The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Mendoza
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Mendoza - the city at the foothills of the Andes and one of the venues for the inaugural Rugby Championship.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Rory McIlroy, Sam Cane, Juan José Imhoff, Eben Etzebeth, Jake Schatz and Rob McCusker.

PJ, saw your response to Portnoy's thread lambasting my plea for votes. Have to say it did make me chuckle. He's always been eccentric Portnoy, but I am starting to understand where he is coming from less and less these days.
Anyway, hope everyone has had a good weekend.
Portnoy is a curmudgeonly old Tigger Oz
You've more chance of picking up Mandarin Chinese in 5 minutes than understanding him.
I understand im. He's an angry young old man who hates all things establishment. The feiced-up articulation of which, yes, its hard to work out the thinking behind it. But Im afraid, I can. Most times.
Weird eh?
It's Portnoy's logic that fails him bud, his ideals are fine.
He's the type of bloke that would cut a horse in half, bang the two ends together and then write a letter to his MP because it didn't make a noise like someone ridin a feckin' coconut.
And he's a Tigger.
I'm pretty sure he's a Tigger all the time Biltong.

Hound, I would be honoured to share all your company, but on Sat I am off to Crosskeys for a photo with the Swalec and then back to Risca for a memorial for one of my local legend's two year anniversary of his passing. Sorry to put a sad point on it, but he came to my important dates like weddings, was my old football and rugby coach and I missed his funeral two years ago as I had to go to Afghan.
God bless you Steve and I'm sorry for posting such a soppy post. On a happier note, when I was in Afghan last year, on Christmas Day, BFBS Radio played Robbie Williams, Angels which was his singalong song. Comforted me no end while I felt alone without my family.
Enjoy that anyway, you gits you'll never see me as sentiment again. Big gentle giant really!

I'm only kidding Penfro, I know you always look after us Welsh, English and Scots guys. Otherwise we'd all be roped into this Hiberno-centric stuff
I hope I remember to request a photo of Big Steve for the next pub for the anniversary. Ex Crosskeys and Risca RFC manager too, so a big rugby man.
Hopefully see you all for a meet soon.

See, this is why we love so much. Not soppy. You lost a friend, you mourn his passing and you are remembering him with affection. That's the mark of a real man. And it means he lives on.

Here Gibbo, with regards to that soppy post, when we heard about his death two years ago, I was playing a song that you reintroduced to me and when my dad and I were together on that awful day, I played it and we have now adopted it as another song. Excuse the sound at the start, as it's quite loud.

So thanks again my friend. A nice happy song to remember the good times.
Sorry all again.

Ooh wow. Best of luck with that. Im doing final checks hoping to launch a new website I designed today.
Literally had the worst hangover of my life yesterday. Nothing would cure it. Here is a list of things I tried:
- Drinking Water
- Taking Painkillers
- Drinking Coca Cola
- Eating Ice Cream
- Eating Burger King
- Going for a long walk
- Going for a nap
- Going to the Gym
None of them worked. I never get hungover to anything near that extent. Might have been man-flu mascarading as booze fuelled symptoms.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Mendoza
Nah not really. I was on holiday myself in France for nearly 2 weeks. Was with Mick the Chef for 5 days and then was 7 days up on the coast for a bit of a beach holiday.
Threw my parents a big surprise party at the weekend. Their 25th anniversary is coming up. I've sorted out a trip to Rome for them too so they are really chuffed to bits.
That aside just looking forward to the rugby season kicking off again. I think Ulster will have a good year. Leinster I think will stumble a little. Munster are confusing me.
I think we will have a poor start to the season but I'd like to think this is the start of a generation. We have a LOT of very young players coming through across the board and a coach who seems open to playing them. There was an awful lot of change over the last 12 months at Munster. Its weird to think that in 12 months we have seen the likes of Fogarty, Flannery, Hayes, Buckley, O'Driscoll, Wallace, Leamy, Quinlan, O'Leary, Mafi etc all leave.
Its definately the start of a new generation. O'Connell, Howlett and O'Gara are really all that is left of our Heineken Cup winning teams and I think the latter two only have about 12 months left in them.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Mendoza
Yeah, the new season starts next weekend, happy days, the small matter of the All Ireland semi final against Mayo to get through first though, luckily that’s on Sunday and won’t interfere with Leinster’s first game of the season. We took an awful hiding last weekend in Northampton, hope we don’t get off to another slow start this year.
I see Munster beat Bristol, didn’t catch the score though.

We used to have a Lotto syndicate at work and for a month or two I was buying physical tickets and handing them over to be checked, before I realised it was much easier to buy them online. It did cross my mind that the shopkeeper could easily lie and say there were no winnings on a ticket when actually there were. But how low can you get, trying to scam a pensioner like that.

We just have the ticket scanners at the door of the shop rather than behind the counter, they must have thought Irish people would exploit that con from the start

Evening pub. Monday down.
I know we can't read too much into pre season friendlies, but Treviso have had a couple of decent results. They did my lot quite convincingly, although we had most of our better players absent.
The win against a strong Saracens side at the weekend was impressive. How do the Pro Direct fans think Treviso will do in the league?

Only reason McDonalds exists my friend. Literally eat as much greasy food as possible. My record set it July would honestly turn me any other time of day. 5 chicken selects 2 large fries and 2 double cheeseburgers. Optimal time for meal? 2pmish. I have this down to an art.

If I have learned anything from Gibbo in 2/3 years it's that McDonald's sole purpose is to rob peasant farmers blind while they take their land and continuous world wide growth destroys local cuisine and only serves to line the pockets of some fat cat who can't fit over 10 grand into his 6300 dollar pants (Come on!). Bloody yanks.
First time I have voluntarily missed a City match in about 2/3 year and they look like they might win for a change! Training with low numbers is always worse. Less breaks for them sprints, did alright though.

The only thing is if you want to try a different pub, you need to get in a boat.
Tresco is lovely and you can walk round it in a couple of hours. A week will be more than enough though.
More ships wrecked round those islands than any similar sized area on earth I think.

Stag, the only real cure for hangover is to sleep it off completely. Take painkillers and water or preferably a sugary drink and sleep at least 4 hours. Anything else might help for an hour or twobut that's it.
Oh, or alcohol. Get smashed again and it covers the effects of hangover which are just rebound alcohol effects plus dehydration. Then prevent the second hangover with water and adequate rest
