The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Sergio Parisse and Owen Farrell above the bar.

To be honest I'm a big fan of Skinner, it's just Merton did it so much better. Mind you, I was comfortably in my teens and very hormonal when he was doing it so what do I know.

Morning pub, I'm not very happy, I had Halfpenny as my Guiness fantasy league captain at the weekend but haven't recieved his double point bonus. Naughty Guiness.
Billy, it all seems very tame out there at the minute, maybe it's because you've been behaving yourself in here though?

Morning boys, it was bad yesterday. I think perhaps I shouldn't comment on welsh games.

Bore da pawb, good morning all, welcome to Monday!
Biltong, I wouldn't worry too much about the bickering outside. Some of my countrymen won't listen to reason and will take any criticism of the national side as a personal slight, even (or especially) if the criticism is valid.

May be true Luckless, but I don't like getting dragged into it. Some of the comments are pulling me into a response like a moth to a flame, but anyhoo, congrats on another good performance by Wales

Must have been brilliant at the match luckless. It was another great match and credit to both teams for putting on a pretty good show. I just hope that Ireland can play next weekend.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It was great to get to the game, Billy, seeing as the last time I went to a Six Nations game was in 2004 for Wales v Italy. The second half was better than the first, but my main feeling on the way home was that we kicked too much ball away - and most the kicks went straight to a Scot. We can't afford to do that at Twickenham in a fortnight's time.
Biltong, what I don't understand is why some posters have to gloat after a win instead of just being happy with the win. I've never understood it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yeah i was suprised by that as well luckless. Everytime your backline got moving they were making ground so i never saw the need for the kicking of possesion away. Still, you guys completely blitzed Scotland from 40 to 50 mins.
England is still very much an unknown quantity right now as they have shown absolutely nothing yet.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Well let's not ponder on that anymore, I have decided to steer clear of them.
I think Wales has a good chance of beating England, they outscored them on tries just before the RWC and have carried on that momentum. England on the other hand has carried their same from through as well and although they have been winning matches, they do seem vulnerable.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It's such a tough one to call. Two games in and it's still hard to say what sort of game England want to play. They haven't been great, but they're two from two all the same - and it would be typical if they find their feet against us! But it's great, a good old-fashioned Triple Crown showdown.

Thing is biltong, England have played two hard games away from home and won both without actually showing anything. Its that unknown factor that has me concerned and at Twickers they up their game. Should be a brilliant match though

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I agree Billy, as I said yesterday England has kept on winning, I don't know if it is injuries or attitude, but I really expected them to look more motivated and fluent after the world cup.
In my opinion I thought they would want to come out and show their fans some hunger and yet they sit back defend and struggle to dominate posession.
They might still win the six nations, I just have seen more from Wales and France.
One thing that struck me looking at the six nations thus far, the games are won and lost for many of the same reasons the Tri Nation matches are lost. They have all been competitive and then a chargedown, or an intercept or loss of focus for only a short period is necessary to lose a match.
Overall it has been more enthralling than I expected.
Even Scotland and Italy have played some good rugby in these matches even though they lost.

I'm glad you're enjoying the tournament, Biltong. It might not always be the highest quality rugby, but it's always hard-fought.

Yeah I am enjoying it, but watching a tournament when you don't have an affiliation to any team is rather weird.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Wales are favourites for the game in my mind, but I don't see it being as easy or straightforward as a minority of the Welsh posters on here would have you believe.
I do love the way Wales are playing though, power, speed, grace, and for all his size North has some sublime handling skills, I think he is the epitome of Wales' current style. I hope he's OK for the next game.
Off to do a bit now fellas, catch you later.

I thought the France v Ital match was pretty decent but the Ireland v Wales and the Wales v Scotland matches have been the standout matches. I have really enjoyed watching both..... Well the Wales v Scotland match moreso

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I tend to support the underdog. Well have so far with Italy and Scotland, but then that is in contradiction to my Sprotsguru predictions.
I suppose we all do that, support the underdog.
I just don't enjoy matches where one team runs away with it, there is no intensity in such a match.
You need two to tango, unfortunately.

And I had a dream Paddy Wallace replaced The Edge as the guitarist in U2 just before they embarked on a world tour, and all the U2 fans were indignant. But I was all defnsive and saying "Wallace is a great guitarist, youse are all clueless, you wouldn't be saying that if you'd seen some of the gigs he's played in Belfast lately". I actually had that dream, I'm not even lying..
That's brilliant.

i did pick them to win against Wales though and I actually enjoyed the game, but Ireland struggled with pace out wide. Kearney was brilliant at the back though and he was supreme with those catches of the up and unders.eirebilly wrote:I thought that you would be for the boys in green biltong... being that its a good colour

I was so cranky in that match that Ireland continued to allow the big Welsh backs to run and build up a head of steam. Ireland really should have rushed the welsh attack alot more.
Has anyone got any further news on the rescheduling of Saturday's match?

I'm waiting to hear more about George North's injury. We won without him, but we could really do with having him available when we travel to the old cabbage patch.

It's OK, whilst many nations will be represented, there won't be any Scots there

It didn't look that serious to me, on the replay you could see his ankle got twisted, but during the match he lloked calm from the bench smiling and joking. If it was serious he wouldn't have been there.
Your game is only in two weeks isn't it?

I hope that North will be ok as well. He has been the star of the tournement so far in my eyes.
Did he go get a scan? I never heard anything about that and he was sitting with the boys for the rest of the match. Thats usually a good sign.

I forgot to mention yesterday, but I welled up a bit during the anthems yesterday. It was 'dros rhyddid collasant eu gwaed' ('for freedom they spilt their blood') that did it.
