The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the host city London, where we can watch the greatest athletes from all four corners of the globe compete in a multitude of Sports under the one thousand flame Olympic torch... each wearing the 5 coloured Olympic rings of blue, white (or black), red, yellow and green.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger) has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896.
(but not too high obviously!)
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Marcus Aurelius, Henri Didon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, Sir Steve Redgrave, Cameron Van De Burgh, Marianne Vos, Murray Rose, Jesse Owens, Emil Zátopek,
Zara Phillips and her fabulous horse "Toytown" and last but not least.... Boris Johnson playing whiff-whaff against Danny Boyle.

The racist thing is a controversial subject I don't know if he used it to offend but he should have been banned for longer for it. No place for it in sport, even if you're not trying to be offensive.

I'm feeling great after a tough fitness session, legs a bit wobbly during it but finished well.

Sounds more like too much volume (multiple reps) rather than too much weight. Normally lifting heavy does not leave you with that kind of muscular soreness.

It's more than likely doing too much alright, you can get it a bit from a heavy weight but it doesn't last too long.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
Lifting heavy is often hugely taxing on the nervous system, and will leave you feeling wrecked, but muscular soreness like Willy describes is usually an indicator of too much volume, not too much weight. Hence why circuits or bodybuilding type training can leave your muscles completely sore for days, and why bodybuilding routines often only train one body part per week. They need the full 7 days rest to recover that particular muscle.
This is also why I think most bodybuilding style training is crap.

Yeah, that was kind of what I said, you get pains but last a hell of a lot longer with more reps. I will be feeling sore tomorrow anyway

Has to be Wellington and somewhere in Western Europe, I would go for Lisbon or Madrid. Not 100% where they are in relation to each other.

That’s a cracking question. The thing is that the circumference at the equator is bigger than any of the lines of longitude because the earth bulges in the middle a little (like me) so it could well be two places on the equator.

Willser this is DOMs man, read up on it. It is perfectly normal if you are doing unaccustomed exercise, especially eccentric. It will peak after a two or three days and then the next time you do the same session it won't be anywhere near as bad.
What happens is your CNS is not used to a particular excercise so doesn't recruit enough muscle fibres so the ones that are get torn and damaged, basically you are not using your muscles efficiently. There are some other reasons but this is the main one.
After a few sessions your brain understands the movement so is more efficient at recruiting the individual fibres. Thats why when you start a new exercise you improve very quickly, your brain is learning how to perform the exercise. When you switch to a new exercise, even if you are fit and strong anyways, its best to use a low resistance/high reps to minimise the muscle damage. 8-12 reps causes most damage hence this is what bodybuilders use.
Wait until the pain subsides, possibly up to 3-4 days to perform those particular exercises again. I guarantee after 3 sessions you will be doing them with much heavier resistance and you won't feel anywhere near as sore.
If this doesn't work take up Salsa or something easier....

They've been trialling a wedge-tailed eagle at the MCG... they had a shot of it the other day with it's handler in the rain up on the roof.
They both looked so miserable. The guy in his rain-suit with hood... and the bird looked pi55ed off too. The gulls didn't front up that night.
There's actually 2 there - Zorro and Sabrina.

A bit of a risk - so they're relying on 4 seamers? Who would be the 5th slow bowler then? Taylor can do some leg breaks but surely he wouldn't be effective at this level... so that leaves just KP?

Hmm thats the tricky part....
Promoting bloodflow should speed up recovery a bit. Things to try would be alternating hot and cold (very) shower, doing some light ot moderate aerobic exercise - swimming, running, Some stretching or even a light weights session. Some or all of this should help but I make no guarantees...
Make sure you are well hydrated and are eating well too.
If you are totally busted and in agony then some NSAIs like Iboprofen might help but I wouldn't really recommend that. Pain is your body telling you it is feiced.
The good news is in a couple of days you will be stronger than you were before

If you do the alternating hot cold thing right you should feel a tingling sensation in your muscles, this is called the 'lewis effect' and means you are getting a blood rush into your muscles which will help flush out toxins and get oxygen into your limbs.
Does it work? No idea but sure you'll have fun trying....
If that fails anabolic steroids will definitely work.
