The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the host city London, where we can watch the greatest athletes from all four corners of the globe compete in a multitude of Sports under the one thousand flame Olympic torch... each wearing the 5 coloured Olympic rings of blue, white (or black), red, yellow and green.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger) has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896.
(but not too high obviously!)
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Marcus Aurelius, Henri Didon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, Sir Steve Redgrave, Cameron Van De Burgh, Marianne Vos, Murray Rose, Jesse Owens, Emil Zátopek,
Zara Phillips and her fabulous horse "Toytown" and last but not least.... Boris Johnson playing whiff-whaff against Danny Boyle.

Andlington in the 800 free was one of our banker golds though lucky. To lose it to some 15 year old who's competing at her first major championship is a bitter dissapointment. 2 golds in bejjing. 2 bronze in london. She must be gutted.

By the way, I'm furious with how the BBC is showing how medals / races were won on its prime-time Olympics show. I've emailed them, but I know they won't do anything about it.

It's true, once you give these Bath guys something to laugh at other than their rugby team they'll do anything to spare their worries about this season MORNING PJ!!
Glos vs Welsh in JP Morgan Final I reckon c'mon Glaws
Why I oughta...
Did you ever hear the one about the smortorse Glaws fan Prop?
There's this clever-trousered Glaws fan giving it the Johnny Concrete in a Bath pub, he finds a Bath fan to pick on and pins him in a corner to tell him just how good Glaws are and how they're going to beat Bath at everything next season.
"I'm so smart I'll beat you at anything says the Glaws fan, any good at quizzes?"
The Bath fan, being a simple cider-loving farmer's hand says "No, not really, I don't know much outside of rugby and farming, so I don't really want to play."
Not to be put-off the Glaws fan says, "How abouts I give you £50 for every one of your questions I get wrong, but you only give me £5 for every question of mine you get wrong? C'mon mate, that's good odds."
Well the Bath fan doesn't want to play, but the Glaws fan is having none of it and finally cajoles him into playing.
The Glaws fan goes first, "What's the circumference of the Planet Jupiter?" Asks the Glaws fan, the Bath fan doesn't even think about it and just hands over a fiver. "Your turn," says the Glaws fan, "give me your best question."
The Bath fan starts pulling faces and twisting uncomfortably for several minutes, until suddenly, his eyes light up and a slow grin spreads across his uncomplicated, honest face.
"Allrighter" he says "which England international played 83 tests, 3 while he was a Bath Player and the other 80 while playing for Glaws?"
Well that has the Glaws fan thinking and sweating for about 10 minutes, he screws his face up, shakes his head and slumps over his pint of Blackthorn, "Fair play" he says, and hands over his £50. The simple Bath fan slots it in his pocket and looks seriously chuffed with himself.
"Go on then" says the Glaws fan, "who was it?"
The Bath fan gives him a benign smile, a quick nod of his head and hands over a fiver.

Chad le Clos' da is an absolute legend, my highlight of the Olympics so far:

That right there, is one very proud dad - but what really hits the button with me is his versatility, I reckon he's a star in the making:

About time your hatred of Cork is completely irrational and based on unsubstantiated lies. We're feicing awesome bro!
A complete joke though, that fella is a known WUM and he was clearly fishing with his comments about Adlington's "underperformance" (that should explain it to those who didn't see it)
Another great day for team GB, let someones else win a few ye greedy basterds!

Evening yous all.
Just watching the olympic boxing. It's quite exciting. I like watching things that we won't normally see on cheap TV, hence I'm not watching BBC 1.

Only an Irish commentator could go on about hurling during an international boxing match which doesn't include an Irishman...

Evening all,
it's been a long time. How's everyone?
Watching the boxing I found it a little disconcerting to hear the familiar voice of Jim Neilly (sp?). So used to him doing Ulster rugby.

oooh...you might have to watch yourself Billy...sometimes things don't always come across as intended on here.
Cari World is going OK at the moment. Busy working, but have a weekend to myself now. Patiently waiting for rugby season to kick off, though I am enjoying dipping in and out of the olympics occasionally and seeing some sports I don't normally watch.

I think that tells you how things have gone! We have a hope in the sailing 2nd place but another 4 races to go. Only one boxer has lost and out best gold hasn't fought yet (Katie Taylor) most boxers are into last 8. One fella fighting now to get into that. 3/4 medals is achievable.

That's because we aren't in the medal fights in the Boxing yet. Hopefully Ireland can deliver a few medals in the boxing. There's a good Belfast representation in the Boxing team as well

We have a good culture of travellers and boxing. That may sound offensive, but a lot of our boxers come from that backround. Nothing wrong with that like but boxing is usually the sport they tend to play.

Thom- sure he's out of his depth in Ravenhill! It's going to be a very tough start to the season for him with Luke Marshall and Nevin Spence likely to start at 12 and 13
That's his purview really; boxing and rugby. Proper old-school commentator and gentleman.

Billy, so pleased things are going well for you. Sorry the matches I sent you links for weren't worth watching (well the second one was, but the 3rd was a disgrace)
Irish man , Nolan, is losing to the Russian .
Boxer from Belfast won earlier (fly weight).
Annalise Murphy is in 2nd place after 8 races in the women's Laser sailing. Not sure how anyone else is doing on the Irish team.
