Festive boxing trivia quiz.
First topic message reminder :
Let's see if we can revive this old chestnut while we're still enjoying the festive season and, presumably, in light hearted mood. You know the score ; somebody asks a question and the person who provides the correct answer asks the next question, and so on.
I'll get the ball rolling with a fairly easy one :
One of the most controversial title fights in heavyweight history is linked to a true legend of boxing ( not a heavyweight, ) by a major US city and a relative who is not yet famous but will become famous immediately after the fight in question.
Who are the relatives, which is the city and which is the title fight?

No we dispute the answer for hours until we break you and make you admit that all of us in some way were in fact correct.

*Sigh* it will be disputed I know it...
"The Dixie Kid" Aaron Brown.
Have at me.
Born in 1883, and made his debut in 1900, is generally recognised as the first fighter to have a style in which he held his hands lower than his waist.

Re: Festive boxing trivia quiz.
Answer disputed, Alex. Your question was:
You'll note that there was no mention of hands being below the waist, just hands held low. I stand by answer of Joe Gans.

Re: Festive boxing trivia quiz.
Ok, I'm guessing this will be got at pretty fast.
What is the real name of the man that was billed as "The man who couldn't be knocked out" and for a bonus who was the man that eventually knocked him out that effectively ended him as an attraction?
Note: He was actually knocked out early in his career, but most people didn't know that when he was doing his more or less circus act and was billed as the man that couldn't be knocked out even though he had been knocked out once before.

Technically speaking the question is basically the same as "How long is a piece of string"
The word "low" puts it as an opinion as different people have different views on how low you have to hold your hands for them to be viewed as low.
However, it's just being far too technical for a friday.

Julio Cesar Chavez wasn't knocked out early, although he had what sounds to be a bit of a dubious decision go towards him where he was apparently DQ'ed.

Must be Joe Grim, former opponent of many great fighters including O'Brien, Fitzsimmons, Gans, Walcott, Maher, Blackburn and the aforementioned Dixie Kid.

Yup Superflyweight got there first, shared the ring with guys like Jack Johnson and basically just stood there with very little offense to give and a defense that consisted of an amazing resolve in taking punches. I'm guessing he didn't feel too good after retiring. Died relatively young also, unsuprising.

They may have slipped on a banana skin. But no defence to the most basic weapon boxers have; the jab. Extremely poor fundermentals

If that is the right answer I'll post my question as I'm about to be offline.
Which champion's half brother stopped John Collins in one round?
Obviously this quetion isn't valid until Cane returns. Parilimentary procedure n' all that.

Apologies, was off for a lunch with the missus and the little un.
Who was the first man to fight Jack Johnson on his return to North America after defeating Burns in Australia? What was the opponent's occupation at the time and what occupation did he subsequently take up?
For a bonus point, what links that man to a 606 v2 poster who has posted on this article?

Re: Festive boxing trivia quiz.
It's not O'Brien, ghosty. By way of miniscule clue it was an exhibition fight which I believ took place in Vancouver. The ship bringing Johnson back embarked there.
Az, you would have won a bonus point and a Rocky Maricano box set. Alas, you are wrong.

Alternatively - He fought Frank Moran in a 4 round exhibition before he fought O'Brien and Moran became a dentist I believe.
