Ok so Grizzly must have left (he's going to Australia for a few weeks) so I'll take his picks on. I know who he wants anyway.
With the 21st pick, the Kansas City Chiefs select Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor University.

might be worth waiting until the end of the 1st round, to me so far only 1 surprise really, but all in all straight forward for teams needs.

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
I guessed most people would be waiting until the end of the round to start the analysis. I was just wondering if anyone was writing one up because I think Graeme Swann's Cat did an analysis "while bored" of the first 8 picks, and there seems to be less discussion about these picks than the earlier ones.

It's up to you, as it's your time it takes up. You probably don't need to do one as it will probably be the same as the one at the end of the round.

What are people expecting the Saint's to do in the first round? I don't think I've heard anything about their draft needs this year except the idea they may go for Ingram.

we could make a first round explanaition thread where people could leave posts on why they made the pick etc???

But I already gave a nice reason for my pick in this thread
On a more serious note, I wonder if it makes sense to use the board of picks we have at the very beginning of this thread? That way we could give LeedsCowboys (or Pr4wn as he can edit) our analysis of our picks via PM and they can slot it in beside the names on this thread?

I'm struggling to think of what the Saints needs are as part of my prep for the Mock Draft Contest (so as a solution i'm considering having them trade back!)
DE/DT's have been talked about with the Saints, as has Ingram who is still available here.
This is the Team Needs Board of WalterFootball (obviously some have gone from our mock)
1. Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
2. Muhammad Wilkerson, DT, Temple
3. Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State
4. Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa
5. Marvin Austin, DT, North Carolina
6. Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State
7. Nate Solder, OT, Colorado
8. Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois
9. Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA
10. Martez Wilson, LB, Illinois
Just having a scan of their Depth Chart on NFL.com, OLB seems an area that in reality they could go for?

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
Thanks for the list, couldn't make sense of Drafttek's team needs and I couldn't find one on Sideline Scouting. If Cheesehead is using that list then they'll be taking Heyward, but if he looked elsewhere he may have different ideas.crazy_dave23 wrote:

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
#9 Cowboys Tyron Smith OT USC
Noises from Valley Ranch seem to indicate that Smith is their guy.
#10 Skins JJ Watt DE Wisconsin
Maybe somewhat of a surprise that the Skins opted against a pass rusher or wide receiver and instead bolstered the D Line. Personally I'd only take a 3-4 NT this high, but It's not as if the Skins are short of needs on defense.
#11.Texans Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska
Jason David would probably be an upgrade in that secondary. Could've looked at a pass rusher to fit the 3-4 conversion.
#12 Vikings Da'Quan Bowers DE Clemson
10/10 pick, love it.
#13 Lions Anthony Castonzo OT Boston College
If the Lions can't protect the franchise, they'll be looking at QBs in a year's time.
#14 Rams Julio Jones WR Alabama
Sammy B needs weapons.
#15 Dolphins Mike Pouncey G Florida
Ingram wont be much use if he's running into opposing DTs all the time like last years Dolphins RBs.
#16 Jaguars Ryan Kerrigan DE Perdue
Seems the kind of player the Jags like. Having players with great work ethic and high character will only get you far though. The talent of Aldon Smith must've been tempting.
#17 Patriots Cam Jordan DE Cal
I still think this should've been Smith, but with another 1st round pick the Patriots can still address the biggest hole in their team.
#18 Chargers Muhammad Wilkerson DE Temple
Hard to pick a specific big hole in this Chargers team, and its far too early to address special teams.
#19 Giants Akeem Ayers OLB UCLA
Giants need to get more production out of their LBs in general. Extra pass rush is always nice. Ingram mustve been tempting with Bradshaw and Jacobs out of contract.
#20 Buccaneers Aldon Smith DE Missouri
If he slides this far the Bucs won't waste any time handing in the card.
#21.Chiefs Phil Taylor NT Baylor
Seems a consensus pick
#22.Colts Nate Solder OT Boston
Probably would've looked heavily at Liuget here to help beef up a interior line that got bullied last year.
#23 Eagles Jimmy Smith CB Miami
10/10 pick love it.

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
Are they looking for a DE or general D line help. Bowers, Wilkerson and Heyward are very different types of DE. If they want a DT for their 4-3 then I think Austin is the best on that list, top 5 talent who has dropped because of character concerns

It was either him or Adrian Clayborn. I've only used the drafttek site to be honest.

Vikings attempt to quell the might of the Packers by drafting a man with a dodge-y knee. Just be glad Childress isn't still in charge or he'd have been running to the podium with a card marked "Brett Favre, QB, Mississippi".
#23 Eagles Jimmy Smith CB Miami
Corner to start opposite of Asante Samuel - Good fit. Should look to strengthen the lines in subsequent rounds.
Less bias

@GSC ONly take a NT at 10, but no nose tackle is worth that pick and we have so many needs, so take who is best player at one of hose many needs.

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
It depends on when the CBA is agreed, in this mock I expect the option of quarterback has been in contention, but if the CBA is agreed before the draft and Hasselbeck re-signs then they may look at improving the O-line, if you exclude the playoff game against the Saints they did very little running the ball last season. They can then look at taking a quarterback in the second round or leave it for next years draft.crazy_dave23 wrote:Well then... who do we think the Seahawks will take with their "division winning, out of position" draft pick?

Could be Mallet, could be Locker as he is local... but they may not draft him for that reason so as to stop the home fans pressing for him to play too quickly.
OT/G could be an area. We still have Sherrod and Carimi on the board.

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
You've both gone quarterback then. I see how Locker being local is a plus point and can help if he becomes the franchise quarterback but surely the decision should still come down to current talent, potential and their attitude to the game, are they prepared to work hard to reach their full potential or are they happy to stay at their current level. Hasselbeck has stated he wants to stay with the Seahawks, and Carroll said re-signing Hasselbeck was the teams top priority.

The Seahawks need big help at corner. Josh Freeman demolished them when they played the Bucs last year.

He won't be too upset, Miami is his main team and we do need to get things moving.
With the 25th pick, the Seattle Seahawks select Jake Locker, QB, Washington.

Re: 606v2 Mock Draft
The Ravens move quickly to turn their card into the Commish , and select CB Brandon Harris Miami.
With a fortunate turn of events, it looked like the Ravens were going wideout in the firsr round, but with the availabillity of top notch CB it was too good an opertunity to down a player to bolster our Secondary which was hit by injuries last year.
