First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of newly crowned IRB World Player of the year Thierry Dusautoir.

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Hobo I have to say Id just have rathered it was done right from the start. There was no logic ti many choices and most people were unimpressed. Youve had to go and add several new names on post publication. Even Ozzy was unimpressed by it. Id have expected better from the official 606 team if youd have done it properly you could have justified your choices when challenged.

Stag - in a perfect world, I would agree.

We had a lot of categories to draw up and all of the mods and admin teams were asked to put forward nominees. Unfortunately, the rugby mods have been very busy with out of 606v2 activities.

RD did get some of the original names removed and added a few other suggestions.

The nominee list had been up for over a week and no one came up with other suggestions in that time (other than dreamer).

Not ideal but that was unfortunately the situation.

Next year, we will be more organised - you have to remember that we all do this in our spare time and are doing our utmost to make this place a success. This is just another idea to try and generate publicity for the site and has received a lot of backlash (not just from rugby) on the nominations.

The logistics behind trying to coordinate this and the other things on the go is massive - and sometimes I personally feel that for every good intention that I try and put forward, there is always half a dozen people who are ready and willing to start shouting down the efforts of the team.

Morning all.

Watched the football last night, god I love a bandwagon. It’s all good, we might play anti-football (according to Gibbo) but it doesn’t really matter to us. As much as I prefer rugby you can’t argue with the way the country gets all worked up about a big football tournament. The place will be buzzing.

Oh Glas, my comment last night about f – Schillaci is from the movie “the van”, have you ever seen it? it’s part of the Barrytown trilogy which includes the Snapper and the Commitments, it’s set during the world cup in 1990 and after we get knocked out the main character wears a “f**k Schillaci” t-shirt. It just reminds me of the football bandwagon.

A constructive suggestion: ask posters to PM three nominations to you for say a week in advance. Use those then to inform your lists.

Must be lots of hooking and slicing on their fairways. They need to relax the shoulders more. Whistle

I can appreciate that Hobo and I think the 606V2 team has done great stuff but just feel that this effort fell way short. The team picked a list of players based on . . .I don't know what exactly. Was it club and international form combined or just international? Was it Jan 2011-now or just the Rugby World Cup? There was no definite criteria used.

That meant that when the choices were questioned you were unable to justify them. You removed some names, added about a half dozen others and even still I'm confused. Ben Youngs? Jamie Roberts? Brian Habana? Dannie Roussow? I just don't see the reasoning behind them. Having to go back and change so many names since publishing your original list was a pity. There were six players nominated for IRB player of the year. Only one of them made your original list. European Player of the Year was Sean O'Brien - he didn't make the list. SA player of the year was Schalk Burger he didn't make the list. Australia won the Tri Nations and the Reds won the Super 15 in 2011. Yet only 1 Aussie is on your list compared to 3 South Africans.

As I said I appreicate all you've done for the site but this could have been done so much better. Its all just constructive criticism kiss I understand that only Dreamer gave input to the original list but then why publish it so soon? This should have had several choices you were all happy with and prepared to justify if necessary.

One final comment - the list was up for nearly two weeks and there were no observations from the other rugby mods so we had to assume they were good to go. Dont want to dwell on it - just get voting!

I've made my vote already and said why and got into a debate with another poster regarding it. In that regarding the 606 Award served its purpose. I just recommend that it be done properly next time.

Question for today - does anyone here collect anything? I've a friend who collects postcards I always have to buy her a postcard if I go abroad. She has quite a collection.

Hobo, nice one. I think even if a favourite player hasn't made it on to the list, it behoves us all to vote - it can only help raise the profile of v2 which has knock on benefits for us all OK

The mods? - universally rubbish!! Wink Just kidding - think the rugby site is pretty quiet tbh, don't see much intervention or need for it from the mods, and when it's done, they seem to do it with an even-hand (altho I'm sure there's a lot more going on behind the scenes). Plus there's a fair bit of self-modding going on too, with other posters happy to stick their heads above the parapet to stop the WUMS OK

Really Willy? Thats a pity. Hopefully Mallinder gets the job and Saints collapse to Munster in final HEC round Smile

Just seen that Willy.

I honestly think this could be a good thing for England, as long as the RFU get the right man in post to succeed him.

- Kirwan
- Mallet
- Mallinder
- O'Shea
- Cockerill

Johnson was on the right track (first 6N title in how long?) and has been badly let down by the unprofessional and self centred men around him, both in the squad and the RFU boardroom.

Maybe becoming the England manager was a gamble, but he did well. Rugby needs more like him.

Of that list Mallinder or O'Shea Stag.

Rightly or wrongly I would not like to see someone with no link to rugby in this country charge of England. I personally think it should be an Englishman, or somebody who has reasonably strong ties to the game in this country, hence not having a problem with O'Shea. I would also consider Brendon Ventor. I know he is not everyone's cup of tea, but he is a winner and a strong character which I think is going to be essential with some of the egos current involved in the England set up, both on and off the field.

Cockerill for me is a no, as I think he still has a lot to prove as a coach.

I think Conor O'Shea is the guy to go for.

I thin England would have been better served sacking Rob Andrew.

Think he might struggle with the media commitments?! But press conferences would be entertaining tho Laugh
