The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the host city London, where we can watch the greatest athletes from all four corners of the globe compete in a multitude of Sports under the one thousand flame Olympic torch... each wearing the 5 coloured Olympic rings of blue, white (or black), red, yellow and green.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger) has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896.
(but not too high obviously!)
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Marcus Aurelius, Henri Didon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, Sir Steve Redgrave, Cameron Van De Burgh, Marianne Vos, Murray Rose, Jesse Owens, Emil Zátopek,
Zara Phillips and her fabulous horse "Toytown" and last but not least.... Boris Johnson playing whiff-whaff against Danny Boyle.

So you are a closet GB fan after all, Thomond?
Well done to the lasses. There's more Gold in store for GB (and at least one for Oz hopefully) I'm sure.

There was never any issue there LB, it was a storm in a teacup like. Nothing against anyone, GB were having a heart attack over their performance so far when it hasn't been too bad. There is a lot of good to come from GB&NI and fingers crossed for Team Ireland. 4/5 medals would be an outstanding performance.
Also you lot know I'm immensely proud of Cork and everything but even I think this is a joke: http://www.newstalk.ie/2012/featured-5-slideshow-homepage/should-there-be-an-international-cork-day/

Boys, I can enjoy the moment, I have no illusions where we stand when it comes to the Olympics, but being ahead of GB and OZ, even for a day is CELEBRATION TIME.
Sorry if I am rubbing it in, but we are Shyte at the Olympics, so I don't often get the opportunity.

Ah you're not rubbing it in, pride in your country is never a bad thing, it can come across as arrogance at times, Americans are often guilty of it but sure that's not really a bad thing.
Ireland will hopefully catch up in the medal count if not the correct colour anyway.

I have always wondered what PED control is like in rugby. Does anyone have any information on that?
Totally agree Rory, did you ever watch that movie bigger, stronger, faster?
I think it depends on the sport but I believe PEDs are wide spread in quite a few sports especially endurance-power sports.
In terms of Rugby, I've heard PEDs are fairly widespread at amateur level in Wales. I'd be very surprised if Rugby wasn't full of PEDs, you only need to look at the physiques of the players.
If you go down to your local gym you will see people who are on anabolic steroids.
I know at least 6 people locally who I know for sure take PEDs - 3 were bodybuilders, 1 a Triathlete, 1 a cyclist and 1 a rugby player/powerlifter. All amateur-national level athletes not pros. Thats just ones who have openly admitted it.
If people use it to compete at lower levels of sports then I simply can't believe that at elite levels sport is clean.

No way Rodders, I'd almost fancy Gatlin more. Gay has only competed about 3 times this year. I would fancy Blake, Bolt doesn't seem too fit or in as good shape. Michael Johnson gave a good analysis of it yesterday on a doc on BBC3.
I wonder how good that French guy will do. First and so far only white guy to run sub 10. A final appearance would be unexpected after that he would be lucky I'd say to place.

I think Laimatre(?) will do well to make the final as will any of the brits.
Honestly don't think anyone who hasn't run sub 9.9 will struggle to get in the final.

Look it up...!!!
No, it was something about her 'having a bad day' and only losing by a very small margin. The winning time was around 0.2 secs under all of her consistent times for the year. No one else has come near those times this season. She'll bounce back. Have you seen her?
She looks and acts like a piranha!... in a funny, threatening kind of way.

Okay, so I was going to get my ears pierced again but I've decided to save the money from that and put it towards buying that jersey. I just can't down an offer as good as that for the probably the best rugby jersey I've ever come across.

Some absolute pearls there Lucky. Another huge loss.
What was that fight he had with Norman Mailer about again? I remember seeing something on it - and Vidal had some classic lines in response. The tension on the set was palpable.
Actually... think it was the Buckley altercation on air. That was full on.

A fair few places do free ear piercing, jersey will come to around £25/26 with postsge and packaging Munsty if you're getting it delivered in Britain. Some great jersies liek that on the site though, a few good comedy ones and in generla it's pretty cheap.
JJ Nevin is through to the last 8. Annalise seems to be in a spot of bother though 30th at the moment, relatviely early days but she might rule herself out of contention, any team GB news?

I'm not sure Micko, they don't do it in the stadium either I don't think I think it has something to do with not effecting the Judges decision, but that is a wild guess.

Ah you kinda know who is ahead anyway, top part of the glove and a clean hit, more or less will get you a point. The design in gloves for Beijing made it a bit easier for the fansl ike ourselves, had white parts on the top of the gloves.
