The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Cakes just seem to appear in this other place I'm working in. Someone's always bringing them in. Really good bunch of people there though. I wouldn't be disappointed if I got moved there permanently, but who knows where I'll be in a few months.
The nine o'clock starts have been weird. I seem to have a lot of time in the morning before actually starting work.
Ah it sounds nice there Cari. Kind of place you'd be happier in. Be great if you could get a transfer.

You should go. The real rule of thumb for music is if you don't know anything about it- go to it.
I've been to everything from Drum n Bass nights to Irish Trad. Sessions, Free Improv to Pop-Rock, Free Jazz to BeBop, African Acapella Choirs to State-funded orchestras, experimental electronica to folk nights, intimate acoustic nights to full-blown stadium gigs, HipHop to Blues Rock, Baroque chamber music to cutting edge Acousmatic concerts.
You NEED to do that to figure out the fullest exent of who you are musically and what you react to most strongly. I've been to so many gigs I have hated and those are the ones that have been most important in my development as a musician and as a listener. We aren't born knowing how to listen to music you know- it's a lifelong learning process.
So get involved! Break open the dam that contains all the infinite possibilities the world of music holds and drift away on the wave. You live but once! So make it a good time
Music, like Life - is a learning process. It all is. Its a wonderful thing if you let it in, give it a listen and always keep open to new experiences and possibilities. Immerse yourself in it. And keep and cherish the bits you like. You can only fully realise those, if you try and taste everything else 1st though. I love it all. Well maybe except Celine Dion.
Except Daniel O'Donnell
At the end of the day, I'm madly passionate about rugby. But it's a game. A game I really care deeply about. Music... music is part of the essential tapestry of my life!

Morning all
I see Sean O'Brien was spotted at wimbeldon yesterday with some of the England cricket team. He was there with the Irish cricketer (who plays for England). Apparently good friends.
The brother went to Glastonbury last night. Can't say it would be my cup of tea not beimg able to wash or what ever.
In training all day so won't be in.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yeah is good luckless.
The team I was on I really enjoyed working on, but the field of type of crimes we dealt with was very narrow, whereas where I am now I get the whole spectrum of offences, and it really tests me as both a detective and as a person. It is only temporary at the moment, covering for someone for 3 months, but I know there I vacancies in the department so am going to try to stay, as long as I can sort out a flexible working pattern for the wife which fits with the shifts I'll be on.
Good to hear all is running smoothly in here still in my absence. I bet it was buzzing in here with Rory winning the Open the other night. His tweets on it made me laugh.

Bore Da pawb/Good Morning all,
hope you're all well today.
We've had a seagul chick running around the car park all week and the parent gulls are SO aggressive in defending it. Every time a social worker gets into the building it's like they've had another norrow escape. I'm personally finding it quite funny because I don't have to go anywhere near it, but I think everyone else is terrified! We're hoping it learns to fly over the weekend

Most birds are really protective when it comes to their young - divebombing and all that jazz. My next-door neighbour came home one day to find a jackdaw chick that had fallen down the chimney from the nest into her living room. She took it outside and there was a dozen or so jackdaws divebombing her.

Stag - yes, I've even seen these particular ones trying to dive bomb a delivery van that turned up in our car park! The chick is still pretty small though, reckon it'll be about another 10 days before it's ready to fly.

I rock climb a bit and the feckers are aggressive alright. They projectile vomit at you and attack you if you get close to their nest. I've been lucky but I know of plenty of people who've been attacked by them.

Luckless, commented on that thread, its an absolute disgrace. I feel so strongly about this, all home games in Ireland are supposed to be protected and be free to air, this sets a horrible precedence for the future

I'm not happy that this has happened with Wales's home game against England either, Hughie. The home union shouldn't just kowtow to the RFU's demands like that.

I agree with the both of you. Am seriously not happy about this, it's been decided on once now, what's not to say this won't happen in the future? I thought all of Wales' matches, especially home ones, were protected.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Personally I think the other unions should take a stand and boycott playing home matches against England. This is BS, how can the RFU sell the TV rights to England's away matches?

That's the same with us dreamer. Sky tried to take the football to pay per few only but the government blocked it and said all football and rugby home games should be free to air

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Then how on earth have they managed to get this match on Sky?
Guess there's some sort of stupid loophole where friendlies weren't under that protection or something. Still it's not on. Our home unions should have done more to protect this I think.

My guess is that the RFU offered the WRU and the IRFU a cut of Sky's money and they accepted it. Money talks, unfortunately.

Dreamer, only the home 6 nations games are protected for Wales. Anything else they bid for and the WRU have to agree it. I presume the games were agreed on the basis the home nation sold the exclusive rights for the game to Sky. They don't have to play England.
Not sure how it works though because the Argentina games weren't on Sky in 2009 after the last deal was made in 2008. If they HAVE to be on sky why weren't those?

I doubt the RFU get any money from Sky for the games (other than maybe bonuses in the original deal). The specific money for those games would be split as usual (or all going to the home nation, however it usually works). Otherwise there is no way the WRU would agree to the game in the first place.

I thought the Autumn Internationals were protected also? I know sometimes the Beeb haven't always had the Wales matches, but if they haven't then at least S4C have. Just don't understand how this situation has come about. Stupid money.

Kia ora, mauri ora all. Manic day with meetings so I probably won't be in much.
I played softball for my old work team last night, and we gave Yahoo a right beating 27-9 . And current work's team has won it's 1st game of the season, the opposition have defaulted for tonight. Which means we can all go to the leaving do for a couple of long-serving staff .
On Sunday I'm turning out for FallingTP's cricket team. We're playing here, pretty impressive historic ground.

Dreamer the only rugby union that must be provided by free-to-air channel are the Welsh 6 nation home games, World Cup and 6 nation highlights. Everything else can be sold off.
Of course if the WRU had a deal with S4C/BBC then that's different. I assume they don't have one that covers these freiendlies

Rumours here that Rob Howley might be taking over at the Blues from Dai Young, who might be off to Wasps:
https://www.606v2.com/t7677-rob-howley-to-the-blues
I don't know if that's good news for the Blues, but it would be good news for Wales. Howley has been very poor as backs coach - unless he's totally under Gatland's thumb and has no input whatsoever.

How do Regz.
As far as I'm aware it's only the Six Nations that were secured by the BBC/RTE. Other international matches weren't.
Seagulls are evil especially in Cardiff on bin day.
