Olympics Day 9
First topic message reminder :
Right, someone else fill this in if need be. I need to get my breath back, I need to calm right down. 6 golds on Day 8, we've wiped Atlanta away, more golds today, come on sailors, come on Christine, come on Andy, come on Louis Smith, LET'S SMASH 20!

Apparently he's not that popular in the states. He must have been with the BBC for 10 years now. I remember him covering the commonwealth games in Manchester.

Does anyone else wish sprinters in the qualifying would stop with this looking around and slowing down nonsense? I think its very disrespectful to the other competitors who are trying their hardest to qualify when the people at the front start slowing down to a jog and looking around them as if to say look how great i am.

Interesting fact I just found out about the Water Polo. No one gets eliminated from the Group stage. What's the point of it then? Regardless, GB are in the Quarters tonight!

Yeah why lay up and conserve energy for the final?

I agree. I think as an athlete in the Olympics you should always try your hardest and always respect your fellow competitors. Strolling through the finish is disrespectful to your competitiors, the crowd and the spirit of the Olympics.

Re: Olympics Day 9
I think that was the best 100m race ever. Bolt only came through in the last 40 metres. The rest were quite close to him, Blake, Gatlin, Gay.

Re: Olympics Day 9
Wrote this in the rugby pub but think it applies will have a read over tomorrow, relaxing by the beach now!:
A quick stop from the beach to say Bolt, a legend. Slow starter he wins the race between 10-30 and strengthens from 30-50. Andy Murray congrats lad, took it to Fed and beat him, didn't see it but he sounded dominant. I like the lad, great player just can't back him due to the feicing media hype does my head in. Still he can beat the big guys in 5, that should give him great hope going into the USO. Turn it on when it matters Andy!
Also John Joe, you freaking hero, outstanding footwork, nimbleness and maneuverability he boxed clever didn't get involved in a brawl and hit the Mexican well. Thought the shot that knocked him was borderline low punch but doesn't matter. He looked comfortable and thought he could have won by a few more. He can get to the final.
Saw some lifter go down Rors, looked feicing awful getting into it a bit but beach volleyball is where it's at! Enthralling stuff from Kessie/Ross and the Czechs

In fairness, i actually thought that Blake would get him this time. Not from doubting Bolt's ability but more from believing in Blakes ability.

Billy
200m could be interesting between Blake and Bolt. Remember Blake is 'only a 9.75s 100m runner, so an on form Bolt is 1.5 to 2m ahead, Over 200, Bolt at his best is just below 19.20, Blake just over, and there is still a suspicion that Bolt isn't on his best form for the extra endurance needed over the 200.
Having said that, I don't think Bolt has reached his potential as a 200m runner, where I think he could run 19.0. I don't think he's going to move the 100m record much lower though, as I think his World Champs run was close to perfection.

Watch out for the Dutch guy in the 200mtr dummy_half, he is very handy and could be worth a medal. Got 6th in the 100mtrs but that is his weakest.
