First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of pub regulars. We've got the big group pic from the HEC final in Cardiff, plus insets of ll those who couldn't make it

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Fecking hell mun. We've left like at least 12-15 points out there. Gutted.

Proud of the Dragons lads though.

They've all been amazing. Really proud of them and really annoyed that we lost in the way we did. I'm not disagreeing with the red card for Warburton (slightly harsh maybe) but we definitely did not lose to a better team Hug for all of them.

Think I'll stay off the boards now. Obviously a big split over the card and a few wums getting their kicks now. Few drinks down Rodney Parade will ease the pain.

This site is getting out of hand for wums now. Good luck sorting this pile of Poopie out Mods.

But you wouldn't be arguing with us or the referee, you'd be arguing with the IRB. Their will be a lot of people slagging off the ref but he's done his job well there. You might want to write a letter of complaint to Paddy O'Brien Smile

Kind of disappointed, because we have a side who are pretty damn near average in the World Cup Final. Les imposteurs. I wish I was watching a France side that could play because thats one of the most beautiful sights on World Rugby; instead we have this shower. Lievremont needs to pull his mustachioed head out of his arse and install Francois Trinh-Duc at outhlaf with Parra at 9 post-haste.

And ITV are incredibly ignorant in their reporting. They don't know the laws of the game, it's as simple as that. They fall short of the minimum expected level of sports punditry.

I feel Wales had three great chances to win it with drop goals and a penalty and failed to take them. Luck of the French, that. A very lucky French side...

Sorry if this isn't the right time but does no-one in Wales know of the drop goal? 20 phases and not once does someone drop into the pocket? Hit the drop goal, walk off the field, goodnight Vienna.

Friday's game will be very difficult to play in, it's not where you want to be. It'll be interesting to see the opposition as well, could it end up as the 'final' we hoped to see?

You have to be in the correct position for a drop goal and I don't think Stephen was ever quite there unfortunately.

Prop without wanting to rile you check Notch's earlier post. Almost certainly a red according to that definition. Wales can be incredibly proud. To win the second half a man down, your captain down is no mean feet. France are comically awful. Wales for all their endeavour really deserved that. Does the red suspend him from the 3rd place playoff?

Hey everyone. coffee

What a wonderful morning at the MS. Fantastic atmosphere...I actually wept when they sang the anthem. When Phillips scored I thought the place would explode!

As for he match...well, I'm not going to harp on about things - it'll be done to death outside...there's a lot of "if only's" in there for sure. I was gutted to see Adam J. come off so early, and I did think Sam's red was harsh, but that was the ref's decision. I thought the boys did well considering their captain was sent off early on. On the whole, I think Wales have had a fantastic tournament, and I for one am very very proud of the way they've conducted themselves on and off the pitch. It's been great to see so many youngsters progress so much during the tournament, and the old heads can be proud that they took part in this team Smile

Well done France by the way. look forward to seeing who'll be taking you on next week.

Hard luck Wales. The opportunities were there to win it. Great tournament and can still come 3rd. Be proud. Be very proud.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say France are going to win this RWC. No matter who they meet in the Final.

They are there now and have an extra days rest. That's huge at this level. Also, they cant play worse than that in the Final. I expect a huge performance from them.

Roland right or not (and he was right) you shouldn't put him in the position to make the call. They turned to Hook for leadership and he was found wanting. It was no surprise that Stevo turned the game, fair enough start a runner, but there is nothing which stops you changing tack in the first half. If it were boxing we'd have won on points (with one hand tied) but it's not and missed kicks, no matter how close kill you. I can't congratulate France because I can't think of something to say although I obviously wish them all the best. We have a chance to redeem something if our kids go out and take on a SH giant. You won't hear from me for a bit.

Good post Glas. A final victory on Friday would be what this team deserves, I feel. I cant find much good to say about France either, except outside the front five they were crap. William Servant and Lionel Nallet are awesome players but this Parra at 10 thing is a disaster and they look pretty disorganised and scrappy.

Have to say though, they had some awesome aggressive defence at the end to make the DG exceptionally difficult for Wales.

I think it's a great post really, because it's always difficult to take the 1 point defeats. The Welsh contingent in here deserve some credit for their graciousness in defeat.

Problem with that is, it doesn't make you feel better! But a lot to be proud of all the same.

Hard luck to Wales you had the beating of a weak French side whk.I think will suffer a heavy defeat in final. On warburton for me this was cut and dry red card. I fail to see why there is a discussion. Warburton turned him beyond the horizontal and lost control of him. The Frenchman fell to ground laning on his head neck shoulders area.

Cry It's hard to swallow but the red was a red, however I wish that the refs could have more discretion in this type of incident..... we had enough chances to get over it and win that game... so sad and so proud, a bit biased I suppose but I feel the final is going to be devalued without Wales in there. I hope France can find some real decent form to make the final a fit and proper test. Cry

Afternoon,
Just back from delivering a meal,so didn't see the match.I heard ML saying' it was the "ugliest" semi final ever, but you have to win them in any way you can to get a chance of being World champions'(rough translation)

As I said a few days back, France rarely string together two top quality matches, so for them winning this one playing badly, is a success.

hard luck on Wales, who, apparently, should have sealed it, but the French defence was irreproachable, and after 23 phases at the end, never gave away a penalty or drop chance.defence has been their strong point;French Flair has flown.

Just been talking with my son who is a football fan, He said that there is no way Rolland would have been allowed to ref a football international between Wales and France or any matches involving France,,, Is he right ?

I) No way am I suggesting that Rolland is biased I'm just interested in knowing if it's true or not.

2) Yes I know he is a rugby referee.

I think that referees who are fluent in both English and French are at a premium in World Rugby; when you have a top ref who has that going for him it's foolish not to use him. Most of the time it will be a better game if both sides understand the refs interpretations.

Rolland was born in Ireland, grew up in Ireland, played for Ireland and now lives and works in Ireland so it's a bit unfair to keep suggesting bias on his part.

Agree with Stag, not enough refs from other countries as compared to football. However and with no hint of suggesting bias by Rolland, having a ref with any sort of link to a country involved does open the door to accusation, and I think this could have been avoided. This is one area where professionalism in Rugby has not been adopted. BTW this is not a new thing either... I remember thinking the same thing in the 2007 RWC

No, I think the IRB should endeavour to have referees who can converse with players in their own language whenever possible. Unfortunately the pool of referees is mainly concentrated in English-speaking countries. But if there was a referee who was good enough to ref at that level and spoke fluent Italian/Russian/Japanese or whatever then he should get the job reffing those sides.

Perhaps along the same lines as eligibility of playing for countries of heritage and residence?

What I think is silly is that the IRB are allowing this type of controversy to rear it's ugly head when there is no need for it.... for the record Owens should not have been officiating in a group game that involved Welsh opponents, etc etc

I'll now go and have a look at the other thread you've pointed to!

PS.... I'm all for multi lingual refs....

Managed it in the other games just like all the other captains have had to do and many of them would speak far less English than the French.
I'm not suggesting that he was biased but compared to football our refs are still selected as if we were playing in the amature era.

The French have this attitude that everybody must speak French they have been reluctant to do any interviews during this world cup unless they were done in French.
If we are going to use a language then let's use the same language with everybody,,, There is nobody more Welsh than I am but it does annoy me that Nigel Owens will use Welsh when speaking with Welsh players.
