The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the host city London, where we can watch the greatest athletes from all four corners of the globe compete in a multitude of Sports under the one thousand flame Olympic torch... each wearing the 5 coloured Olympic rings of blue, white (or black), red, yellow and green.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger) has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896.
(but not too high obviously!)
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Marcus Aurelius, Henri Didon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, Sir Steve Redgrave, Cameron Van De Burgh, Marianne Vos, Murray Rose, Jesse Owens, Emil Zátopek,
Zara Phillips and her fabulous horse "Toytown" and last but not least.... Boris Johnson playing whiff-whaff against Danny Boyle.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
Jones stopped competing seriously about a year after Olympics. Sonia was competing at a high level for 6/7 years before her medals. There was an easy to spot a pattern. Flo Jo never got caught did she? Also she retired I think after Seoul. Her death was to do with a brain condition connected to seizures and she suffocated in here sleep I think after that. Was she on them? It was an incredible cover up if she wasn't.
My point was none of these people were on PEDs for an incredibly long time if they were at all.

I read an article about the Olympians and PEDs which I shall try and find. Pretty much all of the big name athletes are on PEDs. They cycle at the right times in order to not get caught, and in some countries their national competitions won't even be strict at all with testing procedures, so that their athletes are peaking at the right times.

Id very much like to read that rors.
There was a British bloke who predicated about 12-15 years ago that the Jamaicans were all being pumped with stuff and the results would really start to begin to show around 2006-8.
Could just be a coincidence though

It could also be a coincidence that after the BALCO scandal and HGH became detectable the USA have fallen behind at track and field events and a country which has much more lax drugs testing have become the dominant force.
Or that no british sprinter has broke 10 seconds since then?
Concidence?

The country's own drugs testing can be as lax as it likes, but the international bodies who test for these things will be equally rigorous across the board.
Is it beyond the realms of possibility that, now that the knowledge of sports science in this unnamed country have risen to the level of other previously pre-eminent countries, it's simply a case that they have better athletes? A level playing field can make all the difference.

EDIT: The Dragons website has the match being played on Saturday 12th October, but the 12th is a Friday.
Sorry lucky - mad busy this afternoon. Yeah, I'll go alright. Dragons will be running coaches so you'll get back OK. We will have to bomb off in a cab after the game though. Last train back is 23:12
Get over to Italy for Mogliano, you'll love it. Following your team in Europe is great fun.

If sports science is the reason for advancement then why are athletes in certain countries getting slower?
How frequently do you think the IAAF and USADA do testing? They only test the top 50 athletes out of competition. Most drug testing is actually enforced by national governing bodies and certain countries don't have the resources to carry out this testing out of competition. Jamaica is one in that boat.
In and post competition testing is a PR exercise, nothing more.

There's already a topic on Dragons' forum about Wasps. It is a good trip. Great memories for me, travelling up in the snow not knowing whether we were on or not and then my mates and I trying to tell our wives we were in Reading, when we were on the Severn Bridge to gain an extra hours drinking
Now the fixtures are out, I'm making plans. Dragged Up have plans for
Scarlets
Wasps
Bath
Ospreys (though I wouldn't bother your arse with that)
London Welsh
Ideally I'll go for all bar Ospreys and also Cardiff Blues on the train around Christmas.

I really like that Ulster change strip. I wonder is that our European change strip or will that stay the same?
We rarely wear our change strip anyway- not many other sides in Europe sport white. We don't clash with many sides and none in the Pro12... except for Zebre now, possibly.

Notch, did you notice in that photo, the temporary stand at the Memorial End? It has been brought in for the Crusaders v Liverpool football friendly but I believe Ulster Rugby are hoping to negotiate to keep it in place until after the Munster game.
Also the Beer Tent was re-erected today in it's new forward position. (To allow for the work to start in November.)

Annalise Murphy has 4 points, girl in 2nd has 16. Ad Hoog said earlier i nthe medal race (11th) points are doubled, so if she keeps it up, she could have the thing nearly wrapped up by the final race. Fingers, toes and everything crossed!

Hmm. It would help if I knew my (performance-enhancing) onions, wouldn't it?
I've had a look at Dragged Up, Rev. I like the look of the Scarlets away in October. I'm not quite sure how I put my name down for the away trips, though.

Looking at that stand and taking into account how many would normally be standing there I'd say somewhere around 14k.

It was the slight extra reach he had on the last stroke. Went a little further from the same distance out as Phelps, Phelps has to take an extra quarter stroke and loses out

Ah thats cool- that'll be the first two home games in the Pro12. Very good. I wonder how ticket sales will go? Has/will Logan get the windfall of support he's hoped for? There's definitely a sense of excitement about the future in Ulster at the moment anyway.
