The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the team photos of the World Cup finalists. Or the action shots (put up especially for Cari) of McCaw, Kahui and Corey Jane.
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Well done to the All Blacks! Chuffed for them...shame about the poor refereeing cause that will overshadow their win somewhat.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Fair play NZ, so many times they have lost when the cup should have been theirs. They shook, they creaked, they made mistakes but they kept going. Clinical is not the word - because they weren't! I don't know determined perhaps. They won with an effort of will. The uncomfortable truth for us is that ONLY France from the NH could have competed there today. France gave them a game, that's all we asked for.
What a final though. 2 tries a conversion and a penalty, but that doesn't say the story of massive collisions, defence and a break from Trinh-Duc which had nothing to do with coaching. INTENSE is the word. What a World Cup. Well done NZ, look out 2015!

Got to say fair play to NZ as well. Down to their 4th choice 10 and playing the last portion of the game with a scrum half who should be playing AIL rugby.

Yeah over the 24 year wait, they deserve the rub of the Green. They have given us some great rugby over the years,. Today they hung on by the skin of their teeth.
Huge kudos to France.

Great game, fitting of a final.
Hard luck to France, they really showed their true selves today. Well played the AB's, we know they can play, and today they showed they can dig in as well and ground out the win.

No mention of France at all. Fair play to focus on NZ but France made this a great final. Poor effort by McCaw and Henry not even mentioning them.

To be fair to McCaw I think he was pretty speechless.
I don't see how the French can look so miserable. They've done well to be runners up.

I hate the way there is already a thread on here blaming Joubert for France losing. It is a trend in the game that I really do not like. He had a poor game, but even so France had opportunities to win it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I said that early on Pete - if the All Blacks won some would say they cheated a win by being helped by the ref. I'm just hapy for them because it means so much to them at the moment, given the year the country has had.
The Kiwi fella who lives across the road from me has a huge All Blacks flag draped over this house and he's just let off some fireworks

Thank god they'e cut off Hayley's wailing. Seems a rather depressing song to sing at a celebration.

Agree Pete. its sad. Ok during the game.. but let it go FFS.
NZ World Champs. Its done and dusted.
I think... had they lost it.. a few would be bungee-jumping without the rope.

Yes Ozzy, but this is no longer an amateur game. The players are professional, the top refs are, but the administrators behave like some community council. I think it is legitimate to make noises off as otherwise it will never change. However now is not the time and place. Don't get me wrong if you read back you will see some choice posts from yours truly, however it's now time to congratulate both teams for a fantastic spectacle.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Glas, I know he was poor, and the standard of refereeing needs improving, my gripe is that people want to discuss Joubert more than they want to discuss the game and the players now. There are already people on that thread claiming match fixing, it's a nonsense.

I wasn't there Glas, and didn't see it on tv. Sounded like a belter, with performances from the youngsters on both sides.

Prynhawn da pawb / good afternoon all (just!).
Hound, I'd second that, it was a great game of rugby to watch, two teams looking to play rather than spoil.
Not one Frenchman had a bad game tonight (even Damien Traille didn't embarrass himself). The French back row were immense - Julien Bonnaire has played as well as I've ever seen him play these last few weeks. Mas and Servat everywhere and carried so strongly. Trinh-Duc excellent as usual. Their country can be proud of every single one of them.

Lucky - completely agree, with all of that. A huge performance by the French, and Mermoz most definitely had his best game for them.
Just seen the news about a Moto GP rider having died in a crash today. Horrible couple of weeks for motorsport

Well done NZ.
MrP somewhat relieved at the result.
He was cheering for France and I told him he was sleeping in the barn if they won!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Hiya all, just back home again now.
I can't believe my Mum (a Kiwi) used the 'f' word with 10 mins to go.
Impossible to watch that match with her! My brother and I were less on edge... but only by a factor of about x 500.
Anyway, I'm glad the ABs won. Commiserations to France, they played very well tonight - it would have been nice if somebody had at least said a good word about them in the post match interviews... that was pretty poor I thought.
Also, did someone call Thierry Dusatoir "Henry" by mistake.... (twice!) during the on field interview post match?

Hi all just back from my game. Ironically I had to deal with a tip tackle that caused a mild injury. Controversially I went yellow
