide the final placings.

I make you correct, Galted.
Only difference being, I don't recall Eric or Eddie throwing their c*ck over their shoulder and strutting around like John Wayne as almost all SA men do.

I think his online romance with Julius is greatly affecting his judgment.

By 10 am today I'd had 2 cups of coffee, taken my kid to school, had one crap, let the cat out into the hallway for a walk, cleaned up the cat's vomit and received a like from Jeff on Tw*tter.
This is the kind of get up and go that separates people like Elon Musk, Oprah Winfrey and myself from the rest of the world.

Could you maybe ask Jeff to come back here? Or ask Elon to ask?

I'd be too afraid of Jeff's scorn to approach him about such a matter. Rick once made the suggestion but was blanked in a manner I found very rude.

I honestly think I could be the difference maker though, Galted. I think I was dead when Jeff left to become an influencer and it breaks my heart to think he is struggling through life under the impression I am still deceased. It could be enough to get him back.
Although I did give him some trading advice in private many years ago which backfired spectacularly. Hope he didn't put his collection of horse shoes and whippet collars on it.

Bit hurtful that you give other people sh*t advice and not me. I hope Jeff put his collection of jazz records on it.
