First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Rhys Thomas, Ben Castle, Andy Fenby and Bill McLaren above the bar!

Just watched Van Persie for Arsenal on BEEB highlights. Hat-trick. The inter-play between him and Henry was sublime. That boy Chamberlain is brilliant. He will play for England. What a talent.

Not far Billy. Bike-ride. I worked there in the 80's. The OLD building, not the new one. It was called HDK.

Actually IBM reared / paid for my family. Bless em. Worked in Zoetermeer for years. And Uithoorn. Both gone now.

Laugh Errm. I think you mean Sloten.

Mrs had me pushed to move nearer the City. Right near the Vondelpark. But to be honest, when I leave this apt it will be to leave NL. 26 years and I only came for a feicin weekend!

It was a very strong joint...

United should line him up when Fergie falls off his perch.

Only spent 5 days in Amsterdam a few years back. Lovely city with some nice parks. I am fascinated by all the water too!

That looks like a cool spot Billy. I came in on the train line past the Arena then had to change onto the metro line. Stayed in the centre somewhere... had no idea really (tourist!) but I liked it around Weesperbuurt (the Plantage) and Rembrandtplein.

Bore da pawb / good morning all. I slept like a log, it's a beautiful morning and it's Ireland v Wales this afternoon. I approve of these things. Smile

A few points on Scotland v England yesterday:

1) It's not England's fault that Scotland didn't take their chances - but it's not to their credit either.

2) England didn't give away many penalties at the breakdown, but that had more to do with George Clancy being content to tell them to get their hands out of the ruck and allow them to take their time doing so. Net result: no penalty conceded but much slower ball. Another ref might not have been so lenient.

3) This is as significant a win for England as it is a defeat for Scotland. It will give England so much confidence that they've won at Murrayfield for the first time since 2004 despite not playing their best and with a largely new-look side. A huge boost for them. They could really build and build now.

Ah its lovely up there Bill. Im not surprised you love your space. I have lived in some nice places in the country. Specially when the kids were young. I loved Brabant. Lived on a farm there too. Nothing for miles around. When we got there in 86, it was Summer and 35 degrees C. In the winter, it was -25. The bog froze for weeks and we had to get water in. It was dangerous having a pee...

Also loved Alkmaar/Bergen - best coastline in NL. Lived there for 9 years. Kids went to The Europese School in Bergen. Beautiful spot.

But as one gets older, I prefer being near the Big City.

Exactly Breaker. I took it over from my mate when I moved down from Alkmaar.

Check the 2nd room down on Ladyboy Straat, C/O de Red Light.

Mornin Lucky bud! Feeling Lucky today? Im starting to get nerves now. This game could go either way, besides all the blagging I do outside. Shuuushhh. Wink

I'm nervous about the game, Gibbo. I'd say our chances of winning have improved now that Priestland and Jamie Roberts are playing, but Ireland are favourites and we could get a real hiding if we're not careful.

Can't wait for it. What a magic time of year this is.

+1

I totally agree with all of that. Its how the 6-N works. Momentum is everything and a tricky win away from home, is commendable. Specially when you consider England have a new coach and a new squad.

England fans should be well happy this morn. They will only get better.

Dont know what to say about Scotland... Best not.

Phhok it, sure where is de craic in us all agreeing?

That's a perfectly fair assessment to make, Billy. (Yours, not his.)

Ah most of them are grand. Its just the vicious ones who need a virtual spanking.

In fact, they wind themselves up. Its amazing how much you can judge a person under virtual-stress.

I was thinking the same too about Italy's confidence. But after a good lie down I think England will prevail... just - by about 1-3 points.

Go easy on the 'so-called bickering' guys... us poor baastards have to put out the fires that potentially may be created.

You are free to create a special thread for it if you wish - like the "England-Wales Bickering Thread" - no holds barred but you still need to be careful.

Some eedyit went below the belt on Dan Parks - had to stomp it out before others got wind of it. Think Abe Lincoln in the theatre... a big no-no.

I think getting nasty & personal, about a player as a man/human is despicable.

Ok to have go at his rugby abilities. But, NOT the man.

Nothing worse than that. Dan Parks did his best and is actually a decent chap, met him once and he was very down to earth. We talked about Wagga Wagga as i went there when i was in OZ land.

Some of the personal abuse that was aimed at him was very poor.

Well it wasn't Dan Parks's fault he was selected, was it?

Morning all.

Billy, there were some complaints in (from 3rd parties) about the exchange, so I cleaned it up. I was having a good chat with mistiri on the cricket section yesterday re the use of Hawkeye to review umpire calls, he's all right.

Lovely white blanket out this morning. My mate managed to rebook his flight out of Heathrow, and he managed to get the hire car back there this morning, now he has a long wait for the re-booked flight.
