The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, The Patch
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to The Patch - a tiny rugby union* community nestled in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne in the week before the AFL Grand Final.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Willie Falloon, Joel Conlon, Peter Murchie, Lewis Jetta, Lance "Buddy" Franklin and Frazier Climo.

Loving that I called the Connacht and Treviso wins, just shows what home advantage means in this league. Wish I hadn't neglected my SuperBru picks for the last three weeks now because I've had a good week but I'm miles off the pace.

Nope Gareth Davies and Maule I think. Priestland was superb full credit to him.
Notch - Treviso were v v good in the 2nd half, Scarlets had to defend for nearly all of it.
Still, two lapses in concentration cost us that. Really gutted. Got a LBP though, so we've still picked up points in every game so far this season.

The Scarlets are still 2nd in the table with one point less than Ulster. Not to be sniffed at. Just seen the highlights. Treviso's second try was superb.

nice one Prop
Cari - aye, 2nd is fab (Ulster have a game in hand over us too mind), and we've actually never won out in Treviso before so it isn't too much of a shock result, just really annoying that we threw it away after such a big lead!

Well done Prop!
Although, is it fair to play your first's prop on the 2s?
Well done the Os. Comprehensive victory.
Can anyone explain why Munster were so keen to keep throwing it about after the clock went red? Surely stopping the opposition from getting a TBP was the only sensible thing to do at that point?
Didn't see the game in Italy.
Sounds like Penfro will be happy anyway. An Os win and he's in Italy!

You were only playing for the 2s prop.
Sounds like a 12+ try win. Did you get on the score sheet?

It doesn't mean much coming from such a one-eyed, partisan Ulster fan as myself... but I've got a feeling this might be the year we end our trophy drought.
Hell of a long way to go, a massive distance to knockouts and playoffs it's still far too early to talk about qualifying for. Which makes what I said both mad and arrogant. But I can't help it! I just have a feeling...
I guess we could get screwed if Paddy Jackson gets injured because we've a serious lack of quality at 10 if he isn't there. But even if we have to move Pienaar to 10, we could cope now I think.
Time will tell. It's a stupid thing to say, because nothing is won in September. I know I'm stupid saying it now. I just have a wild hare.

Those games against Treviso are a torture.
You feel you probably should win them so there is no huge pleasure if you do just relief. Real banana skins.
Why did the balance change in the scrum Dreamer? Was it a personnel change?

For the last 20 mins aye, but their forwards just really fronted up in the 2nd halfp. To be fair scrums weren't the biggest problem (our defensive one with 5 mins to go with foxy in the backrow was good!), the maul really, really hurt us.

Not stupid at all Notch. Ulster seem to have a massive desire about them this season. Maybe born out of the disappointment of the HC final.
I've not seen a game, so these comments are based on various match reports.

True Rodders. I'd be proud to be 3rd best province for a second. I think its kinky. But that's just me.
Its so tough at the top nowadays.
Loved to see Treviso and O's continue this season of PRO12 madness.
The Jeff is the X-Factor compared our Night Of The Proms.
PRO12 is getting a wee bit too horny if ya don't mind me saying so. Nice.
Time to sleep, perchance to fantasise. Will Leinster wake up in time for Munster? Will Munster even attempt to play sexshy rugby v the Masters? Who knows? Tune in next week when ya will hear ROG say, "Ah sure we'll give it an aul lash. And that Sexton is an uppity pup!"
Munster are in for a very bad beating. All the signs are there.

Sleep tight Gibbo.
There's a long road ahead still. I know exactly how you feel but with different teams of course. One team has a bad run or gets eliminated, another will rise and win a few on the trot.
In my case, the Wallabies and Manly fall short but the Swans and Oz Cricket are showing some healthy signs.
Nothing to really worry about with Leinster though; they won't be 'down' for long . They'll bounce back when it counts most likely. Good to have this sort of healthy competition.
It's very rare I get through a weekend with all of my teams (across all codes) winning; 2/3 (or 66.67% Glas ) is still a good result sometimes. I'd be happy with that kind of success rate over a long period of time.
Your team can't win every match all year but there's always some other team (maybe in another code or just a team you don't mind seeing doing well) who will go all the way and spring a surprise. (Like Newtown have just done... the mighty Blue Bags!)
Brilliant day here. Cool overnight but clear and sunny this afternoon. About 20 deg. C now.
Grand Final Day has already begun. Balmain-Ryde-Eastwood* Tigers leading Newtown Jets 18-16 in the NSW Cup (feeder clubs to NRL)
It's great that these guys get to play at the Olympic Stadium. Only 5,000 or so there now but expecting 84,000 later.
Canberra Raiders play Wests Tigers in the Toyota Cup (U20/Reserve Grade) GF next and then the big one, Melbourne Storm v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in about 4 hours time.
Newtown Jets have just scored in the corner. 22-18 the final score. Good to see an old foundation club win a Trophy.
* imagine an equivalent London team like a combined West Ham-Crystal Palace-Wimbledon football team; with the last 2 teams being from opposite sides of the river and miles away from the first.

Funnily enough Notch, I thought exactly the same during Friday's match. They have the pack to do it.
Anybody else think Hanrahan looked a natural during his little cameo? Munster - use him or lose him.

Nah MrsP we only played 4 first team members in this match. Had 4 boys score first tries for us, hound; I didn't get one, went off after 60 mins due to my shoulder.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, The Patch
Bore da pawb / good morning all. I had a lush day yesterday: I took the pup up Pen y Fan with my dad and my brother-in-law (my sisters only got about a fifth of the way up, but they're both 'with child' so that was probably sensible). It was windy at the top but sunny and with amazing views in every direction. It could be the last half-warm Saturday we get this year, so kudos to my middle sister for suggesting it. I'll put up a photo in the Facebook Dew Drop.
Notch, it is indeed early days, but the way Ulster are playing, you'd fancy their chances against anyone. Europe? We'll find out soon enough!

I remember you mentioning Tom Rees, CJ - weren't you unsure about asking him to sign a shirt or something?

Well the reason he's come to my med school is because he has been forced to retire from International rugby due to recurrent injury. Hopefully he's up for some coaching here, but he was at one point the next big thing at 7. Shame hid career like so many others was cut short, lucky he's got the motivation to do the grind as a doctor

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, The Patch
Unlucky there prop.
Tom Rees would have nailed down the England 7 shirt but for a long list of shoulder injuries. Wasps were always a much better team with him on the field. Sadly, that was all too infrequent over the last four seasons.
Losing Rees, Worsley, Ward-Smith, Thompson amd Hart to injury retirement last season was the main reason we struggled. The gaps in the pack were plugged by unknown Russians and Namibians and lads from the Academy.
Just nowhere near the same quality.

I actually don't mind Cameron, I think he means well, hes just a bit detached from reality.
Clegg is a spineless piece of pond life.
Labour made a huge mistake selecting Ed as leader, his bro or even Balls would have made much more credible opposition leaders.

Melbourne Storm 14 Canterbury Bulldogs 4.
Cooper Cronk got the Clive Churchill Medal for best on ground.
It's good to have the AFL Flag here, and the NRL Trophy now in Melbourne. Sort of balances things out and no one can complain about not coming up with some silverware.

deposit put down on a golden retriever puppy
Turns out we've bought it off a guy my brawd used to play rugby with, who's uncle used to live across the road from us, so we know it's coming from a good place
Think we're picking her up next Friday.
We did have a name but we keep arguing over it, so think we're going to wait until she's in the house before we really decide
