Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of great current props' pictures on the bar. We've got Castrogiovanni, Hika Reid, The Beast, Colin Windon, the Franks brothers, Mas, Tonga'uiha, Roncero, Cian Healey (as demanded by Hughie), Stevens, Murray, Mike Ross, Adam Jones and Steenkamp all in action. Graffiti's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Notch, I had thought Australia was your final and that you would drift, you weren't drifting today. Italy have ruffled you the last two times and you let that stand for nothing. As Dreamer says, as long as you don't kill each other over selection issues...
May the best team win, and there be no reffing controversy.

I just hope we have nice weather next week.Wales are far more physical now than they were six months ago and because of that I'm quietly confident we will do well next Saturday..
PS I hope that the shorter turnaround is not used as a excuse next week.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Same turnaround for both teams. Ireland arguably had the more physically demanding game but that's just the luck of the draw. Can't be used as an excuse but I'm sure someone will pull out that old chestnut either way.

Just finished watching in time lapse!
Well done Wales. Haven't seen your match yet but checked the score first thing!
Well done my lads too.
Any news on Rory Best? Didn't sound too good.

Oh, ok. Well hopefully not.
See England players are hitting the headlines again. James Haskell, Dylan Hartley and Chris Ashton made some lewd remarks to a female hotel worker leaving her very upset. In a seperate incident Ashton then did a swan dive onto a puppy, killing it almost instantly. Shocking stuff.

That's a misreporting Notch, Ashton actually failed to connect with the puppy due to the Irish back row laying all over it, although apparently Bryce Lawrence did mysteriously appear and penalise Ashton for going off his feet.

Last time England played Wales they lost but they beat Ireland so the logical answer would be Ireland.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
That's a tough question MrsP. I would tend to fancy us more against the Welsh than the Irish to be honest, but that is mainly based on recent history, which to be honest I think would be largely irrelevant.
Truth of the matter is, unless we raise our game massively in terms of our efficiency at the breakdown and threat with ball in hand, and wouldn't see us beating either Wales or Ireland in the semi final, so it's a bit of a moot point.
Also, although I do fancy us against the French, I am counting no chickens just yet, as Les Bleus could just as easily come out firing and blow us away in the quarters.
I think we have an absolutely cracking 8 matches left in this tournament in any case.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I would not like to be a Mod this week! Think we can beat Wales, lineout and scrum to be targetted. Wales have Faletau as their main backrow carrier. We have three guys that could be crucial. As soon as "bread of Seven" gets hit by 1F or Sean O'brien he won't want to know about it.

Pete- I can't see France going far in this World Cup. They seem to be falling apart off the pitch!

There seems to be problems with how together they are as a group.

Everyone does seem pretty jovial today dreamer, which if it stays that way will be grand.
I suspect later in the week we may see a bit more stuff that needs modding, but I think a quiet word via PM will hopefully be enough, am getting bored of having to hit the ban button now.

More often than not it's not the fans of the of the two sides playing that cause problems it's the snide remarks from outsiders that light the fuse.

You are not wrong there Cymro.
MrsP, I've issued temp bans to 2 posters in the past 24 hours and a perm ban to one a couple of days ago.
Generally we try not to ban people if we can help it, but if people fail to heed advice then they have to go.
Dreamer, Pete is fine

I think France drop to 8th in the rankings, with Tonga possibly up to 9th above Scotland. Not 100% on that though.

Just saw Nick Malletts post-match interview. Fair play to him. He was very magnanimous- I wish him well now, whatever he goes on to do. That first ever win against France will be his legacy, and maybe better times for Italy ahead as well.

France are the dictionary definition of 'enigma'. England go into the game as heavy favourites but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if the French pulled a performance from their behinds.

Newsflash:
After topping their pool with a hard fought but ultimately comfortable win over Italy, Ireland go into their quarter final on Saturday as clear favourites with the bookies. "Ireland's form is peaking at the right time" said a PaddyPower representative "they have a good record recently over Wales in international and club competitions, indeed the only blips are the '08 triple crown and grand slam decider and the controversial Welsh win at Cardiff this year". Asked if 10:1 on was a bit extreme, he went on to say "no, the next game is a formality for us, I mean Ireland. We, I mean they showed in the Heineken Cup final that the favourite tag is no longer the monkey it used to be on our backs". Other markets offered by PaddyPower:
1 Heaslip to score first try 2:1
2 BOD not needing magic sponge until the second half 5:1
3 Declan Kidney saying something interesting 100:1
