The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Rugbydreamer I bought myself a guitar 10 years ago because I always wanted to play one, I got sietracked for nine years never learning how.
I had a serious illness in the last year and whilst in hospital reflected on all the things that were important to me, music being one of them.
When I came out I chatted to one of my cruiser mates and suggested we start jamming, every friday afternoon there is three of us having a grteat time, learning fast and my philosophy is, don't wait, you might never get time to do it

Cari wrote:I love music, and if I could I would've gone for a piano or a guitar but I could never access lessons or instruments to practice on. I had a go at drums once cause I used to go out with a drummer, and both my brothers are drummers, but I didn't do it properly.
Maybe think about getting a 2nd hand guitar? My brother did that and ended up teaching himself (there are some pretty good dvd's/books out there).
One of the biggest things I regret about being a teenager was giving up playing the piano. I absolutely love it, but I was just too darn lazy
I have a drum kit back home as well that I bought off a friend when we were leaving uni, but since graduating I've not ever lived somewhere that has enough space for it one day.....

brilliant philosophy
One of the reasons I haven't bought a ukulele yet is because I wasn't sure I'd have the discipline to stick to learning how to play it, am pretty determined to do it this year though

Jeez I wouldn't know where to start teaching myself. James Dean Bradfield (Manics) is a self taught guitarist though and he's amazing now. He learnt by listening to music and copying the chords and sounds.

Start by learning all the notes within the first five frets of the guitar, then learn how to construct chords.

Cari, Rugbydreamer, there is no such thing as can't do it or nothaving the disipline.
You don't need lessons either. The one guy that joins us can play quite well, we let him take the lead, I bought a book that shows you where the 7 major7 minor and 7 maj7 chords are. Those are your most common base chords.
You go to Guitar tabs where you can find the chords for almost all popular songs, you then buy the cd and listen to the song, and before you know you can play a few songs.
I have roughly 20 songs that we play every friday, I know a handful of them very well and as a group we are quite competent with the others.
Most songs only use 5 or 6 chords

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
well I shall be teaching myself the ukulele, and if I can manage to do that, you should definitely be able to teach yourself guitar! Tis a bit daunting mind, I haven't attempted to read music for years, I've probably forgotten a lot and I'll be for a lot of it.

Along those lines, I had a job interview on Friday, and when I was researching the company they had quotes in the page header, and one of the ones that caught my attention was: "When you really want to do something you’ll find a way - and when you don’t you’ll find an excuse." Trying to bear that in mind more and more now.

Evening all,
A bit tired after two days sightseeing. Going to the cinema tonight for a change of pace. I really hope I don't fall asleep.

Evening all - sorry I havent been around much recently - you know whats it lie running a multi million Lira organisation.
Enjoyed the Wales game on the weekend - I have stupidly high hopes for the WC.
A quick question for you all but is Falateua one of the smallest No8's ever - he looks like a winger to me.

I hope you aren't being serious about having high hopes for the RWC. I want to go in with as few hopes as possible to avoid any disappointment. Plus that way I'll be really happy with whatever success we have.....

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
from the guardian website:
"Johnson will also be taking this week off to enjoy a brief family break, though Mrs Johnson may struggle to relax with such a dark thundercloud hanging over the breakfast table. Was this a good time for a family holiday? "Not with me," replied Johnson, grimly"
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011/aug/14/england-wales-world-cup
Sounds like it'll be a fun holiday

The holiday was probably booked long before the Ireland match was arranged. I'm sure the coaching staff can continue to coach the skills out of the England players whilst he's away.

nah it is a bit odd Hughie, I'd have thought it would be an obvious no go time for a holiday.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I know he wont get much time away from the squad next month but surely his timing could have been a bit better.
I see the Ireland game now being a crucial match after the loss last Saturday and the boss being away in my opinion sends out the wrong signals.

Are you serious? That just seems like a major oversight. Pretty sure every other team is in camp together from this point in.
I'm sure MJ is a bit annoyed, because it looked like England had some work to do on a lot of aspects of their game.

Glas, don't tell me mun, tell Johnno.
Hughie, it is a phooking ridiculous decision, as is not having a game this weekend, then announcing the squad on Monday before playing Ireland the following weekend and losing 5 players from the squad through injury, as is bound to happen!!!
