The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the host city London, where we can watch the greatest athletes from all four corners of the globe compete in a multitude of Sports under the one thousand flame Olympic torch... each wearing the 5 coloured Olympic rings of blue, white (or black), red, yellow and green.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger) has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896.
(but not too high obviously!)
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Marcus Aurelius, Henri Didon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, Sir Steve Redgrave, Cameron Van De Burgh, Marianne Vos, Murray Rose, Jesse Owens, Emil Zátopek,
Zara Phillips and her fabulous horse "Toytown" and last but not least.... Boris Johnson playing whiff-whaff against Danny Boyle.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
Massive aggressiveness from the Chiefs winning 37-6. The Sharks were simply overwhelmed by a clever game plan where the high risk options in attack paid off.
So they get the coveted rugby-netball double.
On a sad note - no Gold for Australia in the pool. That's the first time since Montreal '76. Some silver though...

GB's Clancy over half a second faster than his competitors in the men's cycling omnium. That's huge.

Gooood Morning!
I've been invited to go and watch an Aussie Rules footie match between the Swansea Magpies and Cardiff Panthers near me this afternoon. I've no idea what to expect. I'm not even sure if the game will go ahead given the heavens have opened and the pitch is possibly like a bog.
Breaker - did you hear about Aussie Josh Booth being sent home? Silly bhugger.

Yes, I mentioned it on here the other day. No room for people like that. He should be flying over the Indian Ocean as we type...

That was incredibly close, Glas. The Swiss chick prevailed by 0.02, no?

Don't joke though. I've never seen so many cyclists in Cardiff as recently. Still, they're not that inspired by the olympians...they all still ride on the fecking pavement cause they're too scared to use the roads!

Going to have to nip over the shop and get the latest edition of Rugby World. "Tommy Bowe takes us on a tour around Belfast..." That could be very useful indeed...(rubs hands)

Pavement cyclists do my head in Cari. We have a specialist cycling shop below work and most of the customers insist on cycling at full tilt along the pavement to get there.

Just listening to the latest I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. The Uxbridge Dictionary is hilarious. Here's some classics from today:
Manoeuvre - an unused vacum cleaner.
Precipitate - an art gallery on a cliff.
Impair - the stuff that gets cut at a pixie barbers.
Solder - a military man with an eye missing.
Capable - two things you need to be a matador.
Buffalo - to greet someone in the nude.
Cistern - a toilet painted by Michelangelo.
Perverse - how freelance poets get paid.

Billy, the new team GWS (Greater Western Sydney) beat Port Adelaide by 34 poins this afternoon. A bit of an upset. They are coached by the legend Kevin Sheedy who coached Essendon for 27 years winning 4 Flags and winning 3 playing for the Richmond Tigers.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
Bolt had a very nice warmup jog.
(Douchebag alert)
Was in the gym, and the triathlon comes on and everyone starts cheering, stunning finish really. Met a fella who plays with City too, looked pished off too after dropping more points (think it's 18 points dropped from winning positions) and was going at it. Sound fella.
Team GB won another gold or two this morning did they? Not bad stuff lads. Our Laser girl is 6th in the current race , overall leader is 13th so (Annalise is 2nd overall) so decent start. Someone needs to generate some noise other than those Team GBers. Greedy basterds the lot of ye. Leave some medals for the smaller countries like....

Not at all mate. I was otherwise engaged watching the girl from up the road on her horse... hope she does well.
Go Annalise. Tough sport to have to win so many races.

Afternoon All.
No Aussie footie for me - we've had torrential downpours all through this afternoon, so I've been watching the games. The trampoline looked like brilliant fun, I'd love to have a go at that. Olympic trampoline is probably more technical than jumping on your bed like a five year old though.

It wouldn't be much of a spectacle in the rain, Cari. Also, those games where some expats get together for a 'bash' can be quite ugly anyway. I remember seeing some blokes playing in London a while back and it was pretty feral. It would be worse in the wet.
They go so high on those trampolines. Did anyone bounce off out of control? I saw an Aussie guy miss the bouncy bit and he landed on the edge and crumpled up. Must be shattering in more ways than one. Exit stage left for him! Poor blighter...

Trampolining (is that a word?) is probably the funnest sport in the Olympics. GAA on now so feic the Olympics for a while, good luck to Rob Heffernan of Cork and Ireland in the 20k walk. His wife is competing in the Olympics too I think that's a first.

Hope they get their arse handed to them but given that they were handed the easiest draw in GAA history and a pish easy route to the final that won;t happen. A real joke by the GAA, Dubs could win their title by playing only one good team team all year. A farce.

Dunno what's happening in yer, so do apologise if I miss anything important. I can't read back.
Out in Calgary again for ten days. I love this city. Also had a nightstop in Hannover, which was amazing going back after 6 years away (from when I lived there). Beers to drink this afternoon (I am 7 hours behind).

Would hope you'd like to see him excel as he is competing for the whole Island, not just that he is a local lad! But can understand if you don't. Same with me following the NI lads who go for GB.
Best of luck to Ennis, Faah and the long jumpers tonight, GB havign a stormer so far, keep doing what you're doing!
