The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Taihape
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Taihape - The Gumboot Capital of the World!
http://www.taihape.co.nz/
We also welcome our newest member, Amber ...who no doubt will have an interest in those boots!
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Aaron Smith, Topsy Ojo, Jason Shoemark, Tom Rees, Gonzalo Garcia, Leo the Leinster Lion and Lalakai Foketi up on the wall.

I don't like the current Bath shirt, some marketing knobber has seen their way clear to removing the historic hoops and replacing them with some form of blue, black and white vomit riot. What's wrong with hoops?

Evening all,
Not wholly surprised by the Armstrong news but still, it is a bit disappointing.
The Scarlets euro jersey is weird.
As a shirt, it's actually really really nice it's just....it isn't Scarlet.
Tis white with a red trim, if I'm honest it reminds me a lot of Ulster. It's a cracking shirt, just not one that makes me feel all "ooooh yeah Scarlets". If you follow me.

Dreamer, you fountain of all Welsh Rugby knowledge. What are Bridgend like at present and do they present any threat to Ulster Ravens this Sat in the B&I Cup?

as if Rava!
Bridgend from what I can recall haven't had the best start to the season, although they were involved in an absolute humdinger of a match against Ponty where they came from about 25 points down to lead going into the last 10 mins before ultimately losing.
table by yer: http://www.allwalessport.co.uk/rugby-union.aspx?cid=1123
I think they've good backs, not sure about their forwards sorry. Not in my region so don't know too much about them. They're capable of taking a game to anyone though so who knows. What sort of form are Ulster Ravens in?

Ravens haven't played in a few weeks (lost narrowly to Munster the day before Nevin Spence died) They should have a fair few playing who have turned out for Ulster already this season.
Bristol and Cardiff are the other two teams in the group.

That's not a bad group for you to have really. Cardiff suffered a heavy lost first game of the season but have found some form since then, but I would say both them and Bridgend should definitely be beatable. No pushovers but not the best in the prem.

ah just been looking at the groups. Llanelli have got London Scottish in theirs, that should be a cracker.
Leinster have got Ponty! Tough game that one.

Yeah? Fancy a cheeky wager on who finishes higher in the league then? I don't know, you sneak a win at Castle Grim and it's like the second coming... talking of which, how's our young Freddie coming along?

Attwood will be off at the end of the season I reckon, his contract's up and he is at best 3rd choice for a start, he isn't the type to settle for bench.
Swapsies for Burns?
£10 to the winner's charridee it is mate, not arf.
Who you got in "The Other Cup"? Bath have Trumpton's 2nd's away followed by Grace Brothers Invitational XV at home... actually, I really couldn't give a shoite less if I tried mate, forget I asked.
I'm following Ulster this year.

Fair play to you big lad, I thought I traveled to home games, but that takes the biscuit, and a couple of cakes too.
Some of the A games are better than the AP games, everyone trying to prove a point and usually plenty of open field too.
I'm off to me cot bud, see you soon my six-fingered bredder.

'Stoke striker Michael Owen has blamed the growth of diving on the influx of foreign players - but admitted he has also gone to ground unnecessarily.
"It's worse than 10 years ago with the influence of players coming from South America, Spain and Italy," said Owen.
But he admitted he went down to win a penalty during a game against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup finals.'

Bore da pawb. Sleeeepy morning. Was up at 5am with the pup, first time since we've got her she's started to cry and what not before we've gotten up in the morning.
I think by the way she pounced on my toes to eat them, she was clearly fine!
Think I've packed everything for France too. Up to the Diff this evening then fly out tomorrow - can't wait

And the commentators are always the same: their opponents are cheating divers, but when an England player goes down, he's just being 'clever'.

Hi all. Really enjoyed the Wests Awake last night. They had the passion but lacked a pair of half backs and a solid scrum. Fly on the wall documentaries are always great.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Taihape
Well it's cheating, plain and simple. It's against the spirit of the game. I agree with Tony Pulis that they should review cases of diving and issue retrospective yellow cards / fines. Players only do it because they can get away with it. The same goes for swearing themselves hoarse in the referee's face - it the FA genuinely wanted to stop it happening, they could. Yellows for dissent, two yellows, on your way. It would only take a couple of weekends for the message to get through that it won't be tolerated.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Taihape
Yep. I agree totally.
And further to your point that it’s cheating and against the spirit of the game, it’s really depressing too. I mean, tugging someone’s jersey is technically cheating and against the spirit of the game, but diving is something beyond that, it’s embarrassing to watch a man public humiliate himself to gain an advantage over his opponent.

Should be bigger fines and suspensions for that sort of caper. I'd even dock some points (or a point) off the club each time it happens.
That would stop it quick smart.
