The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the host city London, where we can watch the greatest athletes from all four corners of the globe compete in a multitude of Sports under the one thousand flame Olympic torch... each wearing the 5 coloured Olympic rings of blue, white (or black), red, yellow and green.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger) has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896.
(but not too high obviously!)
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Marcus Aurelius, Henri Didon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, Sir Steve Redgrave, Cameron Van De Burgh, Marianne Vos, Murray Rose, Jesse Owens, Emil Zátopek,
Zara Phillips and her fabulous horse "Toytown" and last but not least.... Boris Johnson playing whiff-whaff against Danny Boyle.

Biceps and lat strength are really important for tackling and ball retention so I wouldn't put one above the other.
Muscle imbalances - were the agonist muscle is much stronger than the antagonist - are a big cause of injury too so you certainly don't want to be training one and not the other unless you want bad elbow problems.
That must explain why the likes of Pocock have biceps bigger than my head.

Your man Hardy will more than likely get his ass handed to him Hugh but I suppose it's for charity. He looks incredibly strong in the film but he never actually fough in it like. It's for a good cause and will get people out to support so no harm.

I was bringing up names like that earlier on Micko. A fella in Pfizer called Mickey Long (seriously) you couldn't make it up. A weatherman for TV3 called Conor Clear. There's also a Doctor called Dr. Payne. He is a physio too!
Agree Hoog, she has another 7 or so races to go I think but doing well as are some other sailors O'Leary and the other chap.

Aye T 10 races on total and its done on a point basis, 1 for first 2 for second etc with the last two races (i think) awarding double points, lowest points wins
So with three points from three races she is dong the business so far

33 seconds ahead, a decent lead I take it, I suppose Leinster fans are the ones to ask about the sailing, you're all members of yacht clubs more than likely (Cork yacht clubs but D4ers are always in them)

I wonder is sailing one of the few Olympic sports where PEDs wouldn't give you a huge advantage? Obviously greater strength might help for directing but it seems to be more about the weather than anything else. I don't think great strength is required for it anyway.

Ah ok, but we're still good in the sailing yeah?
I don't catch much olmypic news while i'm in work like, but i'll watch it from when i get home till when i go to bed tonight, love it. Even herself is getting excited about it, we were picking swimmers to win based on how happy they looked when they came out, i suspect there was some perving going on from her side too, men and women all built like dudes.

It's a ten race series stag, points awarded for where you finish, 1point for first 2 for second all the way day to 41 I think. Lowest over ten races wins. Last two races are double points so it could go completely tiiits up on the last day

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
BTW I am in a good mood today.
- I have completed a massive project at work that saw me work a lot of over time
- I have two hours left before my two week break
- 48 hours until I arrive in France for Chefs Bash
And the big clincher.
- I met new Munster coach Rob Penney today. We were in a queue both buying petrol. I feel closer to the Munster team already.
Its gonna be a good year. Anyone else notice that Edinburgh did so well after I had a chat with Michael Bradley in a Cardiff coffee shop.
Coincidence .. . . .I think not!

It's a points system Stag, golf style you get 1 point for 1st, 2 for 2nd and so on . Lowest points total after I think ten wins.

Ah lads to be fair that 16 yo Chinese girl must be on something. She took 5 seconds off her PB and swan her last 50m leg quicker than the bloke who won the men's event. That's Michelle Smith fishy!!

The final bit doesn't have much relevance it's not uncommon, Lochte had the race well won and took it handy. It's a bit surprising alright though.

Honestly, I like to assume the best in people until there’s evidence to suggest that they’re on drugs. Except if they’re Irish. That’s terrible I know.

I suppose Tallaght does that to people. My mom worked there like.
Cork just makes you think you're they're best and make you think everyone else is ondrugs when you fall flat on your face for the umpteenth time.

I just assume everyone who's fitter, faster and stronger than me is on PEDs.... unfortunately that puts pretty much everyone in the red zone.

It’s more to do with the fact that the last non boxing medal that we’ve won without any cloud of controversy over doping was in the 1950’s. Pretty embarrassing particularly yerman who had the horse on gear.

Sonia? Don't remember much about doping with here, she was always close to the top of the field in long distance. She would have been doping for around 6 years. You don't go on PEDs for 6 years without getting caught. Unless they cover it up like they may or may not have done with Lance Armstrong.

There's 11 races in the Laser. 10+ medal race. She seems to be coping remarkably well so far, I would have thought 30 seconds to a minute was a relatively decent lead in sailing?

Sure cian oconnor is bad in the Olympics this year, but only because some order lad was kicked out over suspicious results. His horse was "hyper-sensitive" I don't know what that is but its not allowed
