The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Rhys Thomas, Ben Castle, Andy Fenby and Bill McLaren above the bar!

PJ get out from behind the Sofa and get behind your team man
Apart from Hodgson, that is a seriously talented back line. I am looking forward to seeing them in action.

I agree with Rava re: England. They're a good team and the management and players are fired up for it.

I think they are a team of average players with an inexperienced coach, the fact that they are England doesn't change that.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
As the token Englisman here I'm siding with Rodders, England are a bit of a shambles from top to bottom at the moment.
I'm slightly pleased that some fresh blood is being brought into the mix for once, but Murrayfield has broken far better players than those turning out tomorrow and I do fear for them, I just don't see Scotland away as a good fixture for trying things out.

I would say they are all players who by and large are doing well with their clubs. Lancaster may be inexperience but is drilling them well.
Rugby often comes down to the top two inches and that team with the right mentality is a potent mix.

PJ I'm not wumming here man, I thought England were doing ok under Johnson and would have bounced back from the RWC.
I'm not impressed by Lancaster and Farrell at all...I wouldn't know were to start....theres something not right about english rugby right now.
Farrell was a childhood hero of mine by the way, had a wigan shirt with Farrell 13 on the back and everything.....

It takes time and experience to build those top 2 inches though Stag.
To be fair to Lancaster he's on a hiding to nowt, he will want to try and make an impression because he's only got 5 games to do it in, the major drawback to that is he doesn't have the players to make an impression.
The biggest mistake the RFU made was announcing the introduction of an interim manager for the 6N and then picking a new guy, they should have picked Ashton IMO, at least he would have nothing to lose.
Nite Rava.

Don't doubt you for a minute Rodders, MJ was too parochial for me though, it's a bit like when a jock gets made up to a lance-corporal, he's got a stripe but he's still one of the lads, it's a very difficult balance to strike, maintaining discipline without some smartorse coming back with "feck me, get you with yer pips".
MJ wasn't the biggest problem anyway, it was Wells and Ford that were sub-standard.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Things weren't perfect under Johnson by any stretch but the RFU knew what they were getting, he was learning on the job. They needed to stick by him for another while at least. Things were moving forward.
The current set up is just bizarre. Farrell is still employed by Saracens and Lancaster is bringing in footballers to chat about the importance of representing your country.
If that was happening in Ireland I'd go bananas.

Roy Keane was asked to speak to Munster team by Kidney in 2005. They won the Heineken Cup 7 months later.
I had no doubt that a speech from someone like Rory McIlroy would be a positive thing down the line for Ulster. Getting into a winning habit translates across sports.
Also our scrum coach Feek is still employed by Leinster.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
There isn't a "current setup" though Rodders, and that's the problem with England rugby right now.
An "interim coach" idea for the 6N competition is soooooo English it's almost a paradox of it's own RFU bumbling "old fartyness".
Being Anglo-Irish I can see exactly where you're coming from whilst at the same time thinking to myself; "well, Rome wasn't built in a day was it?".
It does feck me right off but I also have a tendency to be quite stoic about that sort thing.

-18 here. Man. Going out shopping in a bit. 2 sets of thermals on. And a spare pair of knickers, in case I get run over.
Mornin Pub! 6-N kicks off in a few hours. I phokking it love.it.com.
Its great to see your team do well in the HC, but when I see my country's rugby team take the field, I just beam and get that ol 5-N/6-N feeling again. There is no feeling like it in rugby. The history, the passsion, the buzz. RWC does not do the same thing, for me anyway...
Believe.

All in all this is looking like an epic weekend of sport. Standard premiership weekend with some big clashes on sunday, start of 6n, watch England tank it in the cricket, then finish it up with a superbowl. Kaboom!

Feic! We're done for.
We need a decent Six Nations, the last two we've been mediocre. The reason why I'm apprehensive is Ireland have no consistency any more. Last year we only won 50% of our tests. The games we lost in 2011 were 3 defeats by France, 2 by Wales, 1 by Scotland and 1 by England. So I wasn't very confident we could muster the consistency required to land the the title prior to Guscotts kiss of death.

Get your money on George North to be top try scorer in the 6N folks. He's my tip.
In other news my local has taken up my suggestion for a SW beer festival. 12 different beers are being ordered. It will be like having the CVI in Stanmore (minus the maniac locals )

Hah! Women and children first
Actually Cari, the women's game had to be called off at halftime due to dropping temperatures and a freezing pitch. Ireland were 10-3 up but the game will have to be replayed.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
France v Italy should be a foregone conclusion. Saint-André is a canny soul and will get the best out of the French more often than not, and probably will cut out the occasional inexplicable defeats (eg Italy 6N 2011, Tonga at RWC).
Scotland v England is an odd one. Not losing to England at Murrayfield has become a bit of a habit in recent years. That, together with the England squad's rawness and inexperience suggest to me that a defeat for England - unless it's a complete mullering - would be a setback for English short term hopes, while a defeat for Scotland would be something of a disaster for them, put them in a horrible frame of mind for the other games against more experienced teams - and may have Andy Robinson looking for new employment by Easter.
In sum, let's hope all 4 sides play well, entertain, then see what results.
