The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Tommy Bowe, Ryan Jones, Dan Newton and birthday boy Prop above the bar.

Nice one biltong...I look forward to reading it. I thoroughly enjoyed the Crusaders v Sharks game at Twickenham last year. Will definitely look to go to another S15 game if one is held there.
And sorry, but I was with people earlier and wasn't watching the forum.

I find it incredible that someone can stick to his guns without remotely entertaining the possiblity that the earth is in actual fact not flat.

That list really shows where our Underage game is up here in Ulster.
It is very concentrated in the schools' system. Do you know much about the lad Rava? I take it he didn't play at school or did he leave early?

Morning all, and en route to Exeter yet again.
Nice for you to see a home town boy get international recognition Rava
I can't wait for Friday and the Bulls v Sharks match at 17:30 followed by England v Wales U20s. Two contrasting games in prospect there. Love the U20s level; nearly always entertaining games, with the guys just looking to go out and play.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Morning all,
Watched a very interesting documentary last night about what the bible really says about homosexuality. Basically it does say that it’s an “abomination” but in the same chapter it also says that planting 2 seeds in the same hole is an abomination and that eating rabbit is an abomination. The word “abomination” used in this context just means that it is not the done thing for a society which is wandering the desert trying to find a place to settle. Which makes sense.
The fact that people live their life, word for word, according to a book which has zero relevance in today’s world is a scary thought to me. I heard something on the radio the other day where someone was laughing at Richard Dawkins because he couldn’t remember the entire full title to the Origin of the Species. The broadcaster said something like “if the so called pope of atheism can’t even remember the name of the atheist bible then what does that tell you about their beliefs”. That made me laugh out aloud I must say…

Wow Mick, heavy topic for the early morning discussion.
I had a REALLY relaxing weekend. Read some poetry as part of college work, had a super night our saturday night. Very impromptu but 8 of us headed out - dinner, drinks and dancing.
Love it and miss all that type of thing so much with most of my pals living away.
Prop reading between the lines am I right in saying you spent your birthday in bed with the missus . . . . .

A lot of talk about it but nobody explaining what happened.

You’re probably right Stag, we were chatting about it at breakfast in here so it was fresh in my mind.
I went to the laughter lounge on Saturday, very good show. There was a fella there from the Savage Eye, highly-larious.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Morning everyone had my first trip to Dublin since the boom years over the weekend.
Have to say I found Temple bar and the city centre in general a wee bit depressing on Friday night...definitely noticed a big difference since my last visit.
By contrast I headed to wicklow yesterday and it felt like one of the most beautiful places on the planet, absolutely stunning and filled me with a sense of hope that the future for Ireland is extremly bright .

Stag, after a number of (Munsteresque) phases Leicester set up Flood in a drop goal position inside the Sarries 22. Flood bottled the first effort and took the ball into contact. A similar situation was set up after a couple more phases and Murphy basically pushed Flood aside and took the drop himself and it went over to win the game. All this in the 4th minute of overtime.

Ah Rodders, you went to Temple Bar… that was your first wrong move. Plenty going on around Dublin without resorting to going there. That would depress anyone. Although to their credit you’ll struggle to find a nicer pint of stout than in the temple bar pub.

What annoys me (a bit, not too much) about people claiming / believing that the Bible is the word of God is that mortal men decided what books were included in it and which were left out.

Ah but surely they were guided by God in choosing their selections.
Stag the Murphy drop goal is worth a watch if you can find it. Ugliest thing I've ever seen, but it went over and I think they probably deserved the win.

If that’s the most annoying thing then you’re a tolerant person!
I know religion and politics are too much of a hot potato for the pub but over the last couple of years I’ve come to really resent religion. Watching people use it to beat others over the head with and to deny people basic human rights is not exclusive to one of them either. Anyway, I’ll leave it at that.

As a Munster fan I have massive respect for the art of the drop goal. In those circumstances it shows real balls - Flood by sounds of it has played his way out of England team and too right too. I think Hodgson has been under rated compared to Farrell and Barritt.
I think it is a drop goal great skill and part of what makes rugby so brilliantly diverse.

You know in the original text, your man JC was welcomed by one angel when he rose from the dead but it was hastily changed to two angels because in Jewish law there had to be two witnesses for it to be legal? Little distortions like that abound.

Martin Bayfield was saying it was a deliberate tactic to have two players in position for the DG to plant the seed of doubt in the defences mind. I didn't see the incident so I don't know if he is right or you are.

Mick - I know what you mean. I accept that it is a source of comfort to many but personally I don't need a book to tell me to be nice to people.
I think though that there will always be something for people to get extreme about.
"Religion" is a victim and like soccer gets a bad name due to people over reacting, being intolerant of other views and simply using it as an excuse.
Two sides to the coin.

Notch as I say I didnt see incident either. Just putting two and two together.
Doesn't sound like much of a tactic.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Then there are typos. 'Your man JC' never said it was easier for a camel to pass throught the eye of a needle than it was for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. It was cable, not camel. Then there are the out-and-out lies, such as Paul's claim that the love of money is the root of all evil. Did Eve eat the apple for money? Er, I don't think so.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag, it was such a comfortable position that even Keith Wood would have been lining up to have a pop. .
What really got me was how close to the scrum half he wanted to be. The ruck wasn't any more than 6m out. Flood could have stood outside the 22 and given himself loads of time to make the kick.
Bayfield was just protecting him Notch. No way was it a tactic. You could clearly see Flood wasn't going to be taking it as Murphy got into position. Flood visible moved to the left.

It's fashionable to be sniffy about religion, but the history of science is littered with dogmatic acceptance of "theories" overthrown by visionaries initially seen as heretical. It's religion with added self fulfilling BS.

Daily Telegraph reckons Flood 'looked in decent form in open play and in his goal kicking, good enough to make at least the england bench'. Hmmmmm
Believing in the bible and believing in God are two entirely different concepts though are they not? Numerous scientists have stressed their belief in a higher power because they are capable of admitting that human understanding hasn't reached the point where we can explain everything. From my point of view I just cannot get it through my head that there isn't some form of God or higher power out there.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Glas I think its possible to not believe in God without being all ultra science about it.
I think it is highly offensive to say to a religious person "your WRONG" and is as unhelpful in a religious indiviudal dismissing scientific views.
But really you simply can (in my case) not believe in God. I am not a scientific person - I haven't a bloody clue what way a lot of things work but I just don't believe in God thats all. No big deal. Not presuring people into evolution or whatever.
I find a lot of people nearly expect you to take a firm stance on this when in reality many people just dont give it thought.

Willy,
In hindisght own take has been flawed by what I think are silly depictions of things.
The depiction of an old man living up in the clouds with his arch enemy living in a land of fire poking people with a fork seems like absolute nonsense to me.
If there is a higher power than to me it is something elemental like fire or electricity rather than a person.

Yeah, there's a conception that all atheists are dogmatic humanist/scientist types. I'm just not bothered about it. I don't believe in a Judeo-Christian God. I don't really think about it too much. Seems improbable though.
I have to agree with Stag; people who believe in God often expect others lack of belief to assume the same importance in their lives as their own belief does in theirs. It's wildly untrue.

You've explained how I feel about things, Willy. I like the Quakers' outlook: there is 'that of God' in everyone, you don't need to go to church or be part of the club to access it.

I have to agree with Stag; people who believe in God often expect others lack of belief to assume the same importance in their lives as their own belief does in theirs. It's wildly untrue.
And can be true the other way around as well.
Absolutely agree Munsty.

Willy yes agree entirely - it made perfect sense to them. I'm just pointing out that I do believe in some type of power - literally something element that creates life. But I would be amazed if it looks and acts like a person (created in own image etc) and actually needs or wants us to pray to it and if we are good or bad (very subjective) will go to different places. I would be even more surpised if they lived in the clouds in a castle with big golden gates.
Thats always how I see it and it has skewed my view of things as being silly. Its like the Greek gods. I think people may as well pray to Zeus and Apollo.
MBTGOG - your right of course thats true. I am not religious. Not actively anti-religious. Just it isn't a big part of my life and I forget how seriously others take it. And the same applies it reverse sometimes.

This is a big issue for me. These same people are willing to criticise people's belief in god and the bible questioning all aspects of their faith and yet have never in all probability asked themselves properly what they believe.
