The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Chris Paterson, Steve Thompson and Jonny Wilkinson above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

I suspect he won't get banned. The WRU are in charge of it and he has 2 must win HEC matches and a 6 Nations ahead of him. Similar to the severe ban handed out to John Hayes a few years ago by IRFU ended just perfectly for the 6 Nations.
Interesting. Definitely not bringing the tacklee safely to ground imo.

Why has there been so much talk about it if he hasn't been cited. I thought he had been. Thats how I knew about the incident.
It is definitely not as straight forward as you are claiming though Cymro.

The only talk I have seen is the stuff on here regarding the Western Mail.

It is quiet. Popped in a couple of times and nobody was in here. Must have been the latest Irish selection debate scaring people away/wearing people out.

Evening all
How is everyone?
Feels like I rarely get in here these days, life's a bit of a blur right now. So much going on that finding the time to pop in is not easy, but can't complain, I'd be very bored if I wasn't busy.

And I'm really good ta, just off to have a "spring clean" of all my stuff. THe amount of rubbish I've accumlated over the last year or so living in the flat is ludicrous, am running out of space!

Personally I find 2011 World XVs to be a waste. People rarely take into account stuff that happened in February or March as being relevant.

I can't even remember who the player of the Six Nations was to be honest.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It was Andrea Masi, Notch. A political decision if ever I've seen it. Or more accurately a marketing decision. Everyone loves the underdog and it reinforces the idea that anyone can beat anyone. Masi had a good tournament but there were people who did much better than he.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Was the tournament last year the one where Ashton scored all the tries? Or was that 2010?
The more I think about it the more I think it might have been this year. Italy beat France though! And Ireland beat England. Those are the two games I actually remember, I remember very little else. I think those were the two games that didn't suck.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The reason you remember none of it is that its a shoite tournament!!
As per usual:
- Ireland beat England
- England beat France
- France beat Ireland
- Italy were good at home and bad away
- Wales and Ireland was a tight match
- Scotland flattered to deceive
It could have genuinely been any year.

He's right. It was just so... generic. Apart from the Italy game, Nick Mallett crying postmatch, Lievremont's lost plot beginning to unfold. That was great. I loved that.
Mrs Penfro, Irelands is announced on January 15th. But aren't you excited about the last two rounds of the group stage in the HC?

I have no answer to that. One of worst thing thats happened for Ireland is Wallace's injury; not because of the value him getting gametime, but Spence was looking like the only 13 with the credentials to be a breakthrough star. We all know he doesn't have the goods at 12 though, and since Wallace has been out almost the whole season including the World Cup that's the only place we've seen him. Takes him out of the running.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
That's the thing about the 6 nations, just when you think you know what's going to happen it chucks up a surprise. Apart from a Wales Grand Slam, I think a championship where 5 teams can win it on the last match would be great. And it doesn't really matter who you lose to, there are no dead rubbers. I have a feeling Wales are going to do well this year.

Liam Williams, Jordan Turner Hall and Fergus McFadden are interesting calls. Possibly none of them will start for their teams.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Good evening all...
The 100th Test match at the SCG begins today. A fair bit of hype from both sides. India last won here in 1978 so they'll be desperate to win this one and level the Series 1-1.
Interesting piece of Trivia - Australia won the infamous "Bollyline" (the Indian's call it "Sydneygate") by 122 runs. Last week, we won the 1st Test at the MCG... by 122 runs.
The Heart of Sydney:

Ten Memorable Tests:

May the best team win and I hope Sachin comes close to his 52nd Test ton (or 100th international ton if you look at it that way).
There's a lot of emotion riding on his performance. Especially with the 60,000 Indians living here and the billion or so others around the world who'll watch every ball bowled.
There's a Live match thread if anyone's interested. I'm going out on Day 4 (hope it lasts until then) so I'll do a Match report then.

Stag,
Time for Gibbo to man-up. Sorry about the Kidney convo dudder nite. It was the Skaawtch whisky talkin. Had it bein the real stuff...
Ya know when ya think yer bein funny, and sheet? Well, I just read it back... Man. That 12 Year old Chivas Regal is a real lyin bitch.
Ah well, you know me well enough by now pal. Just thought Id straighten that one out bud. Much respect.
I hope and pray Deccie takes this team to where it belongs. Into the top 3 - on merit. We are getting there and I'm backing him to finish the job and to beat the AB's, for the 1st time ever, this Summer.
But, I still reserve the right to constructively criticise him when he deserves it.
Sorted.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
No probs Gibbo. To be honest, I won't be too sorry when Kidney moves on. Alan Gaffney was terrible but Kidney picked his pal to be backs coach.
Kidney knows his limits he isn't a coach but a great man manager, judge of character and has always done well at picking shrewd teams and surrounding himself with the right people.
His team selections have often left a lot to be desired and he make a mistake with Gaffney. He did dramatically increase the pool of players who got a look in with selection though, something he isn't credited with.
I think small parochial countries like Ireland (and Wales) are often better with foreign coaches bringing in fresh ideas and no old loyalties that can be thrown in their face causing unrest amongst the fans.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Couldnt have put it better myself. Agree with all of that. But, in fairness, had we beaten Wales, all this convo would be guff now. If he beats the AB's I'll bow to the man. Lets back him and see how he learns from his mistakes and alters things. All great managers do. And he is the best man-manager there is.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I suspect anyone clambering to see massive change in the 6 Nations is going to be disappointed. I expect to see our Summer Tour 2012 as being the big area of change. There will be minimal change for the Autumn Internationals in 2012 and big big changes during the Lions Tour as is normal with players missing.
After the Lions it will be all RWC 2015 related but for now its gonna be minimal change. People will howl and roar this Spring but its the Summer Tour that we judge him on IMO.
Also I see Gert Smal is in contention to be the South Africa head coach.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yup. Few changes for the 6-N. Ryan ahead of Cullen to replace DOC. For sure.
Need to see Murray and Sexton as nailed-on starters and let them grow together. Be good to see Fitz back again. He's earned it. Got his head down, went silent on the media-front and he's a new improved Lukey. Doing all the simple things brilliantly again. Less over-pushed flash. More controlled in every movement, better decision-making and excellent in defence.
Thats all part of becoming a real pro. Experiences - good and bad, and how you handle them takes you to a higher level or not. It has to be in you.
Just like life eh?

Exactly. Anywho I must hit the leaba. Oiche mhaith a chairde. Back to work tomorrow. Gonna be up the walls. Heading out to Toulouse on Friday week, then Milton Keynes the week after. A week of rest before the Wales v Ireland meet up and then out to Paris for our usual defeat to France. Much preparation to do.
