The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Rhys Thomas, Ben Castle, Andy Fenby and Bill McLaren above the bar!

I'm inhaling mine right now too. With my mate Dave over from Canada the last few days have been:
Wed - out for a curry, a few beers, into bed at 1am
Thurs - a few whiskies at home after netball, into bed at 1am
Fri - 2-4-1 happy 3 hour Coronas at teh Covent Garden Walkie, pints in another couple of bars, then whisky at home in the wee hours
Sat - Circle Line pub crawl followed by a couple of hours in the She Bu Walkie, then a curry & lagers, then whisky at home.
That's one way to get over detox January

Mornin PJ. Yeah man, I have light-sensitive eyes at the best of times. So, had to put de aul shades on yesterday. The glare of the Sun off snow - is blinding. With a hangover, its double-blinding.
As I dont drink anymore. I find that has lessened somewhat.
Still. Glad I got those 2 dozen in for the game...
Where's me blue Leinster shades, roysh? They cut out the Ulster & Munster players on the field.
Grand.

Morning folks,
Enough has been said on the negative of Scotland yesterday how about the positives. Denton was absolutely superb for them yesterday. If he keeps those performances up he will walk into any 6 nations squad

Morning Hughie,
It's easy to see why, but I can't help thinking the vibes around Scotland are unnecessarily negative. Parks is easily replaced, as is Cusssiter, Weir and Laidlaw should start the next game, Hogg should be in there and before too long Visser will be qualified.
Denton had a good game and for his age looks way out in front.
Scotland aren't far off having a very strong 1st XV.

Morning All (ish).
Got the roast going for me and my pal later
Big day for Tommy Bowe - it's his 50th cap. If he scores today he'll make 100 points for Ireland. If he scores three tries during this tournament, he'll pass Shane Horgan to become Ireland's third all time top try scorer behind BOD and Denis Hickey He's just not allowed to try that today
Enjoy the match everyone, and may the best Welsh team win!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Hello all. Walked two miles home yesterday in the snow. Fell over in it about six times (had the high heels on ). No transport running - buses ceased at around 21:30 and no cab drivers would work.
It was the same last winter just before Christmas. Boris claimed 22,000 tons of extra grit was brought in for the forecast snow. I saw precious little evidence of it in Harrow.
Brunch time, and then I'll check about how to get to the pub for the game.
Laters, and good luck folks.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Afternoon from a beautifully white and cold Gascony(glad we got home yesterday, otherwise as they don't have salt/grit stocks in this part of the world,we'd be stuck somewhere in the Landes forest).Went to the market this morning, and I was the only one there,no stallholders, newsagents closed, even the bar
Three tries from the ASM lads yesterday,I see and Scotland beat Scotland.
Hope it's not too cold in The Bedpan this afternoon, but I suppose the regs will be well warmed before arriving.

In that phase of play, Barnes missed a crooked lineout by Wales, a deliberate knock-on by Ireland and a forward pass by Wales.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
What a game! Wales sublime in attack, but can't buy their own ball at the lineout or a kick at goal. Ireland living off scraps. Could go either way. If Ireland only would pretend they're playing England they might get into the game. If Wales can turn silky skill and invention into points they might walk it.
Perhaps a 15-15 draw? (Wales 3 tries, Ireland 5 kicks).

Wales 3 tries, Simon. Not a fecking hope. Ireland can soak up pressure, you win the game when you don't have the ball. Ireland by 10.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Erm, are you sure about that, Thomond? 55th minute, Wales have just gone 15-13 up. Two tries scored - maybe more to come...?
As a neutral, I'd like to see a bit more of the Irish back row and, separately, George North (monster!) get the ball in a bit of space. Pulsating entertainment, loving every minute. And well done both sets of fans for - mostly - respecting the opponents' kickers. New depths plumbed yesterday at Murrayfield by Alex Salmond's finest (...it must take real courage to boo a 20 year old playing his first international), mirrored I'm ashamed to say by some of my own idiotic compatriots.

If Sexton had a brain we would have won. If we came up to meet Wales in defence it could have been a different story. Well done Wales, missing a lot of players and showed great heart and belief. They deserved to win.

Thomond - 3 tries did it, then. What a game!
But ... Bradley Davies surely should have seen red - vicious and dangerous; while Ferris (eejit, eejit, bloody eejit!) might have, too. I felt both challenges were much nastier than Warburton's red against France in RWC semi.
Any thoughts?

Simon, I would have to see the Ferris incident again. Davies should have gone no question (Wales can't b!tch about Sam Warburton's anymore though) Pathetic performance from us, I'm just amazed how our defence coach/Kidney believed you could stand 10 metres off the Welsh back for the whole game.

I suggest you rewatch the Ferris tackle. He does squat all wrong. May lift the man up but he brings him down and at no point lets go of him.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Thought the Ferris decision was marginal and Davies' was a red all day long, I never agreed with the Warburton red but that's the way the game is run so you have to accept it.
Davies will see a minimum 3 week ban (discounts included) but I have a feeling it will be closer to 6.
I guess poor refereeing decisions even out over time?

Willy, it was a penalty, it's not about letting him go, it's about the tipping point which is around the elbows. Davies is a scumbag. Be a man and hit him on the ball instead he was just a softcoc resulting in a cheap shot.

I thought Wales were worth their win.I also hope that Davies takes no further part in the tournament;Barnes admitted he didn't see the incident so it was on the assistant to give his opinion.Had it been a straight red,the suspension would have been shorter.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Regardless of the Ferris tackle, we somehow let Wales get the length of the pitch inside 2 minutes. For a side that prides ourselves on our defense in recent times, we shifted 3 tries, one of which when we were a man up. Not even close to it from Ireland today. Wales should have won comfortably. I'm now with Gibbo, show Mr Kidney the door. With the amount of talent we have and the provencial success we are nowhere near good enough when it comes to international level.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
WillyGilly,
Ferris did do something wrong, I'm afraid, according to the rules. I'm happy to agree it should have been only yellow, not red, but every time I see the incident, I see the feller lift up his opponent (momentum or no momentum) with hips above shoulders and sent him groundwards in that position. So, according to the rules, it was a penalty - and has to be one of the stupidest unnecessary things I've ever seen in the context of the state of a match and time remaining. Wales had the ball but weren't necessarily going to threaten the Irish line in the minute or so remaining.
And before you ask, no I don't think the rule is a good one, nor do I think Wales necessarily would have managed those 14 phases of possession that got them to that incident from their own 22 if they had been playing with 14, not 15, as they should have.

Willy, I said a post or two ago that our defensvie coach leaves a lot to be desired, you can't stand 10 metres off the Welsh and expect it to be okay. You can't stand 10 metres off anyone in defence, it's underage stuff, you get up and make the tackle. On the tackling note, why didn't we just go low, we were going for the ball and missing tackles, get low and get him down.
