The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the team photos of the World Cup finalists. Or the action shots (put up especially for Cari) of McCaw, Kahui and Corey Jane.
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Glas, in fairness, other sides - maybe even previous All Blacks sides - would have succumbed to the pressure France were putting on them in the second half yesterday. It was the withstanding of that pressure, rather than buckling / choking / however you want to put it, that must have pleased New Zealanders just as much as the winning of the Cup.

Hmm. I think some of the journos out there in meedja land may follow the pub.
One practically verbatim comment I read this morning in relation to the final was 's from yesterday. "Best team won the tournament, but the best team did not win the final."
There were other comments that I felt 'I read that in the pub earlier'

Harrow - could it be the other way round and posters borrowing quotes from the media? Still, I wouldn't be surprised if they did borrow stuff from this forum. A journos job is a lot easier these days what with Twitter, Facebook etc. A lot of stories I read these days seem to be based on a picture or comment posted on the internet by someone well known.

Morning all, who's hidden the ibuprofen?
Glas, IMO the idea of 'the monkey is off the back' is more to do with utter relief - if we couldn't win the thing this time, at home, we might never win it rather than 'we'll always win it'.

Morning all.
I was so drunk on Saturday that I slept though to 11am yesterday (unheard of) and missed the final. I’ve got the highlights recorded though so I’ll have a look tonight. Congratulations to Kiwi, I knew they’d do it, but I knew it wouldn’t be a walkover. World champs mate, that must feel good!

Mick,
Good tip on the lucozade Prop, I've already hit the Berocca, plus this morning work had been given a load of Innocent smoothies. Rehydration is proceeding.
I spent the whole of last week saying the French were due a performance and that I was horribly nervous - I was dead right!
I recorded the game at home (I went over to a mate's place to watch the match, and then we hit their local after), though I don't think I can face the tension and watch it again for a few days. Hence I'm staying right out of the referee debates outside, in the heat of the moment the only "mistakes" I noticed on Sunday were in France's favour

Kiwi, Joubert was poor by his own standards and in the first half definitely only seemed to be refereeing France at the breakdown. That said, he didn't effect the result, and all the rubbish about him cheating or the game being fixed that is written outside on the board is just utter nonsense quite frankly.

I understand that, hence the distinction between you and your mates. I'm chuffed for you Kiwi. Any comments I make about Joubert are not designed to diminish that in any way!

Speaking of Joubert, does anyone else think it's a disgrace that he was given the final? He's obviously of French descent and he was so keen to avoid allegations of favouritism towards France that he went the other way and favoured the All Blacks. FACT.

George Hook has infuriated me for many seasons as an RTE pundit but sometimes comes up with a statement that makes me laugh out loud. Yesterday after the game he came up with: -
"France is my mistress - New Zealand is at home in the kitchen doing the dishes"

I was in a nightclub queue when two blokes in front of me started arguing.
One guy pushed the other and said, "Four, nine."
The other man pushed him back and said, "Sixteen, twenty-five."
A bouncer reached for his walkie-talkie and said, "I need some help at the door. We've got a couple of men squaring up."

I'll just say it to my brother. Broke students need a dig out.

Staggy - give it to someone who appreciates rugby the most - obviously your pal is otherwise engaged on his weekend away, but if there's anyone who'd really enjoy some good rugby give it to them

True story from Sat night Stag...
Went to the pub with my Moldovan friend - and I have never been served so quickly at the bar... by another hottie barmaid who was all smiles.
We were sitting outside in this courtyard - when she tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to the big screen - RWC Final 2003.
Great night, lots of Irish, English lads all sitting at this long table with us... and 2 lovely Polish girls. Some jolly banter all round. If/when you guys come over here I'll take you there.

I certainly will Linebreaker. We have our first scouting tour in March - my boss and another company director will be headed out there. I'll be doing the second site visit. More than likely we're gonna do Hong Kong, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
