The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Mendoza
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Mendoza - the city at the foothills of the Andes and one of the venues for the inaugural Rugby Championship.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Rory McIlroy, Sam Cane, Juan José Imhoff, Eben Etzebeth, Jake Schatz and Rob McCusker.

It can be decent alright for keeping in touch with people, sports sites, news sites etc. Like most social networks can become tiresome or a waste of time, I think it's alright though.

I went to see the two Northern Irish boxers have their reception at City Hall.
Great crowd turned up.
I'll put up a couple of photos on FB later.

Is the Titanic exhibition in the City Hall? I was surprised they didn't have it in the City Hall, but I heard it was in the Titanic Centre. Now it all makes sense!

They seem like a lovely grounded couple, but yeah, I agree, they will be hounded by skangers and chancers. They will have to move. Even then, people will track em down.
Dumb decision to go public.
Mo and I would spend most of it bringing water, education, clothes and diginity to as many deprived people in the 3rd World as we could. We've always said that.
I wouldnt give a cent to Charity organisations. Massive waste of money on admin. Rather do it ourselves.
I'd have the RDS rebuilt and name it Gibbo Stadium. Ha!

Of course not, I respect everyone (if they respect me) but the people that know me - know that. Some dumb mid-west Yanks, Ultra-Christian and Islamic funda-mentalists may not agree with me. In fact, that's why I shut down my old Youtube account. I was getting virtual death-threats from both sides. Which I think was fair comment.

I think you mean Deep South Yanks. Some are insane, but I think a lot of people give USA way too much flak in some regards. As for Youtube, reading comments on videos is fun and sad. Funny as people are idiots sad because a lot of people are racist, sexist and well just ignorant and moronic. Getting a death threat on Youtube is almost a rite of passage

Ahaa, ja, I can relate to that mo chara. Big Time. Just send me the cheque and I'll work from home roysh? ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
As for giving back to those I came from, yer not far wrong. I was born in Summerhill (next to Croke Park). Ask any Dub about it. When we moved to Killester (I was 5/6) we thought we'd moved to the country. Its only 4 km from the City Centre.
We got a bit posh roysh. Moved on up to custard-creams instead of Marietta bisquits. Big leap.

T,
I don't think 188 mill is enough to rehabilitate Limerick or to give Cork enough salt for the amount of shoulder-chips in it. In all fairness.

Dublin would be in the Extreme Home Makeover category I think. Cork? Well you could update our stadium a bit. There's enough salt and vinegar in Jackie's and KC's for our chips. Doubtcha Boy!

Afternoon all, just a quick hello to one and all from the Outer Hebrides. Good t'interfeic up here, but no phone signal! Spending the days with the kids on the beach, even when it's pouring and blowing a gale, just reading and relaxing in the evening. Off to see where my old fella was born tomorrow, weird to show the kids the tiny croft (black house). Hope everyone is happy and thriving - for you punters:

Okay, question for the pub. I'm going interrailing next Summer with one friend. We are going to be mainly in Western and central Europe. At the moment, the furthest east we are travelling to is Budapest.
So the question is, what recommendations do people have? I'm looking for things that wouldn't be so well known. Preferably nice little towns not so infested with tourists or beautiful scenic places.
Many thanks in advance.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Mendoza
Luxembourg isn't touristy and it's a nice old city.
Almost anywhere in Austria is lovely, scenery wise, but the locals are basically German rednecks.
It depends where your entry point into Europe is, but Antwerp is much better than Brussels imo. Liege is another lovely city, but pricey around the main square.
What can you say about France; so many different parts to explore. Carcassone if you find yourself that far south. Also Limoges on the way down there.
Ulm near Munich is also nice, and has a wonderful cathedral. Heidelberg ditto.
Italy - ask Penfro. He's been there often enough.
I've never been to the old Eastern bloc countries, but Croatia's coastline and unspoilt towns are apparently worth a visit.
Maybe look up some of the Rough Guide stuff; they are pretty good.
Sorry - that lot is not in any geographical order for travelling by train.

You can't really win for not touristy places in Europe though. Riga was one, but not so much now. Funny how things snowball through word of mouth. I'd have liked to have seen more of Skopje though.
Morning all. I'm back. Really jetlagged though. Haven't slept yet since I got back. So annoying.

Bore da pawb / good morning all. There are so many places on the continent I want to visit. I'd start with Germany I think, and then the Baltic states. Vilnius is meant to be a great little city.
Welcome back, Rev. I'm hoping to go to the London Irish game on Saturday, but because I'm paying for my season ticket in installments and the last installment hasn't left my account yet, I still don't have my season ticket. I phoned the ticket office about it last week and they said they'd print out a ticket for the match and post it to me. Has it arrived yet? Has it guffnuts. I'll have to get on to them again later.

No, no Hound, that is good. Honestly, I'd just like to hear what people personally liked and then I can check those place out myself. What I'm looking for is little small places that are off the overly beaten track. Part of the excitement is to go to some pretty random places. At the moment, we are thinking of going to Vaduz in Liechtenstein.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Mendoza
Morning all
Munsty, I'd agree with Heidelberg... beautiful place. Nice little towns up the Neckar towards Wurzburg (rail line goes through there) into Bayern. Bamberg is a very nice town too... plenty of history to explore there.
If you get as far as Hungary - try Esztergom which was the medieval capital. It has a nice old Basilica above the historic 'water town'. Only 30k people and it is a well-kept secret holiday destination for the folks of Budapest. Also Visegrad (sp.?) Fond memories of both. Lake Balaton is a bit further away but some nice scenery there too.

Thank you so much for those suggestions. I'll have to check those out.
Weather here is awful.
