The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, The Patch
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to The Patch - a tiny rugby union* community nestled in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne in the week before the AFL Grand Final.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Willie Falloon, Joel Conlon, Peter Murchie, Lewis Jetta, Lance "Buddy" Franklin and Frazier Climo.

If anyone in the UK/Ire wants to watch or record the Aussie Rules GF - Hawthorn v Sydney Swans - it's on ESPN at 04:30 Sat morning; according to an email I just received from ESPN.
Not sure if that's the 'bounce up' (or whatever 'kick off' is called), or the programme start.

Getting anxious about tomorrow. Dog comes to live with me for over 2 weeks. Total immersion. Only way to face fear. It is arriving at 6am tomorrow morning.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, The Patch
Stag - insist on feeding the dog, but keep it away from its food until you say it can have it. Placing the dog in a different room while you're dishing it up is the best way.
The dog will see you as a friend, and a necessity.

Hound tomorrow im working but I'll be alone with it all day Saturday so will have to walk/feed it that day. That will be the acid test.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, The Patch
You have to make sure the dog knows its place, but in a way that it trusts and appreciate's you.
I'm not sure what it has been used to - i.e. spoilt or brought up 'properly'. Properly being a very subjective word when it comes to pets.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, The Patch
I was always told as a child Stag, to make sure the dog knew that you were their boss.
i.e don't get down to their level. Use your height as an advantage (clearly this was more important for a young kid who was of similar size to said family dog, but still the same concept should work). Dog's are pack animals and will recognise authority, they just need to learn their place in the pecking order.
Hound's suggestion about the food sounds good to me. Tone of voice works too. Sure just pretend you're telling off a rugby player like you do when you're a ref and you should be fine
And evening all. Debating whether to go on the exercise bike or not. Suppose I should really....

I was just wondering how Stag is going to cope for two weeks with a whammel in his life... it's not normal.

Gibbo,
If you're still about and read this, are you in de Dam on 9th October? If you are, and you can, get yourself down to Melkweg, wherever that is. Just discovered one of my favourite musicians, Richard Hawley, is playing there that night. You'll love him. Cari will concur

A fear of dogs is a tough one. Most people love them and are in no way understanding. This will either be a great moment or the stuff that great sitcoms are made of.

A phobia is a phobia Stag, when I rip out a kitchen and a spider bolts from under a cab, I Poopie myself. People look at me like I'm stupid running from a tiny wee spider, but I can't rationalise it.
I understand and I admire you for having the courage to give it a go.
Staggy and Hooch.

Aw come on stag. How can a wee Schnauzer terrify one of Munstet's finest?
STAND UP AND FIGHT!
TO THE BRAVE AND THE FAITHFUL ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
Even mastering a mutt not known for its aggressive tendencies.
Dogs are like wee 'uns. They need feeding and emptying and a few toys to amuse themselves with.

I know the feeling! At 6 foot 4 or so, people don't understand why I am terrified of a wee spider. I can't help it though.
What sort of dog is it Stag?

Arr, yowm on the right road theer Swanny, riffy = stinky or darety, Flays am them little jumpin jacks that nip, lodgers fer whammels.
To put the vernacular in it's correct context, one might say, for instance:
"Mek shuwer yower whammel ay got flays befower yow let it in yer yard, Stag."
