Olympics Day 9
First topic message reminder :
Right, someone else fill this in if need be. I need to get my breath back, I need to calm right down. 6 golds on Day 8, we've wiped Atlanta away, more golds today, come on sailors, come on Christine, come on Andy, come on Louis Smith, LET'S SMASH 20!

Clancy has done the fastest time in the time trial and I believe he's taken the Bronze medal!
EDIT: Confirmed Bronze Medal for Clancy and GB.

Re: Olympics Day 9
Yeh Clancy for the Bronze...and sadly only a Silver for Robson & Murray!! That service of Robson's is so inconsistent...shame really as she is fabulous when she is on it...also anyone who says it doesn't mean much to pro tennis players take a look at Murray & Robson who are gutted to have missed out on Gold their.
But regards another Medal for GB to continue our Sumptuous Sunday..
Yep I believe that is correct Duty..
Not a bad follow up day at all...
And maybe couple of outside chances tonight in the 400m with Christine & the Womens Triple Jump final aswell.

Re: Olympics Day 9
Is it wrong to say that today has been slightly disappointing - Percy and Simpson should have taken gold, Louis Smith was so close (and unlucky), Clancy made his task too difficult in the scratch race, and Murray/Robson looked well on course after the first set (although to be fair, Myrni and Azarenka played a lot better in the 2nd set and CTB).

Re: Olympics Day 9
Dummy and anyone else who even thinks about calling today dissapointing??....why even bring a downer on it...in answer to your question, no dont be daft..
Sailing is so unpredictable it is never a dead cert that the Gold is tied up and won until the very end of the final race.
You alluded to it that Smith was unlucky. He put in an incredible performance and could not have done anything else...
Clancy was in an 6 event race...having already done both pursuits. He hasn't been training for this at all so was always against it with the two endurance races proving to be key...medal of any kind was a good result.
Then the tennis...well kudo's for Murray/Robson getting their. Again they were up against it given the fact Murray has played 5 perhaps 6 (not quite sure) matches in the last 3 days..
I would say an excellent day all around for Britain once again!!!
Their really is no pleasing Brits is their....extremely sad to even read such thoughts!!

Re: Olympics Day 9
Just look at Del Potro's reaction to winning Bronze- I think it's obvious that most tennis players care just as much about the Olympics as the "Slams"

Did anyone think we'd get multiple tennis medals at the start of the games? Gold and Silver is a truly amazing feat

Just got back from a fantastic afternoon at the Gymnastics. Sooooooooo gutted that Louis Smith didn't get a gold medal.... it couldn't have been closer.
The atmosphere was brilliant and everybody had such a great time.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.

An excellent assessment, Owen.
It's amazing how quickly some people start to take things for granted. I remember Atlanta when we only picked up one gold in the entire Games (Steve Regrave and Matt Pinsent.... wouldn't ya just know it).
Now we are so competitive that we either pick up medals, or at the very least, are in the mix. What a change from the time when British athletes were in the "not the winning but the taking part" category.
Everybody in this British team is busting a gut to succeed, but sometimes, the other guy is just that little bit better. It happens. Roll with it.

Asafa Powell third, he'll need to qualify as one of the two fastest losers.

Usain Bolt qualifies in 9.87 seconds and first place. Bailey second with 9.96. Chambers misses out in fourth.

for Chambers their...didn't like what he did but he has shown remorse coming back, he has worked hard & more importantly now goes out and teaches people not to do what he did.
Quite happy to see him sign off like that.

Re: Olympics Day 9
Wow Gemili.....given it was a pretty horrendous start that was an impressive 10.06 ...could have been a 10.00 flat if he had been out quicker.
He has a great future ahead of him.
Think the lane draw is going to have a huge impact on how this 100m final goes..can't tell anything based on that..
Powell will not be in it so it will be between Bolt,Blake,Gay & Gatlin... Going to stick with my original prediction
Gatlin
Bolt
Blake.....
But think we could see something very special from Bolt.
Yeh in terms of the Olympics Freekshow...Chambers will run some meets etc but that's it for his individual Olympics...just the relay to go. I don't expect him anywhere near Rio at least not as a representative.
