First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?
RedWine cider guinness Bubbly Ale appletini

ah did he really? Didn't catch that on the commentary, (the book was distracting me!) but that does sound unlucky. Just one of those things in cricket I guess.

I really thought with this series that Game of Thrones is part of, that I'd started reading it at the right time and that the last book (the 5th one) in the series had just been released. Found out yesterday there are actually 7 books in the series, and seeing as it took the author 6 years to get the 5th one done, I might be in for a very long wait for the other two!

Why did you think it was disappointing Prop? (although the epilogue I admit was fairly rubbish). I thought it was the best of all the Harry Potter films, and truest to the book as well.

Do PDV and Lievremont add to the colourful tapestry of test level rugby? Or do they belittle it?

I went to see the last Harry Potter film on Saturday. I haven't read any of the books nor seen any of the films, but my flatmate has and he didn't want to go on his own because he thought he'd look like a weirdo. It was actually a really good film. Daniel Radcliffe's not a great actor, though.

Understandable really. I'm confident that we can shake the monkey from our backs this year. I love watching Ireland v New Zealand even though we always lose. I don't know why I like it so much. I've never been to see us against France though. Hope to god we can win. Me and Musnty will have a long drive back to Limerick if its a loss.

I was at the Ireland v France game in croker the year of the grand slam, the Jamie Heaslip sidestep, magic!!!

But look at of from the last few years,

2011 (h) beaten by a couple
2010 (a) hammered including Flannery act of madness
2009 (h) win
2008 (a) can't remember
2007 (h) last minute madness to loose, I didn't say a word after that game for about 2 hours

2007 (wc) hammered something like 37-3

I don't know what it is about them and why we so often fail to beat them especially when our clubs have a fantastic success rate against French clubs at home and away

I don't know either Hughie. For me we have a mental block. I think we latch on too readily to the idea that they have flair we can't match, their players are more talented etc.

I've never really seen us go out and be the team on top. Even when we take the lead the idea is always that we are lucky to be ahead. NZ are the only other team I see our fans, commentators etc take this view with.

Against the kiwis its understandable where it comes from, but not with the French, they are the same players that year in year out Irish teams beat in the Heineken Cup, nobody wants to draw munster or Leinster because they are almost impossible to beat at home and you know your going to be in a fight when they visit.

Why can't this mentality be brought into the Irish Set up?

Beats me Hughie. We've had Gaffney and Kidney involved who both had experience beating the French away in the HEC Cup.

Maybe the gap is closing. Beat them in 2009, lost heavily in 2010, lost by one score in 2011. If we can win the test series against them this summer it would do wonders for us. Especially an away win. Bordeaux isn't a happy hunting ground for us Irish though.

Our last game there was against Georgia in 2007 Erm

You're right, Munsty. The good thing for India is that he didn't go on to make that many more runs.

India did nothing wrong at all yet they were booed back on to the field, which is disgraceful.

Shocked this is a disaster. Potentially going to the World Cup with Bennett (argh!), Burns (he's good but not proven), and Owens (15 mins of rugby since January at flanker!) as our hookers. rudey poo.

Technically he was out. But don't you think once the umpire gives a player(the bowler) back his jumper that the over is over ? Also, most of the Indian players were making their way off the pitch as well, so clearly they thought it was over as well.

Not that I agree with the booing but to be fair to the crowd, most would have thought it had gone for a 4 and wouldn't have understood why India were allowed to appeal (I doubt they all had those TMS radios!). I know when I was listening to it, even Aggers and co were sounding a bit outraged. So understandable (although horrible) reaction from the crowd. Very glad India decided to let Bell back in to bat despite his stupidity. The game would have been marred by it otherwise.

I know, tis horrible. Not great for Wales, and not great for the Scarlets either, depending on when Math Rees has his op. If he has it before and Owens goes to the world cup....we'll be left with 2 very, very young players to fill the void at Y Parc. Not saying they can't do it (we're lucky they got introduced last season) but it's a big, big ask for them.

Personally, allthough I really want to see Matthew Rees in the world cup, I think anything do with an injury in your back needs to be treated very seriously. I would rather he have the operation before to stop himself doing anymore damage to the disk. He'd be a huge loss to us, but health wise that would be best for him I think. Then again, this is his last chance at a world cup....I have a feeling he'll still go if he's able.

Except he isn't out as he came out to bat. Why didn't the player who took off the bails appeal for him being out ? It took the umpire to ask if he was appealing.

Stag, you are chirpy this morning. What did you have for brekkie?

I am quite chirpy. I had toast, eggs, tomato and sausage.

I think its because I know I'm leaving here. Also I booked a holiday last night. I really didn't think I'd get away anywhere. But me and herself are going from a Thursday to a Sunday which will be fine. Then start new job on Monday morning all recuperaterd. The week after next this will be.

In other news, my mum gave me my old school reports yesterday. She wondered if I wanted to keep them, which I have done. Hilarious!! Laugh

I think we should have some excerpts!!

Actually, my maths teacher was probably right. It wasn't that I was bad at maths, it would just take me a long time to work out a problem. I remember a lesson where the teacher in question wrote a problem on the board and asked me for the answer. I didn't want to look stupid taking ages to work it out, so I said to him, 'I don't know the answer, and you know I don't know the answer. You're the teacher, you tell me what the answer is!' The next morning the teacher taking assembly talked about insolence and he was looking at me the whole time. Crying or Very sad

nottins wrote:Except he isn't out as he came out to bat. Why didn't the player who took off the bails appeal for him being out ? It took the umpire to ask if he was appealing.

So what you are saying Nottins is that even though he was "technically out" it wasn't his fault he was out so therefore he wasn't out. Flip sake man he was either out or he wasn't.

I suspect if you had been in the crowd you would have joined the booing?
