Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of great current props' pictures on the bar. We've got Castrogiovanni, Hika Reid, The Beast, Colin Windon, the Franks brothers, Mas, Tonga'uiha, Roncero, Cian Healey (as demanded by Hughie), Stevens, Murray, Mike Ross, Adam Jones and Steenkamp all in action. Graffiti's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Appalling. Couldn't get to sleep at all so I'm watching this in a semi dazed state. Decent start from the welsh. Living on the offside line when Fiji have the ball and I'm not sure why, their backs aren't that dangerous?

Equally appalling. It almost as though these boys want the headlines and controversy. No common sense at all.

To be fair, that is a nothing story. Lads in hotel have some banter with female staff member who takes it the wrong way. I say they should hang for such a serious crime.
Roll on the quarter finals.
Morning all
Wales exorcising the ghosts of Fiji past I see. This tournament has been a real coming of age for Rhys Priestland.

What Brand Haskell is supposed to have said is very idiotic. If I said that in my job I'd be in a fair bit of trouble.

It maybe a nothing story but that doesn't excuse the fact that the story is there. The England team surely know beforehand how under the microscope they'll be, not just in terms of their performance on the pitch but equally and perhaps more their antics off it. The media will pounce on failure and scandal as quickly as they will for a convincing victory. That's the world we live in regrettably. Why give them the chance?

Likewise if I said it to a female member of staff in my office Rev, but the point is, it wasn't said in either of those environments/contexts. It was a bit of banter on a rugby tour. Do people honestly think that no other rugby team, international or otherwise, have made sexual innuendos to female hotel staff.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think England are constantly under media scrutiny and the most minor things can be blown out of proportion. I had even read a story online slagging English players for going bungee jumping instead of training. They can't win really. However, players must also have good awareness of that and watch themselves. I'd say that for any team though. What you do off the pitch is just as important these days.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
so blydi happy with that, really happy.
Lots of mistakes thing that we need to work on but we were clinical and ruthless and our support play was excellent.
Only downer was the Doc going off injured, really hope his shoulder is okay.
Pete - agree with you on Priestland. I confess even as a Scarlets fan I had my doubts that he would be ready this soon (I was thinking more next season) but I am more than happy he's proved my doubts wrong. Think he's playing brilliantly.

Morning all. I told you Wales would have no trouble with Fiji .
"I had even read a story online slagging English players for going bungee jumping instead of training. They can't win really."
Some of the Irish players did the same bungee jump. But Ireland must have a North Korean attitude to the media (i.e. total lockdown), because one of the Irish players did the jump naked.
That one didn't hit the headlines. Imagine if an English player did that.

Blimey Hound, the press would have had a field day!
I think the Welsh camp have benefitted the lack of media coverage they've been getting, it's great for them to get out of the goldfishbowl of the Welsh press. It's the shame England can't escape it out in NZ though.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It is a shame dreamer. But the bigger shame is people going looking for any stick with which to beat England.
They don't do it to anyone else it seems.
Anyway, I bet that Irish player got a shock at the bottom of the jump, when his balls whistled past his eyes

ha I know but seriously 10/10 in kicks and the interviewer asks: is there a problem with the ball?
Hound - England do get unfairly treated in the press but often it's by the English press themselves, they just seem to love building people/a team up to then just slate them.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
You see what I mean Cari. No one got on Ireland's case for doing the same stuff England were doing.
I rest my case.
I would have a guess at which player it was, but to his credit the England player who mentioned the 'event' in a diary column didn't name him. Probably because he knew such publicity might be detrimental to all involved.

That was my point earlier Harrow. The media scrutiny of England is more intense than other nations it seems. Although I bet the All Blacks are getting the same at home.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
dreamer, the bungee jumping stuff was all over the Antipodean press as well. It's not just the English press, though they are the worst of the lot. Selling papers is what the do, and by publishing stuff and sensationalising things with lurid (and often inaccurate) headlines.

Make the most of it Gibbo, come the end of the week you'll be arguing amongst yourselves about who should start - ROG or Sexytoes....neither are a match for Wellies and Priestland anyway...so it's a pointless arguement really.

Jeez, I'd say I'd better stay clear of here
Well, before all the silly games start I can say Wales have had a brilliant World Cup so far and whatever the result is next week that won't have changed. Nor for us. Now that that's over...
Nah, they have been good though. They are playing as well as I've seen them since they last won the Slam. You could say the same thing about Ireland. We and the neutrals should be in for a rugby treat.
I've got to be honest... I'm taking a lot of satisfaction in that result after Nick Malletts comments. A lot of talk, but our team took it to heart.
