The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Chris Paterson, Steve Thompson and Jonny Wilkinson above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Bore da pawb / good morning all. This time tomorrow I'll be at my desk - but this morning I'm in my dressing gown drinking tea and determined to stretch out this lazy morning as far as I can.
I haven't been in here at all over Christmas / New Year, but I hope everyone had a good, restful and merry time of it.

Hi Asbo, Lucky - hope you are both having a good break.
The storms sound quite rude. Wild times in the West from the sounds of things!
Pretty benign weather here... warm with a gentle breeze but it can all change in a blink of an eye.

Glas, don't get me started. I've never felt more despondent after a game than I did after the game on Friday. Yes, we could have won it if Lewis Robling had landed his kicks, but that's not the point. We were witless. Your lot knew that the ball would be going to whichever forward was standing in midfield with Gavin Thomas next to him. Why we didn't want to pick and drive around the fringes to suck in the defence before going wide is anyone's guess.
But never mind, it's the Ospreys up next and they'll be easy meat.

Outside I've called you the Fraggles because Dragons are the last thing you are playing like. Somebody needs to grab that team by the scruff of the neck.

We do look a bit rudderless - but if we can get a win on Friday that'll do us the world of good. Two wins from eleven league games doesn't breed confidence. And we need to start scoring tries again sharpish.

Morning all
Hope everyone is well. Shoite weather here today, grey, wet and windy. My mood is not lightened by hearing on the grapevine that Nick Kennedy and Delon Armitage are 99% certain to be heading to Toulon in the summer.
Ah well, work this afternoon, it's going to be a long day, but have some really juicy jobs I am working on at the moment, so actually looking forward to going in.

Pete, How much will you miss Armitage? - he's become a walking disciplinary case? Kennedy will be a big loss, particularly with BBC not getting any younger, but Garvey looks like a fine prospect in the boiler room? Anyone else coming thru?Ozzy3213 wrote:Morning all

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
BBC is retiring at the end of the season as well. All three will be missed. Delon is pretty much a marked man now so maybe not as much, especially as we have Homer to fill the 15 shirt, but losing Bob and Nick will be tough.
We have a young lad called Kieran Low coming through, was in the England U20 set up last year, but he's been injured all season so far and looks as if he might be a bit brittle. Talented though, and would be a good foil for Garvey, much as Nick was for Bob.
It's more the experience thing that is an issue really though. We have a pretty young squad as it is, and that's a big part of our inconsistency this year I believe. I hope that we use the money that gets freed up for wages by releasing these players wisely, and invest in a big, horrible, experienced tighthead, and a ball carrying number 8 that doesn't get banned for most of the season.

Bore da/Good morning all.
Horrible day today, weather is blydi awful, got drenched on my short walk to work.
However I've just been told by my colleagues that it's up to me to eat all the leftover chocs and biscuits because none of them want to put anymore weight on after the Christmas period, so not all bad I guess

Morning all,
Very stormy here too last night.
Totally spooked the dog who was barking a lot, completely uncharacteristically.
This morning we discovered that the poor dog may have been barking at the weeuns play house which is now half way down the garden on its roof!

Whilst it is grim weather wise here, I don't think it's anything like some of you are having. The littlies play house is where it should be outside, although the garden does resemble a paddy field so I'm not sure how much use they'll be getting out of it.
Hope all those experiencing the real bad weather stay safe.

The wind was so strong last night it was causing the sashes to come together in the windows with a deep thud despite the rubber seals and even though the latches were done.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Have similar experiences every now and then.
When we had 120km plus wind gusts and torrential rain; it was like an evil force banging on the bedroom windows in the middle of the night. It went on and on and intensified. I tried to ignore (go back to sleep) but 'it' hit the glass even harder. It was so angry.
I thought the glass was going to shatter and land in my face across the room. Had the rattling sashes too Glas - I wedged some cardboard in there but then I could see even more stress on the whole window frame - so I quickly removed the wedges and let the rattling go on. The next morning there were shredded trees, etc but some poor folk's roofs copped a real battering near the coast.
It was like being on a fishing trawler in the Southern Ocean in a gale - completely at the mercy of the Gods... but without the sea throwing the bed around the cabin and getting soaked by freezing water!

I had the rattling sashes a few weeks ago, but I took some Imodium and I was fine.

That doesn't sound very nice Breaker!
Have to say I was a bit scared last night with the wind. I live right at the top of my building and I sleep in a sort of turret bit added on at the top. Could feel my whole bedroom shaking a bit throughout the night, twas horrible!
Very lucky that in the Diff the wind never gets too bad, certainly nothing near 120km gusts!

With the Imodium its not the gusts as such, but the Poopie that comes with them.

Flatulence will get you nowhere lucky...
dreamer, it's not as bad here as in the States but recently there has been the odd sea spout. One or two came onto the land where they lose power quickly but not before ripping a few roofs off.

I can't say I've been paying the provinces too much attention, Glas. Keith Earls I'd say is too lightweight for midfield at international level.

Its not as tedious as the Sexton v O'Gara debate or the Wallace - Heaslip - Ferris - O'Brien debate.

Penfro - I was thinking the same about the river Taff when walking into work this morning, and we've had even more rain since then!
Sun is out now though, hope it lasts until 1pm when I have to venture out to get some food.
Breaker - will have to have a look at that youtube clip when I get home

Afternoon All.
Sounds like the weather's bothering a lot of people all over. At least the rain has stopped in Cardiff and the sun's out....although the 70mph wind has not. Actually, I went out in it earlier and when you're walking down a sheltered street the wind doesn't seem that bad...

Drain still blocked but I'm pretty sure that's the source of the water seeping up through the floor. Oh well - didn't like that laminate anyway. Having a cup of tea, then back outside to get REALLY wet and cold. Wind has eased off a bit at least. I have left an answerphone message for my trusty building contractor, Ron the Omnipotent, and am hoping he will ride to my rescue at some stage!

To warm you up!
I hope you get it sorted soon.
You really do have a time of it in the winter up there. What with frozen pipes and boilers broken etc.
Maybe you should change your name to some sort of bird and fly south for the winter?

Cari - I sort of made that mistake with my brolly earlier. Hadn't realised how windy it was when I opened it on the stairs leaving my building, stepped out onto the pavement and I had to shut it right away. It's not quite unscathed though, even those few seconds have left it well, a bit wonky. Still works though!
