First topic message reminder :

Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The Pub has made its way to Mendoza - the city at the foothills of the Andes and one of the venues for the inaugural Rugby Championship.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Rory McIlroy, Sam Cane, Juan José Imhoff, Eben Etzebeth, Jake Schatz and Rob McCusker.

Wasps are Bath's first home game, will you be making the trip up the M4 Hound?

Cheers CJ.

Losing Broster is a blow, not sure we have a decent enough th. Tim Payne was pretty good last season at 2, and Lindsay should push on.

Wentzel, Birkett, and Joe Launchbury will see is ok at lock. And I agree our back row could be outstanding.....could be.

No issues with the backs if they stay fit. Chris Bell is a very under rated centre, with a great undertstanding with Wade.

Shug is skipper for the season, so solid if unspectacular at full back. I expect Jack Wallace to get game time there as well.

I still think it will be a couple of years for it all to gel. Plus we have had too few real leaders on the park since Dallaglio, Vickery, Waters, Ibanez, Lewsey (shoite, I'm gonna stop there) hung up their boots.

Sorry PJ, I won't make the Bath game. It's Ealing's first home game, and I'll be going to that.

Night all. zzzzzzzzs beckon.

One to thank my late Dad for Hug. I'm ashamed to say I had a phase in my teens when I foolishly thought I hated it. I was so wrong. It spoke to me when I was a little kid and spoke again when I was mature enough to not give a rats ass what anyone else thought. Fortunately the time between those two periods was mercifully brief and I came to my senses pretty quickly!

This is my favourite Baez track. I took my mum to see her about 2 years ago and she was amazing. I would (almost) literally kill to have a voice like hers.

Wooohooooo first post this morning.

Currently on route back from the land of the scots. Security did a full search of my car for drugs/bombs/bodies before they'd let me on. Searched through my boot, made me take my luggage out so they could check my spare tyre, made me pop the hood, used that wee mirror job to check underneath and then finished it off by frisking me. Talk about excessive like?

I was just wondering the same. But seeing as the jukebox is free ...

Between waterloo and Clapham junction there are the roasting houses of both Costa Coffee and Cafe Nero, they both give off the most beautiful smell as you pass them on the train.

Fantastic smell isn't it Hoog. That post has just taken me waaay back! Very Happy There used to be a little shop in the centre of Sheffield called Pollards that sold its own coffee. My mum used to buy her coffee beans from there, and that smell is indelibly linked to my childhood Very Happy. The shop has gone now but I believe they still have their roasting house elsewhere in Sheffield.

Did you have a good time Munster? Hope the weather was kind to you.

Glad you enjoyed it Munster, apart from the sunburn. Did you not take suncream?... Ok, I'm starting to sound like your mum now, I'll stop. Camping when it's raining isn't fun. Damp sleeping bags are cold!!

That's a good description Hoog but there's something else to it that I can't quite work out. I'm going to have to head to the roasting house next time I'm home and see if I can figure it out.

Hound, vinegar factory?! <eyeswatering>

There's a Bassetts factory in Sheffield (at least I assume it's still there) and that just has a really sickly sweet smell.

Really Hound? I'm struggling to imagine that. I grew up not too far from Ward's Brewery, and my nan lived just up the road in her later years. I didn't expect a vinegar factory to smell like that!? Have to confess I never really liked the smell from Ward's, somewhat cloying.

Go for it Hoog, perfect photo opportunity by the city sign! Very Happy

I discovered recently that there is a place in Norfolk called Swannington! How did I miss that when I was down that way recently! Rolling Eyes Instantly made me think of Mickado. If you see this Mick, you'll understand Very Happy

Swanny,

Don't worry, everyone else was berating me for bot putting it on.

Hughie,

I have been to the Isles of Scilly and honestly they are the most beautiful part of Britain I have been to. Loved the holiday I had there.

littleswannygirl wrote:Really Hound? I'm struggling to imagine that. I grew up not too far from Ward's Brewery, and my nan lived just up the road in her later years. I didn't expect a vinegar factory to smell like that!? Have to confess I never really liked the smell from Ward's, somewhat cloying.

Go for it Hoog, perfect photo opportunity by the city sign! Very Happy

I discovered recently that there is a place in Norfolk called Swannington! How did I miss that when I was down that way recently! Rolling Eyes Instantly made me think of Mickado. If you see this Mick, you'll understand Very Happy

OMG, Wards (part of Vaux from Sunderland) was shoite. No wonder it smelled bad Wink

Thankfully Yorkshire produces some great beers nowadays.

Oh that makes me feel better Munster, thank you. I hate to sound like an old fart but it's a little personal crusade of mine. I wear sun screen 70% of the year now but it took skin damage to make me really appreciate the need for it. It's boring and time consuming but you'll be thankful in the long term.

I remember you talking about the Isles of Scilly Munster, you started me off thinking about the place. OK

Hoog, I think you're mixing your cannys! Cannae = cannot. Canny = cautious, shrewd.

As is best placed to confirm but I'm half Geordie and lots of Geordie words/expressions are nicked from north of the border!

Fair point Hound, no arguments from me! Never touched the stuff myself, even though it was available in pretty much every single pub in Sheffield (not a surprise really). Newcastle Brown Ale was my poison of choice for many years, I blame my Geordie mum, though she never really drank it! My grandfather did though Very Happy

Bore da pawb / good morning all, today is my Friday and I'm so fecking glad about it! Yahoo

It's been such a busy week here - both phones ringing all day. I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow when there's no one here to answer them, but hey ho.

littleswannygirl wrote:Fantastic smell isn't it Hoog.

When I was little (before my youngest sister came along, so I was four or five) we used to go into town shopping as a family every Saturday morning. We'd always go to a cafe called the Coffee Pot (I'm pretty sure it's not there any more) where I had a bottle of Coke with a straw. The smell of coffee still reminds me of those days.

Lady Catherine of Swannington. Laugh

I think i've found a new member of the "people in my company with really silly names" group. Tom Von Horn will be joining, Ash Rasher, Otto Von Deth and Harry Treblecock.
