The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?
FYI, the last pub was :

I don't think I've ever had a bad school report. Maybe in some subjects like Maths where I could have tried a bit harder but that's it really.

So what you are saying Nottins is that even though he was "technically out" it wasn't his fault he was out so therefore he wasn't out. Flip sake man he was either out or he wasn't.
I suspect if you had been in the crowd you would have joined the booing?
At the end of the day he wasn't out as the appeal was withdrawn.
I've never booed anyone in my life.

Bringing my cousins to the cinema today. Well, now it's just the one cousin, as my 11 year old cousin has just decided that she will not go to the cinema. Not at all.
I remember when I was younger, I used to love hanging out with my older cousins, still do actually. But she just is not like that. Ah well, at least the younger fella is still really looking forward to it.

Matt Prior's out - caught behind, nothing controversial! England 459 for 7. That's some score.

I thought the umpire was asking "Do you want to continue with the appeal?" There was an initial appeal, which lead to the 3rd umpire review. Then presumably the 3rd umpire talked to the on-field umpires because everyone knew that while it was technically out, it was one of those "Spirit of Cricket" grey areas.
Having said that, in all the cricket I've played it's been common practice to ask a fielder before leaving your crease, or even to just fetch a ball for the fielders after you've blocked it ("can I pick it up?" avoids a potential "Howzatt, handled ball" appeal).

My maths teacher was the only one who was unhappy with me. I refused to do Honours level maths for Leaving Cert. Teacher felt I could get a B in Honours. I told him that I had no use for maths and I'd just take an A in Ordinary Level maths which would free up my time for other subjects. Don't regret it for one second.

I've never seen that.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think it's an option you can choose in your profile settings or something Stag, so you are notified of a new post before you post your next one. I find it pretty useful sometimes.
Lucky - ha!not so sure on the special treatment! I never saw that message even before I was made a mod. But then, the boards weren't so busy then...who knows eh?

I was a mixed bag at school. I did well at the subjects I liked without really having to try and I didn't try at the subjects I didn't like because I didn't care about them.

I was one of those at school who very luckily found academic work pretty easy. Wasn't always a good thing though as I never really had to work too hard I got pretty lazy and very bored at school so never really put 100% effort in. So whilst my reports and things were good, there was always room for me to do better, I just couldn't be bothered.

There were a couple of girls in my year who were always top of the class not through natural ability, but because they worked harder than anyone else. Fair play to them, they're probably earning a hell of a lot more than I am!

I was good at maths and sciences but anything that required me to be creative, I couldn't really be bothered with. Which is why I'm pretty much black or white about things now. It took me 3 attempts to get an English O Level as I lost interest just over halfway through the 12 assignments we had to write.
In other news. My Dad survived his successful 9 hour operation on his left leg. Cement out, bone graft, growth hormone and plastic surgery.

Morning all. Munsty, hanging out with your cousins can be a great laugh. It depends on the age gap. Hanging out with the ones 10 years older than you can be good but the ones who are smallies can be a bit odd. What film are you going to see? A few kids films in at the moment though they are supposed to be awful.

Asbo, as you ask, the one that really made me
1978, age 9 "K has a quiet poise" Really? Where the Flip did I put it then?
Lucky, I was similar. I did well at the subjcts I knew I was good at and couldn't be bothered to try with the ones I was hopeless at. Physics, I'm looking at you!!!

Nottins, I was the other way 'round subject-wise. It took me three attempts to get the C in maths I needed to go on to university.

At least someone replied. The cousin that is actually going with me is 8. Big fella though. I remember what it was like when my older cousins spent time with me so that's why I'm trying to do it with these two.

Not really. Just can relate to what she's saying. The thumbs up emoticon does look a bit cheeky but no just saying I can relate.

I'm not Munsty. I really should have tried harder. I could have acheived so much more if only I'd just tried a bit more. School just taught me how to be lazy, which I'm pretty sure is one of the things it's definitely not meant to do!

Ah Rava, the 11plus these 'whippersnappers' probably don't have a clue what you're on about, did mine in 1972 !!
In junior school we also had our own exams and IQ tests. In my final set in got 4A's, an A- and an IQ of 148
As you saythough, all down hill from there

Agree. I would say I really am happy that I maybe eased off a little in 6th year. Arrogant as it may be I knew I have enough natural ability to get law and really eased off on the amount of work I was doing. Now I slipped a few grades but I became much more involved socially whereas up until then I was a bit quieter preferring the safety of a few choice friends.

Actually what school taught me was how to study the exam rather than the content. It was a valuable lesson.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I was top of my year in the mock maths exam. 93% I believe it was, beating the lad who got into Oxford just on his interview, was told he only needed to B's and a C in his A level, he ended up working in McDonalds after his short spell in an "institution" after not being able to cope with people being more intelligent than him.
Downhill since then though for me.

Good news about your Dad's op. What's the cement for? Was it something temporary before the bone graft?
Just asking because I've got a fair bit of titanium in my leg... a 125mm piece about the size of a shoe horn, 9 bolts and a thing they call a K-wire (more of a bloody thick U shaped bar if you ask me). The xray of my knee / upper leg looks like 'Jiminy Cricket' in silhouette!

The cement was to replace the titanium which hadn't helped in the 18 months it was in there. He's got plenty of titanium in the other 3 open fractures that he had. Not seen his scans as the hospital still hasn't provided them on optical media despite his continued asking to see them.
How did you damage your leg ?
