The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Sergio Parisse and Owen Farrell above the bar.

Yeah, because we have loads of chants! There's "Stand Up for the Ulstermen" AND "UULSTERRR, UULSTERRR, ULSTERRR" and... er... "ULSTER! (clap clap clap)"
Oh, one I forgot. The old cheerleader favourite "Give me a U... give me an L..." but then when you get to R you just repeat the R 10 times until you eventually go "ULSTERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR".
But that's it, really.
There are others but they never catch on 'cause not enough people know the words and those that do are dispersed around the ground.
"We've been there, we've done it-
IN EUROPE WE HAVE WON IT-
Oh you'll always be a bruiser, you'll never be a loser;
With the Ulster Rugby Team; ULSTER!!"
When's the last time you heard that? Exactly.
"Yippie Kay Yay... Yippie Kiy Yo... Ghostriders in the Sky..."

MrsP, all I heard was that the ticket owner has to go through his provider.i.e. club, federation,Ticketmaster or whatever and ask. This was on the radio at 8.00pm over here;perhaps it only applies to French dwellers.

BREAKING NEWS: FFR will not reimburse Irish fans who dressed as leprechauns
The French Rugby Federation has revealed that they will reimburse any Irish fans that purchased tickets for the postponed Six Nations. The France – Ireland clash was called off last weekend due to extreme weather conditions in the French capital.
However, in a move welcomed by millions, Irish fans who attended the match dressed as leprechauns will not be able to claim their money back. Ticket holders will be matched against CCTV images from the stadium before being issued a refund.
“It’s time someone took a stand,” said a FFR spokesperson. “It’s tacky, unoriginal, not funny and must surely irritate any self-respecting Irish person who wishes to move on from negative and twee stereotypes. Most of all, we don’t want that kind of thing in Paris. We have standards. Also, if you are going to do it make your own costume and don’t buy one of those cheap off the shelf things.”
After issuing the statement the spokesperson shuddered in horror at the thought of the whole thing.
The move will increase pressure on the Six Nations committee to ban the costume from future tournaments.

However, in this Spring like weather, daffodils and leeks will be allowed in at a reduced rate
Now,what I've been reading says that the IRB are being very generous, and are willing to reimburse those who are unable to travel to France for a sunday afternoon game.tickets may be cheap, and there's an ASM vs Toulouse on the Saturday: could be a meet up

I think you are right of course Rava but I was thinking more about costumes in general being banned, particularily those involving sparkly cowboy hats.
They'd never fill the Millenium Stadium again except for the HEC finals you refer to.
The other bit was about your lovely article about Ulster's match on Friday night in Cardiff.
We aren't allowed to call it that though are we.
Okay, Ulster's match against the Welsh Capital Blues!

MrsP you may call them Cardiff if you wish you can call them whatever you want it's just a name.
If somebody calls the touring side the British Lions it does not really matter does it and some do call them that but personally I would use the correct name The British and Irish Lions or simply just the Lions.

Back from 't Vitinary. 2 lambs, one dead, no Caesar. Breech presentation but the lamb had died a couple of days ago. If I'd have known that I could have delivered it myself. Always a risk with young ewes of breaking the ribs. Thankfully she had twins so there is a relatively happy ending.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Cymro,
I suppose it depends whether someone is using the technically incorrect name to offend or cause trouble or just because it is a genuine shortening of the name with no agenda whatsoever.
People talk about "Liverpool" in footballing terms without it meaning the only team from that city.
The teams in the Rabo only play one team from Cardiff so it is understandable to call that team "Cardiff" without any agenda. The fact that there is another team of that name playing in a different league is neirther here nor there.
When are asking Penfro how the "Sarries" did this week we are not trying to offend and he knows that in that context we mean "his" Sarries whon are also from Cardiff.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Some of us are fighting hard to get the fans to recognise the Blues Dragons Scarlets and Ospreys as true regions.
I and a few others try and hint that the city or town name needs to be dropped or in Cardiff's case they should be called either Cardiff Blues or just simply the Blues.
Obviously it's not the first time you have heard that said ? I could understand newcomers to the forum calling them Cardiff but the regs should know by now that most Welsh fans don't use the town or city name.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I can understand you being upset with those who aer using the name to resist Regionalisation but that would probably be solely the position of some Welsh fans. For the rest of us it is just as valid to refer to the Cardiff Blues as "Cardiff", "The Blues" or "Cardiff Blues" in the same way we do with the Leicester Tigers.
No agenda. Just the short way of referring to the team we play from Cardiff.
In the same way that someone from NZ calling the Lions "The British Lions" would be a shorthand rather than the intended sleight that someone from these islands might be suspected of for using the same phrase.
I really do try to remember to use "The Blues" since I discovered it was frowned upon but I never really regarded it in that way until it was pointed out and old habits die hard.
But, most importantly, no offence is ever intended by it.

Aye, I've started doing it out of badness in just the last few days. I wouldn't get too exercised about it though.
As you say, as soon as they change their name no-one will call them Cardiff anymore anyway. I don't call Llanelli by their pre-regional name for instance.

Don't they have to have Cardiff in the name if they play at the Arms Park? Something to do with Cardiff Athletic Club which owns the ground apparently. They also have to play in Blue and Black.

Something to do with the Athletic Club again. They're the ones that own the Arms Park. It's contained in some sort of covenant, I'm not 100% certain.
That's also why the WRU weren't allowed to finish off the Millennium Stadium, the old codgers at the Athletic Club didn't want to lose the parking in the centre of town either!!! .

There's one end that's not finished off properly, if you look at the Stadium the one side isn't tiered properly. The intention was to knock down the Arms Park but the Athletic Club wouldn't let them do it.

Not as noticable as the "Connacht end" (as ummm, calls it) of the new stadium at Lansdowne Road.

What has Cardiff Athletics Club got to do with the CAP?

The 'dip' at the North Stand (aka Glanmor's Gap) is the unfinished bit MrsP . The original (1997/8 - pre-regional) idea was for the WRU to buy the Arms Park and build a purpose built stadium for Cardiff Athletic Club (including Cardiff RFC) down in the Bay area. Then they would have been able to mount the pitch on rails and roll it out into the sunshine, like a Sapporo Dome stadium used for the FIFA World Cup in Japan - LINK
Cardiff Athletic Club is a sports club not a purely an athletics club. It has hockey, cricket, bowls sections (and probably others) in addition to the rugby section

So,
Cardiff Athletics Club run Cardiff Rugby club but not Cardiff Blues Rugby club and they have nothing whatsoever to do with Athletics which has a track near the old Cardiff City Football club's ground while the new ground for the Cardiff City Football club is where the Cardiff Blues rugby club play?
Just don't call them Cardiff????
And you lot wonder why us mere mortals get the names wrong sometimes!!!!!
